Retreat to relax at Chuckanut Hills Farm and Campground, a 20-acre energy-regenerative, off-grid family farm nestled at the foot of Anderson Mountain and surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. 30 minutes south of Bellingham in the Chuckanut Mountains, the only finger of the Cascade Mountain Range that reaches all the way to the Salish Sea. This wooded forest is part of the Puget Lowland Forest Eco-Region. These hills were the native home of the Saquantch people, a Salish coast tribe that fished and hunted the mountains surrounding Lake Whatcom. They lived in long lodge homes and were later pushed out by the invading Lummi Tribe. The Lummi Tribe was later pushed out by Western logging companies, and the entire mountainous region was heavily logged for a number of years. Where our farm now rests was once the second of many logging camps built by Ed English, and he cut our gravel farm road in 1900; a railroad ran through the lower part of our property, taking logs from Lake Whatcom down to the little boom town of Seattle. Our intention while being caretakers of this ancestral land is to restore native plants, raise heirloom produce and heritage animals, and provide a restful nature paradise for people looking to spend time in the outdoors.

RV/tent site · Sleeps 6 · Vehicles under 35 ft
A relaxing, restorative paradise! Find your peace here with campfires, sauna, and forest immersion on an organic biodynamic farm. //This listing is for our single RV and Tent Sites. To book our luxury glamping tent or the entire campground for large groups, weddings and corporate/health retreats, see our other listings.// Retreat to relax at Chuckanut Hills Farm, a 20-acre energy-regenerative, off-grid family farm nestled at the foot of Anderson Mountain and surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. //Please read the whole listing before booking to see if this campground is right for you.// Chuckanut Hills Farm is 30 minutes south of Bellingham in the Chuckanut Mountains, the only finger of the Cascade Mountain Range that reaches all the way to the Salish Sea. For drivers on I-5, we are just 5.8 miles off the Alger Exit (# 240). We are conveniently located between Bellingham and Seattle, one hour north of Seattle and one hour south of the Canadian border. //ALERT// The farm is inhabited by animals including but not limited to poultry, dogs, cats and sheep and diverse wildlife. We take EVERY reasonable precaution with animals to ensure no damage occurs to you, your vehicle or your possessions. By proceeding with this booking, you agree that neither we the hosts nor HipCamp will be liable for damage incurred by wild or domesticated animals to any attendees or their possessions. Guests are required to follow farm rules as indicated in this listing, for their own safety. //Sauna// Our custom-built wood-fired sauna is one of the best features of the farm. Sauna sessions can be purchased in Extras. Sauna times MUST BE requested at time of booking or a minimum of 24 hours ahead. We cannot guarantee there will be any sauna time available if you delay. A tiny cabin hosts the sauna, shower, flushing toilet and a spacious deck. Restroom in sauna building is open to all campers 24/7; your sauna session is private, but you will see other campers come and go from the restroom in the same building. //Farm// This is a working, year-round family farm. Tractors, mowers, chainsaws and livestock may all be seen or heard working. We do not raise our rates in the summer; we want fair camping accessibility for all. Depending on the season you arrive, you may see trees down and being split for firewood, mud in the fields, a skidsteer cleaning up forest debris, or picturesque lambs bouncing through clover fields. We do not discount bookings due to farm work. //Animals// We have both fenced and free-range livestock on the property. Guests may NOT open animal pens. Bobcats, bear, deer, coyotes and mountain lions live in the forest. Please keep food in sealed containers and coolers for your own safety. Our livestock guardian dogs will patrol and bark throughout the night. This is their job, warning away predators from the property. Part of our environmentally conscious, low-impact approach to farming includes not having to kill predators, and barking is an excellent safeguard. We do not refund due to dogs barking. They are well socialized, and MAY BE extremely nosy (it's their job). Our farm is home to many poultry, INCLUDING roosters. Roosters begin to crow just before sunrise - if guests are sensitive to noise, earplugs are recommended. //Gravel Road// Our 104-year-old gravel road has potholes, especially during the winter. It is smoothed out in late spring after heavy rains end. //Pets// If you are bringing your pets, there are strict requirements. Since this is a working farm with quarantine and APA regulations, pets must remain on a leash or extended lead at all times. NO exceptions. Pets are welcome in the campground area but are NOT invited up the hill into the farm area due to strict poultry cross-contamination regulations. See Extras to book your pet for free. //Sites// Our sites are currently not numbered and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. All sites have proven equal favorites among campers. If you are a return camper and request a specific site, we do our best to accommodate you and can reserve your site if it is available. Each site is equally spacious, has an 8-foot no-tip picnic table, and a fire pit. One site has a level concrete pad. You may be able to see other campers from your site, but you will not be close to them. //Restrooms// Our sauna cabin/restroom is a 200 yard walk uphill from the campsite area. You will walk up the gravel road past our farmhouse, and along a grassy track to the small cabin on the hill. Seasonally, we have a porta-potty available in the campground area. //Power and Utilities// The farm is completely off the grid. There are no utility hookups for several miles from our farm. You may hear our property generator fire up to add power to the farm’s solar-powered battery banks. We work hard to plan this for non-invasive times. We do not provide power, sewage or water hookups. RVs must rely on personal generator/propane power. Potable water spigots are available for campers to use. **RV GENERATOR QUIET TIME IS 10PM to 7AM** ☑ Boxes of colorful and fresh heritage eggs are available for purchase by the half and whole dozen (seasonal availability). ☑ Pets are welcome and MUST be booked for free via Extras. ☑ Sauna passes are available for purchase year-round. Upon arrival sauna users will be asked to fill out a liability release form. ☑ Firewood is included. You will need to bring your own hatchet for splitting kindling. ☑ Organic herbs bouquets can be harvested for FREE! (Seasonal availability) ☑ After booking, additional extras may be purchased on-site with cash, Venmo, PayPal, or CashApp. //The Area// The forest is crisscrossed by miles of obscure and little-known hiking and biking trails. Our farm is 20 acres surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. ☑ Walk outside on a cloudless night and drink in the breathtaking sweep of the Milky Way, a misty belt flung across the pitch-black night sky. Planets and constellations revolve in majestic clarity. ☑ Ornithology is alive and well out here, bring your birding notebook! ☑ Lake Whatcom is a twenty-minute drive away. Reed Lake and Cain Lake are a fifteen-minute drive away or a two-mile hike down the gravel road. ☑ We are in the vicinity of some of the best mountain biking trails in the United States, and just 13 miles (28-minute drive) from famous Galbraith Mountain biking. We are 8.9 miles (24-minute drive) from the Blanchard Mountain Trailhead, where geology enthusiasts can view the famous mineral stilpnomelane outcropping uncovered by a construction crew several decades ago. ☑ Oyster Dome, Lily Lake, Whatcom Falls, Chuckanut Drive, Chuckanut Mtn Park and Samish Bay are other breath-taking trips near the farm. A connection point to the Pacific Northwest Trail is just 1.9 miles away through the forest and down our gravel road. We are in Zone 7 (Cascade Range). ☑ Quartz and agate litter the logging trails around the farm, and the area is known for our rare and unique leaf fossils.

Off-Grid Gathering/Wedding Venue

100%
(12)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 50 · Vehicles under 35 ft
Gather up to 50 people for a wedding, health retreat or family reunion at this private, off-the-grid and pet-friendly venue. No noise restrictions, no curfew! If your group is slightly over 50, please contact us. This working family homestead is home to farm animals, roosters (that crow), roaming (unfenced), sociable livestock guardian dogs, and barn cats. Booking confirms you are aware of the presence of these animals. Event planners are required to carry insurance for their individual event. Check your homeowners insurance as this can usually be added over the phone for your chosen dates. Our farmhouse is situated in the center of the property; we will be on hand for any questions. Venue can park up to 25 cars. Two spacious camping fields accommodate your RVs, tent campers, canopies, party tents, camper trailers, truck-top campers, hammocks, and more. Guests can spread out and nestle back into cozy nooks in the woods or stay close to the main action. 3 fire pits dot the camping area. A large concrete pad centered in the shade for your cooking set-up has an additional large fire pit adjacent to it. 1 port-o-potty is provided adjacent to the camping area; booking a 2nd port-o-potty is the responsibility of the booking guest and is a requirement for booking the venue. We recommend Honeybucket as they are familiar with servicing our property; they also provide ADA units and hand-washing stations (unit provided by campground is not ADA). On-site sauna cabin is a 50-yard walk up a steep hill from the camping area. Includes a hot/cold shower (no in between, it really is hot or cold! Life off grid is rough), flushing toilet, hand-washing sink, and mini-fridge. For sauna usage, see //Extras//; one sauna session per day is provided at no additional cost. There is no electricity. We suggest bringing a portable generator for your power needs. Water and potable water access are provided. A grassy, shaded field backed by our scenic beaver pond is the space chosen by many brides for their ceremony; lights high in the trees provide ambience for evening activities. We have hosted weddings, bachelor/bachelorette, family camp-outs, reunions, corporate retreats, health retreats, yoga trainings, girl's weekends, birthday parties, church camp-outs and more!
