Lovely, pretty well-secluded site, on a gorgeous farm. Full of trails and animals. Beautiful lake and walk up to the B&B with farm shop. Very friendly and helpful host full of advice when asked. Also, lovely to access to the hall for the facilities too, especially after a few days on the road before we arrived.

1 night at Peace Hill Farm

Ended up staying at another site on the farm to keep from tearing up the grass from all the rain. All the sites around the worship hall/bathrooms were nice and not to far to walk. Shower was hot but could use a couple hooks for holding towels and such... which could be in work based off the drywall being installed. Overall a great stop and Susan kept us informed about what to expect. Would definitely stop in again 👍

2 nights at Peace Hill Farm

The overall experience was great. My wife and I are always try to find new places to “off grid” camp. I decided to test out Peace Hill alone before I brought my wife along and I was not disappointed. I stayed in site #4 which was the most private site (which I enjoyed). The site was well maintained level packed dirt, no hook-ups and fire ring. All four site are large and spaced far apart unlike 99% of campgrounds. I stayed one night but originally booked two nights due to incoming weather I decided to leave early, so I didn’t get to see all the farm had to offer. But they have a decent amount of walking trails, farm shop, toilets, shower, kitchen and more (walking trails connect to everything on the farm). The camp host provided me with detailed instructions for my stay along with a nice map! I enjoyed waking to see the horses grazing in the pastures. It is a truly beautiful place to have a little get away and disconnect. I will be returning soon with my wife and look forward to exploring all the amenities that Peace Hill has to offer.

Tent camping on Marvin's land was wonderful. Marvin was kind enough to bring kindling and plenty of lighter fluid/kerosene to help us get our fire started. Outhouse was nice and clean when we arrived. Location is very close to Virginia Diner, which is a must-visit.

My stay at the farm was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Marvin is an excellent host. Great communication and very accommodating. The hot shower and flushable toilet are definitely a nice bonus. I look forward to coming back and telling others about this hidden gem.

I loved tent camping at site 4. Beautiful and really is peaceful property. We walked around the circle twice a day. I brought my four children and they loved the horses donkeys chickens and goats. We started feeding the horses grass and they got really excited and started sprinting around their fenced in area. Wow what an experience! The access to bathrooms, they also have a kids room with toys! , and kitchen and shower made the tent experience feel like an RV experience. We’ll be back!

It was a quiet fall weekend get away. The ability to wash dishes indoors on a cool weekend was a treat. The farm was beautiful and it was nice to see all of the different animals. I would recommend staying!

Peace and quiet equals “Solitude at my farm. I’m just like you. I want to camp at a quiet place in the country where it’s plenty of acres and no houses to look at and a clean bathroom and shower. Well it’s here. I’m Located in Wakefield Virginia. If you’re traveling to Virginia Beach I’m one hour away. From my farm there is a free ferry in Scotland where the ferry departs to Williamsburg just 30 minutes. At my farm I have 5 sites for tent/camping so it’s spaced appropriately apart I have 2 Rv sites totally away for their privacy and a new mini house also properly spaced away. All have a clean picnic table and a fire pit. 100 feet away you’ll find that clean bathroom, shower and a wash station for hygiene. You’ll see the love I put into this and because I love it and my prior guests love it, which means it may be right for you also. In the town of Wakefield you’ll find gas stations, dollar stores, a Value food market and if you want (to go) food we have that also. Plus it’s home to The Virginia Diner. Amenities include toilet access, a shower, trash disposal, picnic tables, and potable water. Pets are allowed, as are campfires.

We also have a fire pit to enjoy a nice fire and watch the stars at night. Down the road, you can enjoy the view of the river or visit historical Fort Knox. In addition, Beaverdam park is about 15 minutes from our location and has trails, fishing, kayaking, etc. We are about 45 minutes away from amusement park Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. If you are looking for a unique experience and appreciate history, architecture, and exquisite design, you just found your spot. First of all, the location. The cabin is located on a rural road that is a five minute drive to downtown Onancock, which offers a coffee shop, several restaurants, bakery, shops, Saturday farmers’ market, and the harbor. Chincoteague and the famous ponies are 35 minutes north, and bougie Cape Charles is 40 minutes south. When you open the door to this 300’ gem, you will step back in time to a simpler way of life. This century-old building was moved to the site and has been brought back to life, preserving the original character, while adding the creature comforts we love of today. Soaring 12 foot ceilings provide a spacious air, and the original wood interior offer charm and patina that simply cannot be manufactured. In the past, it was a barber shop and then a poker joint. This place is a design nerd’s dream, a clever combination of old, new, and vintage pieces, handmade pottery and art, with close attention paid to each chosen piece. Lace curtains and blackout blinds cover all your light preferences for peaceful sleeping. The queen bed is a high end hybrid mattress with traditional coil base and memory foam top. A giant 55” TV is directly across from the bed for cozy streaming. The modern bathroom has a vintage wall sink found on site, and terrific water pressure from a rain shower head with instant, never ending Rinnai hot water. The kitchen has an ample antique sideboard as your sink, apartment size refrigerator, induction hot plate, coffee, microwave, and combo convection toaster oven/air fryer. The marble table seats two. A comfortable down-filled loveseat adds another lounge option. You will enjoy all the artistic touches around the room. Did I mention the front porch??? It’s the perfect spot for morning coffee, afternoon wine, and evening stargazing from rocking chairs with your boo. A pretty view of a wide field is across the street and will sooth your weary soul. What’s not to love about that?

Lightwood Forest is an ancient forest of mixed beech, oak, poplar, and other hardwoods in rural Surry County, Virginia, and is some of the earliest settled land in English North America. The stream that runs through Lightwood Forest was the original southern border of the land given by Chief Powhatan to his daughter Pocahontas, and her husband John Rolfe, as a wedding gift. Their son Thomas's house was somewhere on the property or in a neighboring field. The forest is magnificent, and is an example of a rapidly dwindling ecosystem in Tidewater Virginia. There are many possible camping sites on the 110 acres. On the property stands Lightwood House, the 18th-century home of a Revolutionary War soldier and his family. The house is available for overnight stays, or as a central meeting place for campers and guests. The property is only rented to one party at a time, with exclusive use of the entire estate. The house can be viewed as a sort of time machine, but with all modern comforts and necessities. Lightwood provides lovers of history and nature the opportunity to enjoy both--either as campers or house guests. This unique house and property offers visitors a rare opportunity to escape the twenty-first century and venture into a haven of peace, quiet and solitude. Learn more about this land: Within the expansive and protected boundaries of Lightwood Forest, many delightful and secluded camping sites can be found. Choose between green meadows or woodland settings with ancient majestic oaks, stately poplars or silvery beeches and sycamores as your nearest neighbors. A well-trodden walking trail, over two miles long, meanders through this, your very own Hundred Acre Wood. Up hills and down ravines, along ancient cart paths and road beds, wander at your own pace through this beautiful forest, watching all the while for, and sharing your space with, Lightwood's very own forest denizens. Who might that be, you ask? Well, look for quite the array of bird species including woodpeckers and owls, hawks and wild turkeys, ravens and crows. You may not see them during the day, but if you look closely on the little sandy beaches that line the mossy banks of the streams that run through the property, you'll see their tiny paw prints, letting you know they were there, drinking at leisure from the clear, clean water of their protected forest home. In the depth of winter, a house on neighboring property can be glimpsed at a distance through the woods, but other than that camping sites deep within Lightwood Forest are completely secluded from any sign of civilization. The cozy and comfortable historic eighteenth-century house sleeps up to ten guests as well as up to two dog friends. All modern conveniences are available including WIFI, a six-foot jetted tub and walk-in marble shower in an expansive downstairs bathroom. Lightwood Forest is a land steeped in history. The main stream that traverses the property marked the southern boundary of the wedding gift given by Wahunsonacock, alias Chief Powhatan, upon the marriage of his favorite child, Pocahontas, to John Rolfe, in 1614. While the property seems far from civilization, the small town of Surry is only 1.5 miles away. Additionally, a short ferry ride away, across the mighty James River, are the nationally renowned historic museums of Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Historic Jamestowne. All lie along the beautiful, scenic Colonial Parkway. Lightwood is the perfect retreat for lovers of both history and nature as well as for souls in search of peace, quiet and solitude.
