Mendocino Magic is one of Hipcamp's first private land properties! Be a trailblazer, and stay at this unique 600-acre space nestled an hour inland from the Mendocino Coast. Enjoy rolling hills, ponds, forests and hiking, and an amazing reservoir for swimming! Once a logging camp, then a commercial fishing facility, Mendocino Magic is now a restored natural environment for a boutique camping destination and private outdoor event destination. Mackenzie manages the campground with a team of incredible people. In a world increasingly connected in the digital sense, we invite you to come up and get back to your roots, and connect with people the old fashioned way. *COVID19 UPDATE* Mendocino Magic campground is open and operating under county and state requirements to ensure a safe campout during these needed times to get outside. Mendocino County has lifted the mandate on masks, so the campground is not requiring masks. The campground does not require proof of vaccination for camping or indoor cabin reservations but requests guests to please test after congregating in groups and to let hosts know about any positive results right away in an attempt to track and protect our community. Please respect the space of other guests on site during your stay as not all guests reflect the same views about masking and distancing.

Cannonball Camp
We were happy to have a site right on the reservoir. There were not many people when we went, so we were able to borrow all the kayaks and paddle around until the clouds rolled in. The camping area is dusty dirt, so bring a tarp if you have one. There was a jug of water provided, which was so thoughtful. Not far to the porta pottie. We were able to transport our stuff up to the campsite and bring it back, which was really great not to carry everything in. I wish we’d come on a hotter weekend so we could actually cannonball. The dock off the campsite was nice to stand on and peek at the fish. Mackenzie and her partner were helpful and checked in to make sure we were okay. We will definitely go back.

The Jennifer Cottage
We had a lovely time at the cottage. The pond it overlooks is a little boggy, but what do expect in a dry area, right? It’s a nice walk to the reservoir. And there are fairy lights that lead the way if you want to go at night. It feels secluded, while still being close if we wanted to head down to the common area. Mackenzie and her partner were very friendly. Someone complained about cobwebs. Not sure why you would expect no insects in the woods. It’s a cottage, not a luxury rental. We found it to be perfect for our needs.

SO MANY STARS. Just go camp!
So serene. Camp staff stopped on their rounds twice to see if I was good or needed anything. Twinkle lights in the trees were a bonus I didn't expect. Nice quiet night watching the stars. The outdoor shower on my way out have me just the invigorating start I needed to my day off driving.
