Winding Stair Campground sits at an elevation of 3,880 feet, next to the headwaters of the Nantahala River and is surrounded by national forest and undeveloped private land trusts. The stunning mountain views in a remote tucked-away setting make our farm a perfect getaway! Just a 15-minute scenic drive from Franklin in North Carolina, easily accessible off Hwy 64, our campground offers a chance to enjoy nature without being far away from the public amenities of a small but well-equipped town. A few features about our property: - Working farm: Campers are welcome to meet our Icelandic sheep and take a self-guided tour of our farm, along designated pathways. - Security: The campground and farm are fenced in on three sides with the river being the fourth boundary. Personal code to the entrance gate will be given at check in. - Bath House: The restored bathhouse is split into boys’ and girls’ sides. Each side has 2 private showers, 4 flushing toilets, sinks, hot water, and gas heat. - Community Pavilion: The Pavilion is a large 40x30 ft. open sided structure overlooking the Nantahala River. It has an ample fireplace, running water sink, counter space, couches, and table with benches. - Pack Room: Where the adventure begins! A cozy hub where all guests check-in, get local information, view maps, and grab some local seasonal groceries. Also available to all campers are washing sinks with hot water, toaster oven and microwave. - Communication: Or rather, lack thereof! There's no cell service on the property so it's a great time to get away from it all. There is limited Wi-Fi available near the Pack Room and an emergency landline available. - Charging: Traveling in an electric vehicle? Recharge for free at our dedicated EV 50amp outlet when you stay at any of our sites. First come, first served. Want to know more about the history of the property? Brass Camp
I loved tent camping at Brass Camp. It had a nice moss cover on the ground so it wasn’t too hard and plenty of amenities. The bathrooms are spacious and clean and very close to the campsite. The fireplace has a grate to cook on which came in handy. I would absolutely stay here again. The sheep and animals were a highlight as well!

River House
Rest by the river!
Our family was looking for a quiet place to ring in the new year. The River House was perfect! We were a little worried about the temperatures getting low at night. Robyn was a gracious hostess that set us up for success for a comfortable trip. The sound of the river was a perfect white noise for our daughter. The privacy curtains around the double beds doubled as blackout curtains for a cozy nap. The River House itself was very comfortable to sleep in. The stove inside was wonderful and kept us nice and toasty before bed. The farm is awesome - an added bonus for entertaining kids! Our two year old loved walking through looking at all the animals! The Bath House was nicely done, clean and WARM! The camp store had WiFi - nice to check in with family and then turn your phone back on airplane mode. This spot is truly a little slice of paradise. So many cool places to hang out. Something for everyone. The other guests we ran into on the property were very kind as well. Looking forward to booking this spot for some spring/summer fun!

THE BEST of the best, fell in love!
This is by far THE BEST campground we’ve ever stayed at. You’ll fall in love as soon as you enter the gate. We were under a burn ban during our stay, and were so lucky to have the outdoor fireplace to stay warm and congregate. Every detail at this campground is well thought out and intentional, and focuses on not only the guest experience but sustainability, which we loved. My husband also caught his first wild trout fly fishing right on the Nantahala! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a smaller, boutique style stay with peaceful views and amazing amenities.

River House
Heaven by the river!
We found a little slice of heaven, down by the river! Absolutely amazing screened room, to spend a relaxing weekend away from distractions. Perfect glamping spot, that kept us dry, despite the constant mist outdoors. The white noise of the river, along with the patter of rain on the tin roof, lulled me to sleep. I didn't want to leave! The added benefit of the cleanest bath house we've ever encountered, and the gorgeous communal pavilion, just makes this place an ideal escape. Even with a burn ban in effect, we had ample cooking choices at the pavilion, or in the pack house. Only thing I'd change, is next time I'll rent the portable toilet. If you're over the hill, or a female, you really don't wanna make the requisite trek up the hill, to pee, at 2 am! Will definitely be back. Hate to share with others, because I want to keep it to myself!

Great visit to Franklin
Great spot right next to the river! Lots of amenities and they were very accommodating to making our stay enjoyable even though the county had a fire ban. We are already looking ahead to coming back in the spring

Fern Gully on the River
Fern Gully campsite was the perfect spot near the river. It was nice and private with beautiful plants and trees surrounding the site and stone steps leading down to the river. Just a short walk to the community pavilion. We really enjoyed walking around the property and touring the farm to see all the animals. Winding Stair is like a slice of heaven!
