Wakita encompasses 25 acres of diverse wilderness and clearings. The land was developed in the 70's as an education, arts and health retreat and that history influences its atmosphere today.
A small mountain creek meanders past gardens, berry patches, rustic cabins and a stage. The land is peppered with Ancient burned out cedar trunks that stand as a testament to the wildfire that razed the valley and the town of Fernie in the early 1900's. If guests are interested in a tour we will show you our favorites!
Since Wakita borders on the wilderness of BC, we ask that our guests exercise common sense when it comes to food and fires. Upon arrival, we will provide information on the use of woodstoves, firepits, composting outhouses (for a-frame and campsites), etc.
Wakita is a 15 min drive from all of the amenities and adventure available in beautiful Fernie, BC. Explore further up our road and you will find the trailheads for popular hikes to Mount Hosmer, the Three Sisters and Heiko's trail.
Our Hipcamp accommodations consist of our glamping a-frame, an unserviced RV/tenting site and a fully serviced cabin. We look forward to being a part of your Fernie adventure!

I bought this magical property 13 years ago and I have developed it from beach to mountain with the idea of sharing it with epic humans since day 1.
It is 1 acre of pure natural and artistic bliss. The natural wonders include a massive beach with space for many, a gigantic sling shot, sweet fire pits, comfortable lawn chairs, paddle boards, kayaks, a cedar strip canoe, and many other toys free for you to explore. Please note that the Beach house guests have priority of the Gazebo but there are many spots/tables and parasols set up to enjoy all other spots on the beach.
My property has 2 rentals on it, the other is right on the beach called "Sweet beach house-edge of the water", in case you wanted to book both locations. There are also a couple of sites for extra guests to pitch a tent on for a fee.
Its like jurassic park here...very tropical and chill. The artful camper boasts of an outdoor spa and deck, BBQ, mini fridge, fantastic lake and mountain views and access to the beach from 9am-8pm. The other rental a.k.a. The beach-house comes with an attached outdoor 1950's style kitchen, oudoor on demand shower, outhouse, fire pits, lawn chairs, and free use of water vessels. It is located steps from the water. Truly magical.

We are an easy-going couple, and our property is a 3.39-acre mountainside work-in-progress on the East Shore of Kootenay Lake. This land we steward is within the unceded traditional territory of the Ktunaxa First Nation. Our location is remote, with a 45-minute (winding road) drive to town.

The cabin in incredible but the outdoor 1950’s inspired kitchen will blow your mind. Stocked with the means to make a gourmet meal, you will want to use more than just the BBQ.

Serene spot with a nice trickling stream going through the back portion providing a beautiful ambience at all times without being too loud. The cabin is cozy and protects well from the elements. The outdoor camp kitchen counter/sink is a nice touch. The shower gets hot on sunny days, as its solar powered. Works great. Ideal for couples or single child family.

Weekend Trip to Wakita
My partner and I adored our experience at Craig's a-frame cabin. Directions from Hipcamp were accurate which was helpful since you lose service along the short drive up a mountain road to the cabin. Craig was there to greet us, and had already chopped some wood for our stay, he was very nice, responsive and helpful.
The a-frame lodge was adorable, well maintained and quite roomy, with a decent sized bed, dining table, and wood burning fire place, inside was overall a cozy vibe.
Outside the cabin was serene - there is a stream running right beside it, with a densely forested landscape. Even with others staying close by its well secluded and quiet.
Our only complaint is that their dogs didn't come up to visit us!

Weekend Trip to Wakita
The cabin is a charming retreat in the middle of the forest, very private and quiet. There’s a creek right beside it, allowing you to hear the sound of running water all the time, which is very relaxing. Next to the creek, there’s also a little bench where you can enjoy wonderful meals.
We were lucky to visit during raspberry season, as the place is surrounded by them, we even ate a few.
The cabin is cozy and has musical instruments, so if you have this talent, you definitely won’t get bored. The bathroom is just a few steps away, as is the shower.

Beautiful location! The Geodome was a neat experience! Ryan provided us with everything we needed and was very helpful making sure we had a great stay! Communications with Ryan were easy and he quickly answered any questions we had. The property is very large and had everything, from the netted gazebo, fire pit area, outdoor shower, and the nicest, cleanest, most amazing view outhouse!

Absolutely loved this spot!
The setup was super cozy, unique, and had everything I needed for a relaxing stay. The beach was beautiful and well-stocked with water crafts, comfy chairs, and all the little extras that make a big difference.
Babs was such a warm and welcoming host—so easy to talk to and genuinely thoughtful. The beautiful weather was just the cherry on top.

Had an absolutely incredible weekend with my brother and our friends. The geodome was so cool, and the prospectors cabin was awesome! The wood stove kept us cozy while it rained.
