Wakita encompasses 25 acres of diverse wilderness and clearings. The land was developed in the 70's as an education, arts and health retreat and that history influences its atmosphere today. A small mountain creek meanders past gardens, berry patches, rustic cabins and a stage. The land is peppered with Ancient burned out cedar trunks that stand as a testament to the wildfire that razed the valley and the town of Fernie in the early 1900's. If guests are interested in a tour we will show you our favorites! Since Wakita borders on the wilderness of BC, we ask that our guests exercise common sense when it comes to food and fires. Upon arrival, we will provide information on the use of woodstoves, firepits, composting outhouses (for a-frame and campsites), etc. Wakita is a 15 min drive from all of the amenities and adventure available in beautiful Fernie, BC. Explore further up our road and you will find the trailheads for popular hikes to Mount Hosmer, the Three Sisters and Heiko's trail. This land we steward is within the unceded traditional territory of the Ktunaxa First Nation. Our location is remote with a 45 minute (winding road) drive to town. Our property is 50km from Creston, 75 km of Nelson (with a ferry ride) and 150km from Cranbrook. We have easy access to great hiking trails, birdwatching, swimming and fishing. We are surrounded by forest and are a very short, but steep walk to the beach. We are happy to help you explore!

Very beautiful stay. Craig the host was very helpful and ensured we were comfortable and ready for our time there, even though we arrived after dark. Lovely indoor camp fire, musical instruments, and a very comfortable bed. Definitely would love to go back and would highly recommend.

Serene spot with a nice trickling stream going through the back portion providing a beautiful ambience at all times without being too loud. The cabin is cozy and protects well from the elements. The outdoor camp kitchen counter/sink is a nice touch. The shower gets hot on sunny days, as its solar powered. Works great. Ideal for couples or single child family.

My partner and I adored our experience at Craig's a-frame cabin. Directions from Hipcamp were accurate which was helpful since you lose service along the short drive up a mountain road to the cabin. Craig was there to greet us, and had already chopped some wood for our stay, he was very nice, responsive and helpful. The a-frame lodge was adorable, well maintained and quite roomy, with a decent sized bed, dining table, and wood burning fire place, inside was overall a cozy vibe. Outside the cabin was serene - there is a stream running right beside it, with a densely forested landscape. Even with others staying close by its well secluded and quiet. Our only complaint is that their dogs didn't come up to visit us!

The cabin is a charming retreat in the middle of the forest, very private and quiet. There’s a creek right beside it, allowing you to hear the sound of running water all the time, which is very relaxing. Next to the creek, there’s also a little bench where you can enjoy wonderful meals. We were lucky to visit during raspberry season, as the place is surrounded by them, we even ate a few. The cabin is cozy and has musical instruments, so if you have this talent, you definitely won’t get bored. The bathroom is just a few steps away, as is the shower.

We really enjoyed our stay, the signage was clear, the communication from Craig was awesome Craig was very warm and friendly, we appreciated him, greeting us The location is tranquil, peaceful, and a wonderful escape from any city life. The bed in the A-frame was really comfortable The didgeridoo was a bonus 😀 We would recommend it to anybody who wants to have a great experience in the outdoors.

Beautiful location! The Geodome was a neat experience! Ryan provided us with everything we needed and was very helpful making sure we had a great stay! Communications with Ryan were easy and he quickly answered any questions we had. The property is very large and had everything, from the netted gazebo, fire pit area, outdoor shower, and the nicest, cleanest, most amazing view outhouse!

Had an absolutely incredible weekend with my brother and our friends. The geodome was so cool, and the prospectors cabin was awesome! The wood stove kept us cozy while it rained. Disc golf, giant beer pong, corn hole, axe throwing, all great fun. Ryan was an excellent host and we are already planning our next trip!
