Once you’ve admitted to the camping fraternity that you’re really more of a yurter, at Devon Yurt Glampsite you need to decide whether you’re a Great Links or a Little Links type. Views towards Dartmoor National Park unfurl from the oak door frames and each hogs a prime spot on Devon’s edge of the Tamar Valley, yet the characters of these stylish yurts are quite different.

With its enclosed garden and proximity to the shower house (we’re talking slate-floored, glass-fronted wetroom overlooking rolling moors), Little Links is well suited to couples seeking a little romance. Hens and geese cluck and gabble over the fence, there’s a barbecue-cum-campfire area and – perhaps the most important detail – the wood-fired bath and a separate, private hot tub awaits just footsteps from the yurt.

Great Links has a hot tub too and can sleep up to six people so is ideal for a family of yurters. In an elevated meadow a short walk from the farmhouse, here you are rewarded with more space, more seclusion and a sleigh bed from which you merely have to plump your pillows to watch the sunrise. It's beautifully far away from it all and has its own outdoor shower, washing-up area and flushing loo.

Whichever yurt suits you, it’s the little things that makes glamping at this place special: the fire ready-prepared, freshly laid eggs for breakfast, the veg and herb garden and home-baked rainy-day cakes. After all, how many campsites have you stayed in where rain is something you actually look forward to?

Great Links Yurt

Great Links yurt is a whopping 21 foot in diameter and is the more remote of our two yurts, it is ideal for guests who really want to immerse themselves in nature and all it has to offer, huge skies filled with stars, stunning sunrises over Dartmoor and the charming church of Brentor beautifully framed from your oak doorway. If you can drag yourself away from your yurt, private paddock, fire pit and hot tub and hot outdoor shower, then you also have a most elegant wet room styled shower room in a neighbouring barn, a wide range of beautiful farm animals to get to know and a seemingly endless list of places to visit and things to do in the neighbourhood. Be as lazy or active as you wish, the choice is yours. You can have a breakfast basket delivered to your door in the morning - and you can BBQ in the evenings or take part in one of our pizza nights, or enjoy one of Borough Farm's legendary home made meals. Gather your family and friends and have exclusive use of the whole site to celebrate a landmark birthday or other celebration. If you come as a group, you can eat al fresco or dine in The Loft which seats up to 30 people.

Little Links Yurt

Little Links yurt is a spacious 18 feet in diameter fitted with a log burner, carpets and sheepskins to keep you warm, ideal for couples and families with small children. You will be welcomed with our own homemade elderflower cordial on arrival and fresh farm produce will be available depending on the season. Celebration cakes can be ordered as well as veg and fruit boxes, breakfast, BBQ hampers and delicious home made evening meals using local and farm produce. Little Links Yurt is particularly charming and romantic and is equipped with a double sized bed complete with crisp cotton linen for 2 adults and 2 roll out futons for up to 2 children, there is space for a baby with a high chair, cot and changing table available in the Shower Barn, Please bring your own towels. You have a garden all to yourselves where you will find a picnic table with seats draped with sheepskins, with a further BBQ area, a fire pit and rustic benches in an adjacent meadow overlooking Dartmoor. It is more central to the farm, as such, it is more conveniently located to the shower house, amenities and the bath tent than Great Links yurt. Bring your horse or bikes and enjoy the trails surrounding our site. Little links has its own private log fired hot tub situated with dramatic Dartmoor National Park as the back drop. Relax and embrace nature as the sun sets and dusk commences, sit under big open skies and enjoy the warmth of the water, heated by logs, whilst watching a dark night sky embedded with stars. We are in a dark sky area so our night skies are particularly amazing.

Here at Multi award winning Devon Yurt we are passionate about many things. Firstly, our landscape, our stunning views towards Dartmoor from this beautiful nature friendly farm. These views are what inspired us to start our glamping business here many moons ago.This is what gives our site its WOW factor! Secondly, we value the peace and quiet of this location and we are proud to announce that we are probably one of the least densely populated glamping sites in the country ! Here on our 18 acres of nature friendly farmland, it is just ourselves, yourselves and our animals. We have just two multi award winning yurts, each set in their own meadow with their own fire pits and outdoor eating area where you are free to soak up the great outdoors without interruption from fellow campers, allowing you - our valued guests, all important space and privacy. We wouldn't want to holiday in a field filled with other guests so we don't expect our guests to do so either! Each yurt has a wonderful log fired, fresh water hot tub, for its own private use. Next we value the wildlife in this haven, the early morning birdsong, the bats, the foxes and badgers, the hedgehogs and butterflies, we encourage our guests to notice of what is around them. We have bird tables and guidebooks and nature logs for each yurt. One guest announced last Summer, 'It's not every morning that you see a buzzard on the way to the bathroom!' Next, we are passionate about our domestic animals, our chickens – if you wish, you can collect your own eggs from the hen houses ! – our rare breed Devon and Cornwall Longwool sheep which you can help feed, and our Connemara ponies who will have their heads over the stable doors when you arrive at the farm waiting for a friendly hello, and of course, our Labrador Alba who is always happy to see you. Last, but not least, we are passionate about sharing this hidden corner of the world with you, about making your holiday truly memorable and providing you with a retreat from our all too often frantic modern lives, giving you time to connect with yourselves, your loved ones and with nature. Julia is on hand to be your nature activity concierge, directing you to all the best local spots and in so doing, helping to make your holiday as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

Nearby attractions

Dartmoor is one of the biggest attractions, but there’s much more than walking and wild swimming on the doorstep. Go horse riding over the moors with Cholwell Riding Stables at Mary Tavy (01822 810526), or award winning Liberty trails. Swing through the Tamar Valley woodland on a high ropes course (01822 833409). Also at Gunnislake, there are 25 miles of family-friendly cycle trails (bike hire available), and freewheeling fans have also got the disused railway track of the Tarka Trail nearby. Route 27 cycle track, the granite way and the drakes trail. Families can also make the most of the natural environment at Lydford Gorge, where a walk to the waterfall (accessible buggy route) is complete with all the National Trust trimmings, including a café and picnic area. And, despite the name, it's not all Devon, Devon, Devon. The rugged Cornish coast is a 30-minute drive and Cornwall's famous Eden Project (01726 811911) is nearby too. Devon Yurt can provide details of all the surrounding nearby beaches such as Widemouth Bay and Bude, lakes, rivers and top walking spots, not to mention secret plunge pools and wonderful dog walks.

Food and drink

Fresh seasonal produce including vegetables, fruit, salad and free-range eggs are available on site, and you can help yourself to herbs from the kitchen garden. You can also arrange pre-made breakfasts, delivered to your door in a hamper. Beyond Julia’s excellent home-baked cakes and elderflower cordial, Lifton Farm Shop (01566 784605) is the place to go for the very best local goodies . For eating out with kids in tow, a couple of the best pubs in the area include the Dartmoor Inn at Lydford (01822 820221; www.dartmoorinn.com) and the Blacksmiths Arms at Lamerton (01822 612962). For traditional Devon pub grub, check out the Elephant’s Nest (01822 810273). plus the award winning Cornish Arms in Tavistock.
