We are a Poll Merino sheep stud and a wheat/barley cropping farm at Emu Downs in the Mid North of SA. We have resurrected this character old workers quarters which we've turned into a rustic, peaceful abode for you to enjoy. Sleeps four (double bed, single bed and old miners couch,). Bring your own bedding. There is a flushing external toilet and a bush shower (ie: a shower bag, provided). The room with the open fire can be utilised as a kitchen/living area. We've provided crockery, cutlery, glasses, kettles and a camp oven. There is running cold rainwater into the sink. Cooking can be done on the open fire, or use the small camp gas cookers. There is also a gas BBQ in the outdoor room. If you are really brave, try your hand at camp oven cooking in the campfire. There is no power, only lighting provided from a small solar panel/battery. Extra guests welcome in tents, swags or vans adjacent to the cottage. To ensure only one group of campers at a time, THE COTTAGE HAS TO BE BOOKED FIRST, then book the extra campers through the additional campsites listing. Eckert's Old Place is within an easy drive to the Clare Valley wine regions and historic Robertstown, Burra and Eudunda. Campfires welcome when not in fireban season. You can order a wheelbarrow load for $30, or bring your own. Dogs are permitted, but please understand, we are a sheep stud and need to ensure no disturbance from dogs. Great spot for a quick stay. Toilet was immaculately clean, view was gorgeous. Instructions to get to camp very clear. We couldn't find a number 4 on any trees so went a little past 3 and set up - we were the only campers. There is a bee hive active on one of the trees at the moment, but we were far enough away not to be bothered. Absolutely stunning night time sky.

Oliver and Chloe were great hosts. The area was cut and ready for us to settle in and relax. The farm location was close enough to go in and spend a great day looking around Burra. And then being far enough away from the traffic and bustle to return to our site and relax and enjoy the sunset. Lovely spot. Would definitely stay again.

Nice rolling hills to camp on, there are few flat spots and some on a slight slope. Plenty of space. Nothing significantly pretty about the place, but still nice countryside views. Area was tidy and mowed. Good amount of firewood for $25

I had a great stay and thank you to Alex for being so positive in opening up his property to motorcycle camping. I had the property to myself and found a great spot to pitch my tent. Campsite 11 had fantastic views across the valley and it was nice to sit back and watch the setting sun. I’ll definitely be planning another adventure.

Great spot to stay off grid with 6-7 individual sites on the property. Some sites are close enough together that you could stay with a group but still have your own space. Only one other caravan there when we stayed so we were very secluded and couldn’t see them directly from our site. Good size long drop toilet area with motion lighting for night use. Very clean. Hosts were friendly though we rarely saw them. $25 for a decent size container of firewood delivered to our site seemed pretty reasonable. It’s a natural area, so the sites have a small slope and you might need some extra caravan levellers pending your setup and site. Easy drive to Clare and Burra. Our dogs loved the property’s dam! Our favourite Hip Camp so far. 😊

1 night at Eckert’s Old Place

Loved our one night stay on our way to Flinders Ranges and Lake Eyre from Flinders Victoria. After a couple of nights camping in the ute, it was lovely having a loo to use and under cover cooking facilities of a bbq. We still camped in our ute but enjoyed the gorgeous old stone building to store our clothes and get changed in. The outdoor shower was just a bag warmed up in the sun. The outdoor fire was great to sit around too. We enjoyed chatting to Philip about his poll merino stud.
