Sunset Knoll Sites on Big Bar Lake

Stayed at the knoll, the view was amazing, access to lake right off the site ~ was acres of paradise for our dog to enjoy. Very private & exclusive we are thinking to rent the entire place for gamily gatherings now that we’ve been. Easy to find, but no cell service after turning from hwy. Host emailed everything that we needed to know & more well in advance of arrival.. we communicated remotely & she is lovely lady. Only reason not giving 5 ⭐️ is an issue with people’s occupying our site on arrival & it was after 7:30pm before we could set-up- so tired & frustrated. No fault from the host, if she had opportunity to deal with (unfortunately no service). Once we could reach out to share, she was very attentive, personable & reassuring of the steps she would be taking * wasn’t letting the incident go without being dealt with 👌 Would recommend to everyone.. as long as you don’t take my spot 😉🏕️

Overall we had a wonderful experience sites are set on a beautiful lake and have decent privacy. Very well kept, tidy sites. Price felt on a higher side considering there was no drinkable water and toilet paper.

One of the best we've stayed at!

Amazing site! Hosts were fast to respond to questions, property is well set up for campers. It's great to have so much space between everyone. Our site itself had amazing views, the wooden platform as nice to have for shade and relaxing. Not that it's fault of the host or property, it was very windy being exposed to the lake and we were a little unprepared for this. We made it work! Then the evening, the wind calmed right down and had epic sunset views.

Amazing property. The outhouse closest to our site was bolted shut, but the dual outhouse was just a 5min walk away. We did not use the kayaks as we brought our little boat and docked it on the smaller dock. Our dogs loved the freedom and we used their pen when our neighbours moved in, as they also had a dog. It was super windy for 2 days so we had to move our truck to block the wind, and had to drag the boat up on land for remainder of trip. I def recc people bring tarps/bungees and maybe an EZ up with walls and pegs to nail in (the wind was very forceful). We couldn’t start our camp stove, due to the wind and all the furniture blew off the patio. It was an adventure! We loved it. The fishing was amazing and to watch the trout fly out of the water each night from our chairs was pretty rad. We will be back for sure.

Lovely private site with a Lakeview, the Woods site that we stayed on wasn't waterfront, as stated in the description but 1 minute walk (not even really) from the water. Nice and private. While we could hear other campers in the distance it felt nice and secluded. Also a beautiful sunset after a brief summer rainstorm. Lovely place. Would love to return.

Favorite getaway in the BC interior

Sunset Knoll has become our favorite place to escape the demands of everyday life and truly unwind. The views are absolutely spectacular, and waking up to that scenery each day never gets old. One of the things we love most is the incredible fishing. Some of the best fly-fishing spots on Big Bar are just a stone’s throw from the property, and it's not uncommon for us to catch and release dozens of beautiful 2–3 lb rainbow trout throughout the day. A special thank you to Katie and Melissa for creating such a perfect getaway. Their attention to detail, hospitality, and care for the property make every visit memorable. We have been enjoying Sunset Knoll for the past three years, and it has become a place filled with great memories for our family. We look forward to returning year after year and hope to continue visiting for many years to come. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat with stunning views, outstanding fishing, and wonderful hosts, Sunset Knoll is hard to beat.

Location is pretty remote and very quiet, exactly what we were looking for. The lake is beautiful and I am sure on a warmer day its great to take a dip in. The site itself was perfect to set up the roof top tent and admire the lake views and the sunset in the evening. Outhouse was cute and clean.

Great quiet spot! Lovely listening to all of the birds. We just came up for the 1 night from North Vancouver, directions were clear, drive was stunning, location is calm, quiet and spacious. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay- picnic tables and clean (and quirky) outhouse come visitors book! Haha thanks for having us!!

Amazing location and beautiful views! I really loved the covered area since I was tenting it provided great shade during the heat wave. Coming from out of province it was a bonus they offer firewood! Due to the heat wave didn't need alot but the crate was enough for a little fire each night I was there. Hosts were very help! Had a minor issue with a neighbour and their dog being loose and roaming my site. Where my dog is reactive I wanted to avoid any issues and she responded immediately and contact the neighbours which I was very greatful for!

I love the place , my family enjoyed our stay for 2 nights. The site was very spacious for a big family. Ms. Katie was very accommodating and response quickly to my inquiries. The only thing disappoints us was our fellow campers near the lake, they were not respectful about quiet time they were shouting and singing loud with their loud music until 2am for 2nights. They even had bonfire even if there is a FIRE-BAN during the 2nd night. But over all we enjoyed our stay and will come back again.

This place was amazing! When I first arrived, I had the whole area to myself — I spent the afternoon reading at the end of the dock and playing fetch with my dog. As I was cooking dinner, a few other groups arrived. We were all spread out with plenty of privacy, but it was also nice to chat with a few fellow campers. The site was spotless, and the outhouses we’re clean and well ventilated. I really enjoyed disconnecting and being offline, but just a heads-up: there’s virtually no cell service on-site, so make sure you’re prepared for that. All in all, a peaceful and memorable stay. Highly recommend!

Our family had a great stay at Katie and Melissa's place. We stayed in the Woods site which is nice and spacious for our two tents. The running water was a bonus. The lake is absolutely blissful. The kids had so much fun on the paddle boat and kayaks. Despite being full, there was no issue with space to hang out down at the water. We'd love to come again!

We loved Katie’s campground. It was so serene and beautiful! The lake was swimmable, the bugs were minimal and the water toys were so fun to get to utilize! Everything was clean and well marked! Katie’s communication sealed the deal as she was kind and so helpful when I made errors in booking etc! We would love to make it a yearly trip!

The Woods site

Beautiful spot with views of the lake. Easy to get to. Lots of space. Outhouse was nice and stocked with toilet paper. Took the canoe out on the lake. It was a good time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Make sure to bring bug spray and or thermacells there were lots of mosquitoes and horse flies. Luckily we were prepared, so they didn’t bother us too much. I will definitely be coming back. Thanks!

We enjoyed “the lookout”. Planning to book “the knoll” next time, so our dog can stay in the water as long as she wants! Sites were quite private, washing water supply was handy, directions were easy. Overall would book again. Thanks Katie and Melissa!

Heaven on earth!!!

Unbelievably beautiful spot! This place is an absolute gem!!! The site is overlooking Big Bar Lake with georgous turquoise blue water perfect for paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming etc. The campsites were clean, spacious and very private. Hosts Katie and Melissa were super chill (thank you both!) I totally recommend this place, I'll be visiting again for sure 😊

Awesome Sunset Knoll

I don't know if my words could do justice to Katie's place (The Sunset Knoll), we enjoyed the whole week we stayed there (We wanted to extend it but was already taken..), any kind of weather in front of the lake and that awesome deck just above it was magical, Katie was extremely kind with us and answered all of our requests very fast, we're definitely going back this year and will be on our top 5 list from now on. I had no real issues, there were just one other group on the property they were loud till 1 am on our second night but I can’t blame Katie for their behaviour. Absolutely loved my stay at this Hipcamp! The site was clean, the directions were super clear, and the host was incredibly kind and responsive—honestly one of the best hosts I’ve had through the app. The facilities were extremely well maintained, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The space was pet-friendly, which was a huge plus, and I really appreciated the cozy string lights on the deck—they added such a nice touch in the evenings. The highlight was definitely the canoe; being out on the lake with those stunning views was truly breathtaking. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a peaceful and memorable getaway!

We loved staying at the sunset knoll! It was hard to tell from the pictures but (in my opinion) this is by far the best site! You’re the closest to the water and sit directly above it with an awesome view / shelter (which was awesome in the rain). Theres also a direct path down to the water directly from your site. I wasn’t sure how the communal docks would go on a long weekend sharing them but couldn’t have been smoother! Everyone was respectful and it felt like everyone had a good amount of time each on the docks. Disclaimer for folks with dogs that may be reactive to other dogs this might not be the best set up for you. There was a red retriever that roamed around (who my dogs loved playing with!) but just a callout for others who may need more space for their dog :) we had an awesome stay and def hope to be back!
