I have been an organic market gardener for 25 years and now am downsizing the farm to welcome visitors to experience the Land, cabins and event space here.
I enjoy creating cozy, welcoming spaces that invite you to slow down, breathe deeply, relax, explore outdoors or stay in and recharge.
The buildings are not new but they are well cared for. The outside and inside areas are clean and tidy, while also showing their age and good use…just like those of us who live here :D
The well water is plentiful, potable and very rich in minerals. It leaves orange staining and a white residue where the water sits (think toilet/shower/sinks). It is cleaned thoroughly.
I provide bottles of reverse osmosis water in all cabins for drinking and to use in kettles/coffee makers.
Shared full kitchen/washroom with shower available, walking trails (bush trails), screened shared gazebo, hammocks and picnic tables.
Now with a pool! (subject to conditions).
Separately, the ‘Beaver lodge’ and Camping sites are located down river on 5 acres of mowed grassland next to 10 acres of wetland. Room for multiple mobile campers.

Beaver lodge has sleeping (foam mattresses) for 4, camping stove, kettle, frypan, 2 chairs/table).

We have a mix of open spaces, walking trails, wetland discovery zones and dense forest, both on site and surrounding our land. At The River is a boutique riverside nature retreat nestled on a 100-acre private nature sanctuary in wild Alberta, just 1.5 hours northwest of Edmonton.
With private access to the Freeman River just 30 metres from the cabin, you'll enjoy your own peaceful stretch of riverfront complete with a natural swimming hole, a stone and pebble shoreline, and a sandy island in the middle of the river. Spend your days swimming, floating the current, exploring the shoreline, or simply relaxing by the water. As evening falls, gather around the riverside campfire (firewood provided!) and soak in the golden sunset before a sky full of stars and if you're lucky, northern lights.
Wake up to the sound of the river, birdsong, and the wind moving through the trees. Beyond the river, explore forest trails, wetlands, scenic viewpoints, and abundant wildlife. Deer, beavers, bald eagles, owls, and countless songbirds are common visitors, while moose, bears, coyotes, cougars and other native wildlife also call this sanctuary home.
The cozy cabin comfortably sleeps up to four adults and features one king bedroom, one queen bedroom, a fireplace, propane stove, and a private outdoor washhouse with a hot shower, sink, and toilet. 2 toddler mattress are available upon request. Although our family home is located approximately 300 metres away on the hill, the cabin enjoys its own peaceful riverside setting immersed in nature.

While the sanctuary offers plenty to explore, you'll also find several local gems just a short drive away.
Schuman Lake (10 minutes) – A peaceful, crystal-clear lake perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, and rainbow trout fishing. With only non-motorized watercraft permitted, it's one of the area's most tranquil destinations.
Goose Lake (15 minutes) – Enjoy a sandy beach, boating, swimming, walking trails, picnic areas, and excellent fishing opportunities for northern pike and yellow perch.
Wild Violet Acres (15 minutes) – Browse a charming organic farm store featuring fresh produce, homemade bread, local meats, artisan foods, and specialty groceries.

We were lucky to find this gem of a place close to town, yet far enough away to forget the day to day. It was nice and private with lots of convenient comforts so we didn't need to worry about much but there were a fair number of off the grid and camping things if you are looking for a bit more rustic experience. We were invited to explore all the sights as there were no other visitors - great spot for singles, couples, pets, families and friends.
Carmen is a phenomenal host. Quick responses. Genuine appreciation to be able to share what she has created. She ensured we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We will happily go again!

2 nights at Hunter Valley Adventures
This was our second time staying here, and we loved it just as much as the first! Our first stay was in the River Cabin, and this time we stayed in the Forest Cabin. We had such a great time and really enjoyed the peaceful surroundings.
Adrian and Jessica were amazing hosts once again—so friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We definitely look forward to coming back again! 🌲🏕️❤️

Weekend Trip to At The River — Secluded Cabin
Nice greeting and info upon arrival. Easy directions and property location. Cabin feels private and is a nice distance from other property. The river is so close you can hear it constantly. Beautiful view. Quiet and peaceful. Lots of firewood, and the firepit is large and is easy to get going. A good selection of seating options. Has a rustic feel, but still comfortable. The wash-house with shower and toilet, was extremely clean and well maintained. Barrhead is close enough, but Fort Assi' is only 10 mins away. A solid little selection of small town amenities. I would definitely come back. The stars at night were mind-blowing, and even saw the northern lights for a brief time. Well maintained property. Thanks for having us. Cheers till next time.

I had a great time in the little A-frame cabin at HVA! It was the perfect place to sleep for a couple of nights, and the amenities around the campsite were excellent. If I get the chance I would definitely come here again.

Best place ever. No cell services so it was good detox for mental health as well. Adrian and Jessica were good host. Very friendly. We just stayed here for one night and left feeling relaxed. 10 stars for them. Would love to visit again.

We both really enjoyed our stay! We definitely overpacked because there were far more amenities than we expected, which was a pleasant surprise. The outhouse was very clean and well maintained, and there were fewer bugs than we anticipated.
The nights were a little chilly, so we'd recommend bringing a few extra blankets. Unfortunately, the river current was too strong for fishing while we were there, but the scenery and views were absolutely beautiful.
The property is very pet-friendly, and our puppy had an amazing time exploring. Adrian and Jessica were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable, which made our stay even more enjoyable. We'd happily stay here again!

Weekend Trip to Ravens Valley Chickadee chalet
We had such an amazing time staying at the shack over the weekend! Even when the thunder and rain storm hit, we were able to watch the lightning with total amazement and had so much fun running inside as fast as we could to escape the rain. Carmen was an incredible owner and recommended that we head out to Prairie Gardens, which had so many beautiful plants, flowers, and a fantastic goat petting zoo. We also checked out the 100 year old store she suggested, which was awesome. It truly was the date of a lifetime and we will definitely be going back at the end of the summer when the mosquitoes aren't so crazed! Thank you so much for this experience Carmen! We loved it so much :)

Weekend Trip to Nature Alive Adventures and Camping
My husband and I were looking forward to a nice little break from the city and this was the perfect place to relax and unwind. Our only regret is that we did not stay long enough! Stayed in the Rest Nest and it was so comfortable and had everything one could need. Loved the hot tub and the lovely nature that surrounded us. Dale and Colleen were wonderful hosts and Sully the cat was great company! We will definitely be back.

I have used HipCamp a few times now but this trip was intended to be something special. A trip for me and my two young boys while my Mrs and daughter went on their beach holiday. We planned to go fishing and then to a campsite to overnight and hopefully see the stars and make some core memories. This lived up to it and more.
First to the location. This is located in the Boreal forest and when I say in I mean right inside of it. Besides the drive there being breath taking (we saw a bear on the side of the road and loads of wildlife) the drive into the site was fantastic. There is a beautiful shared space for camp fires right next to the hot tub and shower areas as you arrive.
Our host Dale and his wife were fantastic. They showed us to the cabin which looked like something out of a movie. It was right next to a scenic pond. We brought some of the fish we caught and Dale provided us with some plates and cutlery and helped us with some water.
As we got settled in and finished dinner we had a lovely walk around the site and the boys came across a mink that had a run in with the cat. They had their own little animal rescue experience and returned it to the wild. That night we were expecting rain and so we knew we wouldn’t see any stars which was disappointing given how dark it was. We were instead blessed with a lightning and thunder show which we took in from the comfort of the hot tub. All in all we had an amazing experience. Hoping to return fall/winter

Carmen was very welcoming, thoughtful, and accommodating! This was an absolutely lovely little retreat with lots of attention to detail both inside the cabin and out. We got to watch birds, feed squirrels, and enjoy a beautiful evening under the stars with the glowing ambiance of the fire table. Carmen also gave us some great recommendations for local sites, and we had a wonderful time exploring. Would highly recommend the Chickadee Chalet to anyone looking for a little getaway that is not too far off the beaten path but still feels like a relaxing escape into nature!

When we arrived Thoran came to meet us and show us around. He was so friendly and enthusiastic it made us very excited for our stay. The cabin was perfect for our family of 4. The kids loved the loft. Everything you could need was supplied for cooking, eating and sleeping. They even had blankets for outside by the fire!
The outdoor space was beautiful and we especially loved the outdoor kitchen. The attention to detail both inside and outside the cabin was amazing. The outhouse was one of the nicest ones I’ve ever been in. It was immaculately clean and there wasn’t a spider web to be found. It didn’t even smell like an outhouse! The same for the picnic table, it was completely spiderweb free! Everything felt brand new. You can tell they put a lot of care into their place. There were also motion sensor lights on the way to the outhouse, no need to hunt for a flashlight in the middle of the night!
They have the sweetest dogs who came for visits and joined us on the trails (with our permission). The best part by far was the interactive map they have of the trails on their property. You scan a QR code and the map comes up with the trails and it shows you where you are the whole time just like Google Maps when you’re driving. It was the coolest ever! The trails were very well maintained. We had a great time exploring them.
Ruger Ridge is 10/10! We will definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Nature Alive Adventures and Camping
Our stay at Nature Alive Adventures was absolutely wonderful.
The property is beautiful and peaceful, with an abundance of wildlife that made every day feel like a true nature experience. Whether relaxing on the grounds or simply enjoying the scenery, there was always something to appreciate.
The hot tub was fantastic, and the shower facilities were spotless, modern, and very well maintained. After a day of exploring, it was the perfect place to unwind.
Our cabin was beautifully appointed, cozy, and thoughtfully equipped. The bed was exceptionally comfortable—one of the best sleeps we've had while traveling.
What truly made the experience special were the hosts, Dale and Colleen. They were warm, welcoming, and genuinely cared about ensuring guests had a memorable stay.
If you're looking for a peaceful getaway surrounded by nature, comfort, and outstanding hospitality, I highly recommend Nature Alive Adventures. We can't wait to return!

Carmen was a fantastic host, very helpful and gave a lot of good suggestions on places in the area to go.
Cozy coyote was very cozy indeed! Cute little cabin! It was very rainy and cold the last two days we stayed but it was great.
Carmen has a great piece of land that's very private and we enjoyed our stay. We will be booking again!

Our group of ladies absolutely loved our stay with Dale and Coleen. Incredibly kind, accommodating and experts of the beautiful land they are blessed with.

I love everything here! Carmen is very accommodating! It was cold during my stay but she provided extra comfy blankets. I like that she has a fire table as well, since it's kinda windy to use the fire pit. There's enough water - about 5 gallon, barbecue grill, some cooking equipment and plates. The view from the cabin is fantastic! I would stay here longer next time. 😊 Thank you, Carmen. You are awesome!
