Learn more about this land: Our campsite is located along the beautiful Spillimacheen River, in Spillimacheen BC which is 20mins south of Golden BC and 30mins north of Radium Hot Springs BC. This property is very secluded and surrounded by crown land. It’s the perfect property to disconnect and reconnect, with limited cell service this allows you to turn off and just enjoy being outside in nature. Campers can choose where to park along a large cleared area. There are designated campfire locations and an outhouse. From the property, you can Kayak down the river, please Google and research before launching as there are a lot of writes ups and kayaking websites that feature the Spillimacheen River. Nature trails for hiking and walking right off the property. There is a well renowned natural rock wall for climbers 3km down the road, there are also a lot of websites that feature these rock walls. Within a half an hour drive you have two easy hikes in waterfalls (the Lower Bugaboo Falls and the Brisco Falls). Spillimacheen has a cafe and also a local market store that is full of delicious treats, beer and wine. The wetlands offer endless bird watching and beautiful mountain views. If you require firewood you must order ahead of your stay. On site purchases are not available. We deliver the bundles the day of your arrival. We are just 7 min away away from the Golden Skybridge and the beautiful Blaeberry Valley and 5 km from the Trans Canada Highway, which connects to Revelstoke in the West and the National Parks in the East.

We had such a lovely stay! Claire was very responsive. All of the directions to manage the treehouse were clearly outlined and the treehouse looked exactly like the photos! We came during the winter time and there was an abundant amount of wood to keep the tent warm! Overall, we had a beautiful stay with everything we needed.

Absolutely phenomenal experience. Claire provided clear, thoughtful, and detailed instructions and information every step of the way, from our questions prior to booking, to the instruction booklets on site that ensured a stress free stay. The property itself was very easy to find and navigate, and the treehouse was absolutely magical. You can feel the love and care that the hosts have put into the property in every detail, and we felt as though they covered every aspect of comfort we could possibly ask for, providing plenty of wood, blankets, and simple, but much appriciated amentities. The treehouse is also within comfortable walking distance from the parking area but is still private, which allows for the most breathtaking and scerene viewing of the mountains and birds in the area. I can't say that I have ever stayed somewhere that has compared to this, and would easily choose this experience over any luxury hotel, even considering our snowy morning. Our only regret is that we only stayed one night, and would definitely recommend booking two or more nights so you can take advantage of the hiking trails and appreciate it too it's full extent!!

3 nights at Canadian Rockies Retreat

Our three night stay was amazing! We had so much fun and definitely plan to go back again. The site is exactly as described. It is perhaps a bit rougher camping than more typical campsites/rv sites but was made more enjoyable for it. The site is only 20 minutes out of Golden so you have very close immediate access to any necessities you may have forgot There is no service or power so keep that in mind when packing. The roads immediately leading up are, as seen in the other reviews, a bit rough and agree with the 4WD recommendation. Another thing that would have made the unpacking and packing easier was a cart/wagon on wheels as you do have to walk your things from the vehicle to the site. The mosquitoes can be persistent so use bug spray/coils/thermacell etc to help manage and maybe have an enclosed canopy so you have somewhere to relax away from them. There were so many lakes within easy driving distance (less than an hour) for swimming/paddle boarding/fishing. 10/10 would recommend!

Beautiful views. It was like you had the whole mountain to yourself! There was a nice level gravel pad to park the camper. The road up and down to it was a little tricky with our size rig (34ft 5th wheel) but we made it ok. The only negative (which is beyond anyone's control) is that the mosquitos were REALLY bad. We heard this is an exceptionally bad year for them. Otherwise the place was lovely!

We loved staying on Flores' land. The site was clean, and the surrounding forest was beautiful. The site was closer to the path than anticipated, but there are only two other sites nearby, and they are well spaced out; therefore, we still had lots of privacy. The walk up to the waterfall was also fantastic, as it was peaceful and private, with great views, and it was possible to get pretty close to the waterfall. Although there was no service to provide directions, it was pretty straightforward to find with the signs. Would definitely recommend this site to anyone camping in the area!

Where to go

Moraine Lake

Lesser known than Lake Louise but just as beautiful, Moraine Lake is one way to escape the crowds—especially in the middle of summer. Personal vehicles are not allowed at Moraine Lake, but shuttles run from the town of Banff between June and October. Rugged adventurers can take the 10-hour hiking trail from Lake Louise—a challenging but rewarding route.

Castle Provincial Park

Halfway between Lake Louise and Banff’s town centre, Castle Mountain stretches 11 kilometres with steep shelves and cliffs that make it a prime spot for alpine rock climbing. Campers who like to keep their feet firmly on the ground can instead take advantage of the 7.4-km Castle Mountain lookout hike with 520 metres of elevation gain and a striking view of Bow Valley. Cabin camp nearby at the Blaeberry River or go glamping in the backcountry.

Johnston Canyon

Accessible from Lake Louise via Bow Valley Parkway, Johnston Canyon is an easy road trip add-on within Banff National Park. Wind your way down the elevated catwalks attached to canyon walls as the river gushes by. Then view the large waterfall from two platforms—a lower and an upper. It’s a 5-km round-trip walk with only a 30-meter elevation gain, so this is a prime spot for kids or campers looking for an easier hike.

Yoho National Park

Boasting 28 mountain peaks, Yoho National Park is set in British Columbia but only a 30-minute drive from Lake Louise (No public shuttles run in this area, so a private car is required). Take a break at Emerald Lake Lodge, or check out the Kicking Horse Pass National Historic Site—an engineering feat dubbed the “Big Hill” (and the highest elevation of the Canadian Pacific Railway). Watch trains from one of two Spiral Tunnel viewpoints as they head straight into Mount Ogden and Cathedral Mountain.

When to go

To experience the colour-saturated water, plan to arrive at Lake Louise before the lake ices over, any time between May and late October. June, July, and August are the best months for swimming, but the glacier-fed lake is chilly all year-round. December through March bring freezing temperatures, when winter activities are in full swing. The iconic lake generally draws big crowds—find a bit more room in the off-season, which includes late March, April, and November.
