Living close to Georgian Bay, I’ve always wanted a waterfront property and I always believed in my heart that I will be blessed with one someday. After our family’s first camping trip to Manitoulin Island, my husband and I fell in love with “Spirit Island” and decided to find our own special place. Around Thanksgiving weekend of 2019, after several trips back and viewing a dozen properties, our search for a land was finally over and our wish came true. God was and is indeed faithful and in His own sweet time, has blessed us with a beautiful land. It has been quite a journey and with God’s grace, our place has been such a Sweet Oasis! It is our hope and prayer that we can share our blessings of this land to everyone who loves nature and respect God’s awesome creations! 😊 Sweet Oasis is a private camping get away. Tranquil & serene campsite provides you with a beautiful waterfront view. RV only campsite (dry camping). Forest, mature trees, birds & wildlife. Swimming, canoeing, kayaking fishing, biking, campfires & little adventures. Sweet memories await you. 🙂 Please note there is a quarry operation nearby which can be heard periodically. Christina was a super responsive host The site was just as desxribed except it was much more magical than anticipated Beautiful view of the night sky and little touches like tiny solar lights in the bunkie and on the trees near the water. After spending a lot of time in campgrounds, this stop was wonderful break.

The camp site is located on the left side of an open grass area along a mixed cedar and spruce stand of trees. Close walk to toilet and shower facilities

The campground/resort is very cozy with cabins & a trailer scattered throughout the property. The Chickadee campsite was wonderful - right next to the woods, with its own private path to the river (a lovely spot for morning coffee in the sun). Also close to the (very clean and un-smelly) outhouse/vault toilet, shower, and water tap. Good mix of sun and shade. And power! Access to the beach across the street was incredible! Also within walking distance of the town. Deanne was a warm and welcoming host. Really felt at home here. Honestly couldn't have asked for anything more! :)

My wife and I absolutely loved our time at Sweet Oasis. Sweet Oasis offers a beautiful view of the sunrise and a perfect view of the night sky. An absolute must for anyone looking to unplug and enjoy the outdoors. The space also has plenty of seating, tables and a great fire pit. Liza was a kind, great and communicative host! It's very serene, secluded and quiet. Do not miss your chance to book this spot, you won't regret it.

The Chickadee Rest campsite was lovely, we lucked out and had the area to ourselves. We enjoyed being surrounded by trees with access to the creek from our campsite. The shower was clean with plenty of hot water and the owners are working on building a washroom beside the shower. The campground is across the street from a large, beautiful beach. The town is small but there is a great fish and chip restaurant within easy walking distance. We really enjoyed our stay, and the owners were kind and welcoming.

I spent two nights here and really enjoyed my stay. Hosts were excellent with communication and very welcoming upon my arrival. Site is very well clean and well-maintained and backs up to the Mindemoya River, with a nicely cleared path, providing access down to the river if you so desire. The entire camping area was mowed and hook ups were easy to use, with trash and recycling receptacles right at my site. The hosts are the newest generation to manage and operate this business which has been in the family for several generations. In addition to the camping site, there are cabin sites, as well. They are modernizing and upgrading and doing a good job of it, from what I could see. The shower area was clean and modern with good hot water and good water pressure. Chickadee’s Rest and the other two similar sites were adjacent to, but separate from the cabin areas, giving a safe, peaceful feel. Fulford’s is within probably 100 meters or less from the boardwalk at the Providence Bay Beach. When I arrived, they shared with me that it was a great place to watch the sunset over the bay. It is also walking distance to pretty much everything in Providence Bay. I found it to be a right central location for my time exploring various areas of Manitoulin Island. House went above and beyond to be helpful and accommodating to me, and if I ever return to the island, you can be certain that I will plan to stay with them again.

2 nights at Spring Bay Bunkie... Lot 20

I was impressed, the place had about everything you need for cooking, then some. Loads of chairs and loungers of various types. The lake is a limestone shelf (Alvar) that drops off very very slowly, you have to go quite far out to get to your waist, but be mindful of the waves, dont turn your back on them as a general rule. The water was clear and cold, but not frigid, the perfect type of cold on a summer day, you can stay in for hours. A general store is up the street about 6 mins for any needs. To be picky, the bunkie only needs one thing, a solar powered roof vent, it trapped a lot of heat during the day. It was hot at night. But this is just a trivial nitpick. I've done a lot of Hipcamps all over North America, this is one of the top 3. I would like to go back again.

What a gorgeous site on the northern shore of Lake Huron. The coast is unique and swimming on the shore is excellent. Clean and clear water abounds! The bunkie is designed for practical yet eye-pleasing glamping. Basic needs are met and some extras too but not so many frills that it seems cluttered. Her decor is both streamlined and comfy. The addition of a deck and a fire pit surrounded by Adirondack chairs create great outdoor hangout options. And the picnic table for dining under an umbrella works just fine for outdoor dining. Thanks Tina for a lovely get away!!

This cabin is awesome! We stayed 2 nights and explored the island. We found the cabin and land so charming, with plenty of areas to sit, cooking utensils, and pretty solar lights. We had a fire at the cabin one night and a fire by the water the other. It rained pretty hard at one point and we were very happy to not be in a tent!

If you are looking for a perfect spot on Manitoulin Island which offers a place on South Bay right on the water, this is the place for you! Currently, there are no properties on Hip Camp offering privacy on Lake Huron. The owners have laid out the property in a way that you do not notice the neighbors. Rain or shine, the water views are gorgeous and untouched. This is a true Sweet Oasis! For Dark Sky Astronomy events, check out The Manitoulin Eco Park which is right down Rt. 6.

Where to go

Bruce Peninsula National Park

Surrounded by rock slabs stretching out from the shore into Georgian Bay, Bruce Peninsula National Park is a superb location for summer swimming and hiking. Miller Lake offers treed campsites for pitching a tent and waterfront cottages for added luxury. Or choose Cyprus Lake Campground as a home base, and hike the 45-minute Bruce Trail to The Grotto, a cave featuring craggy rock formations sprinkled with clinging pine trees and a spacious natural pool inside—a solid spot for cliff jumping. Be sure to book advance parking reservations if you plan on driving—spots fill up quickly. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing dominate the trails in winter, but certain areas of the park may be inaccessible due to snowy conditions.

Fathom Five National Marine Park

A bucket-list destination for snorkelers and divers, Fathom Five National Marine Park has 130 square kilometres of water to explore, including 22 shipwrecks and islands with old-growth forests. Take a glass-bottom boat tour to peer into the depths of the freshwater ecosystems, or visit Flowerpot Island to see the solitary stacks of escarpment dotting the beaches. Independent types can opt for kayak and canoe rentals to venture out on their own.

Manitoulin Island

Manitoulin Island boasts the title of the world’s largest freshwater island. Arrive by ferry from the mainland (a two-hour trip), or drive over the iconic swing bridge (an Ontario heritage site). Kids love the sprawling green space, water park playground, and a midday snack at the picnic tables in Low Island Municipal Park. In the warmer months, spend the day horseback riding or exploring the water on a canoe tour. Activities extend into the winter season with snowmobile tours and ice fishing.

When to go

Hipcampers are spoiled with seasonal activities all year, so the best time to visit Tobermory truly depends on personal preference.
