We tent camped in this location and had a wonderful experience. It was private, but not completely isolated and close to town and other main roads. Nice tent pad area and fire pit.

Grand Marais Camping Get-A-Way
100 foot driveway serves as the campsite. On a quiet road to walk. We headed wesr on the road each day. A Superior Hiking trailhead with a parking lot is down the road to the east, just one mile away. Eady drive to get to Grand Marais for socialnoutings abd stores. The campsite fire ring is field stone, and it sets downslope from the end of the driveway. I would gave liked the firepit area improved by leveling the ground with 4 inches if gravel, circling the pit by 4 feet. I would also remove a 12 feet long pile of lumber and other building material, that is covered by old tarps. Finally, I would replace the plastic picnic table with a wooden one. The plastic one isn't sturdy. We put wood boards under the table legs.

The site was private so it was peaceful and allowed for the dogs to be off leash. Easily accessible to town as well as the SHT too! We had a schoolie so had the benefit of the niceties that allows which helped offset not having any of that if tent camping only. We did also pitch one tent in the tent pad area which was flat and level. Overall a great site that I’d rent again!

We enjoyed the location and privacy of this site, and it was great proximity from down town and nearby hiking trails. The firepit was on uneven ground, and we weren't able to get a camp chair near it. We enjoyed the quietness and seclusion of the site. Would recommend anyone with campers to bring leveling blocks as the ground is uneven (we brought some and it worked good), and every one to bring a lot of bugspray as the deep north woods are riddled with insects.
Overall, I think this site is appropriately priced priced for what you get.

My husband and I had never gone to Grand Marais before and luckily we were able to find this awesome site. We brought our camper and it was the perfect sized space for what we needed. We spent a lot of time exploring different parks and the town but it was a great spot for us to unwind and relax in the privacy of the woods. We are both very pleased with our experience and would definitely use this spot again if we find ourselves headed north. Thank you so much!

I mostly love places that are dog friendly. At night , all you could hear was the wind blowing through the trees which was really nice. The spot was quick easy access if you decided to go into town after a long day of hiking for a bit or a few last minute check out. If available I will totally go again.

Nice secluded spot very close to Grand Marais. It’s basically a driveway in the woods. Very quiet though and not even very many cars driving by on the road coming in. As other reviews have stated, there is a pile of construction materials covered by a big tarp right in the middle of the site but if you are just looking for a quiet and private site this is a good one. We were on other adventures so didn’t really explore any of the acreage but there is a nice little fire pit and there was even firewood there to use. Host was very responsive.

Nice piece of land, but the eyesores as the other reviews say include the tarp with materials on entrance and the two shacks. I understand that it is the rule to leave the area cleaner than you found it, however, when we arrived there were dog poop bags, empty capri sun pouches and trash. We’ll gladly pick up trash, but also didn’t feel great paying for a dirty spot where we also had to be janitors. The area isn’t as secluded as we had anticipated, big road and house next to property.

We found the place easily; off the beaten path and still fairly close to Grand Marais and less than 20 minutes to Devils Kettle trail head.
The site was clean and felt private with plenty of room for our 16 for travel trailer.
Would gladly stay again!

It was a perfect solution for us since we needed a place to camp and all the surrounding State Parks and campgrounds were full. The pile of construction material under a tarp sort of distracted from the otherwise beautiful spot. Besides that, we LOVED being so close to the Superior Lake Hiking Trail and just a hop and a skip from Grand Marais.

I was looking for a quiet primitive campsite on the upper end of the North Shore. The site is about 2.5 miles to Highway 61, 6.5 miles to Grand Marais, 40 miles from Grand Portage State Park and 2 miles from the Gunflint Trail so the location was perfect for the area I wanted to explore.
Occasionally a vehicle would drive by on the road but other than that the site was quiet and all I could hear were the sounds of nature.
Water is available for purchase at stores in Grand Marais. I filled my 5 gallon water jug at the Cook County Coop for $0.39 per gallon when I bought my groceries but there are 2 other grocery stores in Grand Marais. There is also a YMCA in Grand Marais that you can purchase a day pass if you want to take a shower.
I would definitely camp here again if I go back to the area.

Ashley was great, responded quickly, and was very helpful finding the site. The site is okay, but not really a camp site. It's a large, unpaved driveway in a densely wooded area about 100 yards off the main road. If you just need a place for your camper or tent overnights as you explore Grand Marais and the North Shore it's a good spot but definitely bring the mosquitoe spray! 😁
