A working cattle farm with beautiful Poll Hereford cattle roaming the 160-acre block. The Marne River flows down through the block with ancient indigenous canoe trees dotted along the river which flows for approx 10 months of the year. Walk to the the top of the block for 180 degree views of Eden Valley and surrounds. Your booking will give you exclusive rights to camping, so no need to worry about noisy neighbours! Canoe Trees and the Marne River Take a stroll along the river, looking for canoe trees. First Nations people of the lower Murray River formerly made large canoes from the bark of Red Gum trees. They used canoes to transport goods and move long distances along the river system. The Marne River in southeast South Australia starts below Eden Valley at an elevation of 366m and ends at an elevation of 5.06m flowing into the River Murray. The Marne River drops around 361m over its 69.5km length. https://www.acmi.net.au/works/111350--aboriginal-canoe-trees-of-the-murray/ History of Eden Valley The land of the Ngadjuri People, Traditional Owners of the Eden Valley region. South Australia’s beautiful Eden Valley, known as the garden of grapes and gums, is one of Australia’s premier cool climate wine regions characterised by its rugged beauty and varied topography. Eden Valley was named by the surveyors of the area after they found the word "Eden" carved into a tree. The beautiful rolling hills of the region create a natural diversity in mesoclimate determined by altitude, aspect and slope, which also naturally impacts the soil type. It is therefore critical to match the correct grape variety and site. Overall, the region is characterised by cooler conditions than its famous neighbour, the Barossa Valley, and as such the final stages of ripening and harvesting take place in cooler temperatures. Eden Valley wines are distinctive in their character, displaying wonderful aromatics, elegance, complexity and finesse. Eden Valley shares a proud German heritage with it's neighbour the Barossa Valley, collectively known as the Barossa region. English and German immigrants settled here in the early to mid-19th century, establishing the township in the 1860s. With a wine-making history dating back to 1847, Eden Valley is home to some of the world’s oldest Shiraz and Riesling vineyards. We are a family of 5 with 3 children who love to explore and learn about the history of the places we visit. So, we hope you enjoy this little snippet! CFS Fire Ban 2024 starts NOVEMBER 15th 2024 and ends APRIL 30th 2025 no campfires between these dates. The big, solid walls are laid with concrete by the farmer and his young son, from the materials on the property. It has recently been rewired and fully re-plumbed, all to make it safe and usable. The floorboards are all sanded and polished, and a new lick of paint has made the property fresh and inviting. The property was originally a dairy and has the original ruins of the old homesteads and dairy buildings from generations before. The property is now used for cattle, sheep, and crops, and is about 1000 acres. Potential for vineyard and with an airfield close by and a quality dirt road running along the Western boundary and a surveyed road along the northern boundary this site makes for easy walking and is within short distances to some of the best cellar doors in the Barossa. Kaiser Stuhl National Park is only a short drive away over the lookout at Mengler’s Hill and the Heyson Trail runs through the hill at the Eastern end. Permission may be needed to access other private properties adjoining, however. The space This is a Farmhouse with all the feels of a comfy homestead. The house was built approx 80 years ago by the farmer's family. It is bordered by Currency Creek, which flows with crystal-clear water from a spring all year round, and is a wonderful track to hike around and enjoy beautiful views of the inlets and creeks leading to the lower lakes. The farmhouse is surrounded by huge pine trees and gums, and there is an easy access turn-around driveway and plenty of parking. The property is only a short distance from Goolwa, Middleton, and Victor Harbor. In the future, the plans are to have a veggie garden for tenants to pick from and chickens, ducks, and small animals to associate with. There are cattle with calves and sheep in the neighboring paddocks. We have invited you to bring your dog along, but at this stage, they will have to be tethered at all times so they do not escape and interfere with stock. This is for their safety as well. The pets are not allowed inside the house.
