Stone Ridge Tiny House
My girlfriend, small dog and I stayed here for 2 nights. We really enjoyed it ! So glad we found this place. We will absolutely stay here again. We did not hear or see any mice like some people mentioned. The lanterns did not work, so id recommend bringing your own flash lights if you want to venture at night. Stove top works, but the inside oven does not (at least we couldnt get it to) heat sources work excellent. The top loft gets VERY hot fast, so staying warm wasnt a problem. We recomend taking the cutting board and putting it on the table to play board games, to make it a larger flat surface. Each morning we were woken up around 7:30 by the roosters and their morning call, which was super cool! We never experienced that! There was no curtain or wall to toilet, so whoever you stay with make sure your comfortable with that ! We loved how rustic it was, that being said, there was VERY little cell phone service, and only one outlet for usb. we loved the peace and quiet. It was wet and rainy durring our stay, so it was very muddy and luckily we had an suv with 4 wheel drive, otherwise there would have been no way we made it up the hills. I was nervous about the comments on dust and old dog fur since my girlfriend is very allergic, but we had no problems and it really wasnt that bad at all. So much so we will without a doubt be back again to get away from the city!

Stone Ridge Tiny House
My husband and I came for a weekend getaway just to unplug and relax. The Stony Ridge Tiny House was perfect. The loft for sleeping was really warm and comfortable. The propane stove made meals easy, and the handpump for rain water made cleanup easy. There is a solar fridge that kept our perishables cold, and speakers to set the musical mood. Perfect!! We brought our dogs and they enjoyed all of the cuddles and outdoor time. It snowed on our way there - our little city car got stuck going up the hill. Darryl came out, helped us with a push and drove us to the bottom of the hill of the Stony Ridge. Sleds were available to pull our gear up, the house was already stocked with wood for the woodburning stove. We ended up not using it because the heater, even set at 1, kept the place pretty toasty. Darryl was welcoming and kind. Can't wait to go again!! This was our 3 or 4th time to Purple Haze - first time in the Tiny Home - and find it to be the perfect get away!

Stone Ridge Tiny House
Not cared for
Overall the cabin has everything you need is secluded and surrounded by beautiful woods. The sheets are clean and the bed was comfortable. The propane heater and small fridge are nice additions. The water pump works, and our host is helpful and responsive. Now as far as the details go, there was much to be desired. My smallest complaint but the finish work is half completed, with insulation sticking out and things like that. Our biggest issue was the overall cleanliness. It seemed the place needed a deep clean a few years ago. Dishes were sort of greasy which could be because campers don’t heat their dish water, but that’s something that should be taken care of between visits. Cobwebs everywhere, dust dirt and bugs on the windowsills and all the corners. The carpets have not had a vacuum for a very long time. This is a pet friendly place so no cleaning means dog hair everywhere. Mouse droppings and whiffs off some kind of urine by the bed area. We spent half of one of our three days here cleaning dishes, wiping and dusting, and using our small car vacuum to bring it to a point we were comfortable staying at. We even purchased more dish soap and some dish scrubbers as the ones provided were caked in old food and very brown. This to say, the next visitors will probably have a far better experience. It seems the extent of work between visits is changing sheets and bringing in some firewood.

Needs attention
I wanted to love my stay at this tiny house, but the window sills were piled with dirt and littered with dead bugs. Dusty spiderwebs hung everywhere, and the strange choices in what I now know is decoration was off putting. A tray of extremely rusty silverware along with a big rusty butcher knife sat next to the stove. The space held seating for 8. Five wooden chairs and a full size sofa in about 200 square feet made it feel like an abandoned clubhouse. Too much for a place that sleeps three at best. I will say the solar system is good. We could recharge our phones and a laptop and still have lighting for all we needed at night, and the sun goes down about 4:30 pm that time of year. Water was there, but it has to be filtered after you pump it from the system. We weren't prepared for that so you might want to bring some water to get you started. Fridge works best if you fill it up. Then there were the mice in the ceiling and walls that moved and chewed for hours at night. You can't see them. They are behind thick wood walls, but you can certainly hear them. I did like the feel of a treehouse I got when up in the loft. The windows are really cool. Heat was no problem. The woodstove was actually too much so used the propane and it worked perfectly. We didn't try to cook so can't speak to the burners. I did communicate with the host after we left. He basically said, "it's a house in the woods".

Very nice and cozy cabin! My only complaint is it felt like it hadn’t been cared for in awhile, dusty, overgrown, missing basic amenities. But otherwise a wonderful and secluded cabin. Ps: door doesn’t have lock

Site 1 Fallen Tower
What a wonderful hipcamp option. I stayed at Fallen Tower which had everything you could ask for. Parked my car right there, water spigot in the site, firewood for sale a close walk away. Beautiful, scenic site on an expansive property. Such a great camping option and beats the hell out of staying in a campground. Only negative is the rooster in the morning!

Good vibes for all
This was our first Hipcamp and first time at Purplehaze and we loved it! We stayed at Fallen Tower and it was 👌🏼for us (4 adults, 1 kiddo and a pupper). It felt spacious, special and more secluded than a state park site. We enjoyed the quick trip to the privy and appreciated the poison ivy reminder! Thanks for having such a special place we can come to to connect with nature, each other and ourselves!

Site 4 Firefly Camp
I went tent camping at Purple Haze Acres with some friends for a getaway weekend from Chicago. The site was very clean and kept up. A friend brought his dog -- the field in front of the campsite was the perfect spot for him to play while we made our meals over the campfire. All in all, I highly recommend this spot!

Wonderful retreat in the woods
The cabin was great and better equipped than we expected. It was a welcome surprise to have electrical outlets inside, enough hardwired lighting not to need flashlights, and a comfortable bed in the loft. My wife and I love being outdoors, but don’t always feel like packing out all the gear to do tent camping for a quick weekend getaway. This was the perfect compromise of getting some time outdoors and still having some creature comforts.

Perfect getaway from the City!
Being from Chicago, we enjoyed our quiet and relaxing weekend at the Stone Ridge Tiny House! We also brought our dog, which worked out great. The house provided really everything we needed. We were happy we brought extra jugs of drinking water though. We visited October, which was the perfect weather. The house might have been hard to keep cool in the summer!

The site was very private, quiet with beautiful views. It is small though - so only one tent would fit - maybe two small ones. I was solo with my dog so it was perfect. There was an inexpensive & excellent wood source on site. So close to amazing hikes - really enjoyed my stay.

Site 3 Twisted Elm
Beautiful area - so peaceful, and the area is well-cared for. Stayed at twisted elm site, adjacent to a large field which was perfect for a picnic, relaxing in the sunshine, and stargazing. It's peaceful and quiet, but keep in mind there's a path to other sites close by so it's not totally private. We had a great time - will definitely come back and try a more secluded site.

Site 2 Casey's Camp
Birthday Camping Weekend
Darryl was very friendly and welcoming during our trip to his gorgeous campsites! He was always available by message but also let us have our space/privacy. We had a group of 8 people and 1 dog split between 3 different campsites- Firefly, Twisted Elm, and Casey's Camp. All 3 spots feel secluded, while Firefly and Twisted Elm are very convenient yet on quite a slant, and Casey's is a big wonderful campsite, but is a trek up a steep hill. With that combination of spots, everyone found the perfect site for their needs! When we were worried about rain, and being the only campers he had for the weekend, Darryl was nice enough to offer us the big group spot, Peace Camp, that also had a cooking/sitting shelter. Luckily we had plenty of canopies and the trees helped quite a bit so we didn't have to move, but really appreciated the offer! One thing to note is you have to follow the driving directions EXACTLY, especially if you are getting in after dark. The driveway in is long, but listen to him when he says "DO NOT TURN!" Overall, we loved it and will be back, hopefully with nicer weather!

This tiny house is so cute and cozy. Loved walking through the grounds and waking up to the sight of a good sun beaming down on wildflowers and rolled hay bales. It’s a great weekend getaway to simply relax or enjoy nearby Ice Age Trail hiking (20 min drive). (Side note: If you’re coming from Chicago, stop by Blue’s Egg in Milwaukee on the way home!)

Site 5 Darby's Camp
Easy and relaxing stay
Purplehaze Acres was such a treat! We stayed at Darby’s camp (site 5). In transparency, if you have a lot of gear, you may want to choose Fallen Tower or Firefly as your site. The hill was a *leeeetle* arduous for the amount of up and down. But overall, not the worst thing ever. Also, Site 5 is on a slope. Other camps near us were dispersed well and with the amount of trees, we felt it was quiet. Everyone in our area was super respectful of each other and we felt like we had a lot of solitude. We explored the land and walked a bit and really enjoyed the rustic feel of the space. We definitely would come back with more people at one of the larger (and maybe flatter) sites. :) We had a great experience here!

Cute, rustic cabin for a getaway
Very cute cabin! It was rustic and homey, with the most eclectic assortment of decorations. The loft bed was comfy and cozy and perfect to snuggle up in for the evening. I loved using the stove - you have to light a match to start the stove, quite the novelty. Like other reviews have said, when you’re packing pack like you’re going camping. Bring your own cooler with ice (the fridge worked okay, good enough for drinks, maybe not quite good enough for dairy products), bring your own water, bring something to keep your dry food in so it doesn’t attract critters (def something I regretted not bringing!), power source, garbage bags, etc. Everybody was very friendly and the cabin was so cute!

Overall a good experience! Some pros and cons for us though- Pros - the site is a stunner. Lots of room, sun and shade areas, beautiful trees, gorgeous views of the field - well appointed, with a private water spigot, solid camping table, fire area with grate and charcoal grill - Darryl was very responsive by text and welcoming when we arrived - easy to purchase high quality wood Cons - outhouse was short on supplies-we needed to dash out for extra TP - there’s a rooster close to the site that is really loud at sunrise. We were traveling with kids, and once they’re up, they’re up!
