Looking for an adventure like no other? Come experience our beautiful spacious light-filled cottage situated on the east shores of majestic Lake Winnipeg. Located within the borders of the only protected UNESCO World Heritage Site within Manitoba, our unique area is known for deep boreal forests and untouched wilderness. The Ojibwe name for this area is Pimachiowin Aki (pim MATCH - o win - a KEH) which means "Land that gives life" and "Living the good life on the Land". It is the perfect name for this place; a place where nature and culture come together and are inseparable. Built in 2013, our lovely getaway has an open-concept living/dining/kitchen area, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, wraparound deck, sunroom, and gorgeous views of the water. Miles from civilization, with just one or two locals to keep you from feeling too isolated, Loon Straits is a hidden gem located on the east shores of Lake Winnipeg, under 3 hours drive north of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The drive up to our cottage is so beautiful that you won’t even mind the distance! Our wraparound deck is the ultimate place to bbq, sip a glass of wine or after-dinner cocktail, watch the sunrise with coffee in hand, observe the wildlife (pelicans, ducks, eagles, beaver, muskrats, foxes, the odd moose or bear- the list goes on!) nap in the hammock, or keep an eye on the kids as they cannonball into the water. The lawn is great for playing lawn sports (bocci ball anyone?), tanning, campfires, or yoga. Our private dock and boat launch are steps from the front door so you can launch your canoe or fishing boat in no time. WATERFRONT: granite rock, accessible for swimming and fishing. The Lilypad at Loon Straits is the perfect place to reconnect with nature, a favorite person, and simple pleasures. Located within the borders of the only Unesco World Heritage site in Manitoba, our tiny waterfront cabin offers world class views of wildlife, the Aurora Borealis, dark skies, and the chance to immerse oneself in the unique culture of our lands. Perfect for a romantic getaway for two, a friend's weekend catchup, or for the solo traveler needing a retreat. Enjoy our stargazing glamping tent, leisurely walks, quiet sunsets, campfires on the rock, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, biking, and sandy beaches. The Lilypad measures 10 x 20 feet, with a large covered deck that is just steps from the water. Although it is tiny, the cabin has everything you need to have a relaxing and fun time! The garden doors open into a beautiful space - with high whitewashed pine ceilings and white shiplap walls. The decor is a mix of scandi and boho styles - with a touch of vintage. The large glass garage door opens to provide panoramic views of the bay. Spend the morning lounging in bed, with the garage door open, and enjoy the breeze drifting in and the wild life floating by. Or curl up in the hammock chairs with a good book and a cool drink and feel the warm summer sun on your skin. Our compact kitchen has stainless steel countertops and a small sink. Our vintage dining table and chairs are just the cutest and just the right size for 2 to 3 people. The living/sleeping area consists of a queen size futon and twin size loft bed (should you need the extra bed). The rustic outdoor toilet and shower are just around the corner of the deck and add to the charm of the property. The Lilypad sits on a large flat granite rock which curves down to the water. The rock is the perfect place for sunbathing, doing a few yoga stretches, and enjoying the campfire, You can throw a line in and spend the afternoon fishing, or take the plunge into the cool waters of Lake Winnipeg. Rent one of our kayaks or canoe and take a paddle out to one of the many tiny islands that dot the bay. So many great things to see and do at The LIlypad at Loon Straits. We allow pets (dogs only) for an additional $20.00 per booking. Please add the Pet Fee listed as an Extra during booking.
