Off-grid Cabin ’Big Spruce’
An Ashram Experience
My travel companion and I did not know what to expect as we had previously never experienced an ashram before. The location was very off the beaten path and the land was wild and beautiful. Structures included several cabins with varying amenities, a yoga hall, a dining hall, and a greenhouse/garden space. There was also an area to camp in tents and vehicles. All structures were clean, simple, but tastefully decorated. Upon arriving we were greeted and given a tour. Every individual we met in the community was warm and genuinely interested in conversation. The dining hall provided space for relaxing in the company of others, and contains a library and tea bar. We decided to add on a meal and a yoga practice. The meal was homemade and eaten with the community, everything was delicious and they offered seconds. We practiced Yoga Nidra in the hall after dinner with a few other community members, followed by an impromptu Kirtan, all guided by teachers with great experience. While we were only passing through, Anuttara was exactly what we needed to decompress on a six week long road trip. I had such a wholesome experience and met so many individuals with whom I had great conversations. Hopefully my life takes me back and I can spend more time next time!
