We had a wonderful experience at this campground! The location was easy to find, and check-in was a breeze. Our hosts were warm, welcoming, and went out of their way to make us feel at home. The grounds were peaceful and relaxing, with a family- and pet-friendly atmosphere that made our stay even more enjoyable. The facilities were spotless and well-maintained, and the tent camping areas were spacious and comfortable. We were especially impressed by the full-service sites—they exceeded expectations! The concession was also remarkably well-stocked, making it easy to grab anything we needed without leaving the campground. All in all, this campground struck the perfect balance of comfort, convenience, and tranquility. We’re already looking forward to returning for a longer stay!

Really a mixed bag of reviews for this place. Location is decent. Could be a little closer to Nanaimo. If you are looking for a quiet peaceful place to rest…..this is not it. Lots of partying and kids riding bikes screaming way past the posted quiet hours. My tent spot was nice and it had some elbow room. My biggest gripe was having to pay for the shower. Worst part, you only get 5 minutes for your initial payment and it takes 2 minutes for the water to get hot.

We camped at the Mountainaire Campground as part of our trip to Nanaimo for the Nanaimo Blues Festival. The 15 minute drive into downtown was easy. The campground had all the hookups and services we needed. Its a big campground with lots of campers on the weekend. What a great place for families to get together as it includes a 15 minute walk to the river and a beautiful calm swimming hole.

I was surprised to see a full campground on Hipcamp, but glad to discover it. Very friendly staff made it a pleasant experience. Very fresh air, tall trees, and the super clear water of the nearby Nanaimo River were great. From the campsite, it is a 15 minute walk to the river (~ 1.5km). There is a short cut down / up a very steep hill for the adventurous. The campground is older but well maintained. Cell service is limited (Telus) but strong enough for a call; campground wifi was surprisingly good (wouldn’t reply on it for a video call but ok for email and browsing).

We started off in #43 which is far from the playground but close to the aggregate company situated next to the camp ground and therefore a lot of truck noise. We have a VW van so no need for water or electricity. We asked to move to #33 which is close to the playground but still fairly private with good shade and grassy camping. The camp management was very accommodating and were happy to let us move. The site was good if you don’t mind lots of yelling kids until 11pm or so, depending on the families who camp, of course. I enjoy the liveliness but many wouldn’t, so those with kids would find this site and camp ground great! Amenities like the showers and laundry facilities were decent. Surprising that 4 toilets and 3 pay showers accommodated all the women at the camp ground but I’m guessing that all the big RV’s and full time guests must have their own bathroom facilities so there was never a line up. We weren’t there over a weekend though. The river and swim hole are a short walk away and lovely although rocky. Overall it was a lovely and relaxing stay for my husband and I.

Camping at Mountainaire Campground

We reserved two nights and had to move from the first night to the second. This was not a huge issue. We connected up to electrical power and had water available as well but no sewer at our two sites. They do have a sani dump station but we didn't have time this morning to make use of it because of an early ferry reservation. It is a very pleasant park with tons of children having the time of their lives. It brought back pleasant memories of my childhood camping years. You don't have privacy as the sites are very closely located. But quiet hours were honoured. It has a short path to a great spot on the Nanaimo River (Creek) which seemed great for the children. Washrooms were clean and oudor free. Campers and staff were pleasant. It seems like this is the family campground you keep coming back to. They have a little store on site and are 16 kms to the Duke Point ferry to Tsawwassen. It is about a 45 minute drive to Qualicum Beach and 30ish to Parksville and even closer to Nanaimo. Tons of places for vacation days ice creams. I recommend this campground without reservation. But you need to love children and the sounds of laughter. Gary

When we walked the path down to the water it wasn't what we expected. The place to jump the cliffs is a 10 min drive away. There is only 1 bathroom for the whole campsite which can be extremely busy at times anf far away depending on where you are camping, especially for the middle of the night. Our campsite is close to another property which wasn't a huge deal but you could hear the dude talking a lot. The showers ate some of my loonies so had to cut it short. They did refund me and it is probably due to user error.

overall we had a good experience, the camp is lively and the hosts are very friendly and welcoming, the river is beautiful and the showers are clean. HOWEVER the gate to the campground locks at 10pm and that info was nowhere on the hipcamp add. the host was apologetic but didn't refund anything.

Large double site, heavily treed which would be nice in the summer but it was quite dark on a very sunny day in early May. Also tried to walk to water area and managed to find the river easily but not an accessible spot like the picture on the website. I have poor directional talents but didn’t notice another trail, which sort of petered out in brush. Quiet and peaceful site though. Also nice, friendly young women checked me in.

Nice place, beautiful view of the night sky (if not, cloudy!), and we were isolated. There was a little bit of noise in the morning from dump trucks a few hundred meters away, but we didn't mind. Bring loonies for shower ($1/7 minutes) and washing was loonies plus quarters (I think it was 2.50 for a wash, but I didn't do any washing while there)

We had a tough time getting there with the ferry and all, but once we got to the campsite and settled in, it was amazing. The site was pretty secluded. The people that were there were all really nice. The area was covered in snow which made it beautiful. My wife and I had a great time snow camping.

We ended up staying in campsite 38, this was a nice, private site. The campsite host was very nice and checked up on us regularly. Highly recommend this campground. The water hole was amazing!

We really enjoyed our stay in the park. It’s well appointed, great WIFI signal, water, RV dump, and very quiet. The staff is super friendly, and children of all ages have things to do. We rode mountain bicycles up gravel roads and road bicycles in paved roads and there is much scenery and forests to enjoy!

I was tenting with some friends. It was a very nice campground. The river is a short walk from the campground and it was great for swimming. The second night I stayed we had some noisy neighbour's but all in all it was a great experience. The price was better than anywhere else I saw. I would definitely stay here again.
