It's a charming relaxing place. A lot of care has gone into it both from a comfort standpoint (super comfy bed with heating pads), and an aesthetic one (the artistic touches are a kick. Bill is a kind and accommodating host who made us feel welcome. Plus the hot tub didn't hurt either.
This place is perfect for a quick getaway from it all.

Bills place is fabulous! We loved the hot tub, the heated bed, and the rural location. Bill brought us coffee and biscuits every morning. Delicious. Petaluma is a gem.
Just a note: the bedroom and bathroom are in separate buildings, connected by a deck. This works well unless it's raining.

Magical getaway
Our stay here was fantastic! Such a wonderful, peaceful getaway. The pictures don’t do the place justice. It’s a magical little retreat and Bill and his wife were so lovely and very accommodating. I’ll definitely be back.

Relaxing getaway
My partner and I enjoyed our weekend at Bill's. The hot tub was so relaxing and we slept so well each night. The proximity to downtown was very convenient.

Unique Stay
This is a unique stay in an Indonesian teakwood single room structure surrounded by farmland with cows grazing nearby and mourning doves calling in the morning. The bed was cozy with linen sheets and electric bed warmer. The bathroom is across the private deck and includes a shower, sink and bath tub. The private deck include a hot tub which was welcome after a day of driving. Yummy coffee was delivered in the morning - much appreciated as we continued our trip. Friendly hosts.

Wonderful retreat or waypoint
Our second stay with Bill. Always a peaceful and beautiful place. Addition of a hot tub is a nice touch, but no trouble staying warm on cool nights thanks to the heated blanket. Really, a step above glamping, and Petaluma is always charming.

I had a lovely time staying at the Swallowtail Historic Art Studios! Great host, lovely location and so much to look at. The space is a bit like a small art museum, full to the brim with charming details and craftsmanship. The bed is extremely comfortable and the hot tub is a delight.

Very nice quick getaway from San Francisco. Feels like you’re out in the country but very close to town. Bill was a great host and showed us around the property when we got there. He offers coffee and tea if you’d like it. Hot tub under the stars was dreamy and looking at the tree houses on his property was unreal! Lots of cute cows in the area and very close to the coast should you want to head towards point Reyes etc. Very clean and very charming.

Exceeded all expectations
We had Swallowtail booked for a weekend in 2020 that turned out to be the first weekend of official Covid lockdown. We were able to book the same weekend for 2021 and finally got to stay. We didn’t have to go far from home to find a unique and exceptional spot that is exactly what Hipcamp is all about.
First off, Bill was a great, gracious host. The tour was wonderful and the privacy afforded was perfect. We had coffee brought every morning as an added bonus.
The space is perfect and exactly as described. Small, rustic teak cabin with all the charm you can throw at it. The hot tub opened to the field and was perfect for 2. The bathroom/parlor was filled with art and trinkets and more than you could take in over 2 days. And the art around. The stained glass was some of the most perfect stained glass. The heart of lights in the field... the lit stained glass hobbit hole... my descriptions won’t do it all justice so I won’t try.

Gorgeous
Amazing property. Amazing people! Bike riding right down the rode (Helen Putnam park) and the studio is so close to town but has the middle of nowhere feel! Would definitely like to come visit again!

Smelled like mold. Got a horrible headache as a result. Mosquitoes in the room. Dusty. I would not recommend this place. Owner said that it’s not moldy because it hasn’t rained in an month but also admitted to the roof caving in at one point and water streaming through. Would not refund my money or even give me a discount. Did not end up staying there. Left after two hours. Would not recommend.

We had a really lovely stay! The space was comfortable and adorable. There was some road noise from the nearby country road, so just be mindful of that. The hosts left nice touches, like fresh flowers next to the bath and bed, very sweet.

A peaceful and lovely stay
A lovely stay. The bed is very cozy and the mattress warmer helps on a chilly night. We enjoyed the artistic flourishes everywhere, the warm hospitality, and just about everything else at this lovely spot. For being close to town it feels remote and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. Would definitely go back.

We really enjoyed our stay! Beautiful teak Indonesian cottage with the most comfortable ca king bed and mattress warmer, even though it was a cold night we stayed nice and cozy. It felt very private, even out on the deck in the jacuzzi. Lovely bathroom and I really liked all the art and little touches here and there. Very unique and beautiful location!

This was a very special stay. The hand-carved wood cottage is as unusual as it is beautiful. We loved the big comfy bed and its heated blanket that helped us stay warm on chilly nights. The deck with hot tub overlooks farms so it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, even though we were only a 10 minute drive from Petaluma.
