The best camping near Naracoorte

·

Little Naracoorte hides many subterranean treasures: The small inland town in South Australia’s Limestone Coast region is home to the state’s only UNESCO-listed site, the Naracoorte Caves. They contain internationally significant giant marsupial fossils, and although campers can’t quite pitch a tent underground, there are above-ground campsites within and near the Naracoorte Caves National Park. If you suffer from claustrophobia, don’t worry: Naracoorte town also offers wide-open attractions, including the lovely Naracoorte Swimming Lake and Ramsar Wetlands at Bool Lagoon. Naracoorte is on the Riddoch Highway and makes a handy stop on journeys between Adelaide (3.5 hours’ drive away) and Mount Gambier (one hour away). Campers can also easily head east from Naracoorte to visit the mountainous Grampians National Park or the Little Desert National Park, both in Victoria, which display completely different but equally impressive natural landscapes.
