Overview

About

Have a dam good time on a small portion of the dammed-up Colorado River. This lake is part of the Texas parks system, and it's quite in the middle of nowhere. If you're halfway between Dallas and El Paso, you're close to this wilderness getaway.

Rent a kayak if you don't have your own. Lake Colorado City has tons of inlets and coves to explore. The park itself has 5 miles of scenic shoreline. The boat dock is also a good place to cast your line, whether you want to catch bass, channel cat, or sunfish.

Hiking trails move you through grassland prairies and some mesquite trees. Keep an eye out for birds, small mammals, and colorful wildflowers. Shortly after it rains, the plants and animals burst with activity.

The park utilizes 69 campsites with water and electricity along with 34 water-only campsites. Eleven cabins all have lake views for glampers.
