The best place to see koalas up close. Mikkira Wild Koala Sanctuary is a privately owned property located just south of the coastal fishing town of Port Lincoln, near the tip of the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. Home to over 100 wild koalas, you’ll often spot them resting on the low branches of their favourite eucalyptus, the manna gum, offering a special and memorable wildlife experience. Winner of the Grey Nomad Awards – Best Freedom Stay. Camping is available throughout the winter months when the property is beautifully green. There is a large, open camping area with plenty of space to relax and unwind. Camping is closed from mid-October to mid-April due to high bushfire risk. Tours operate during this time — please get in touch if you’d like to visit. Strictly no dogs. No firewood collecting. No campfires on the ground (fires in contained fire pits are permitted). Suitable for caravans, off-road RVs and tents. Facilities include hot showers, toilets, a shelter shed, and Glamper Campers available for hire.

Set in a peaceful valley surrounded by native bushland, this 10-acre property offers the perfect balance of serenity and adventure. Just a short 10-minute drive from Port Lincoln, it feels a world away—offering hipcampers the ideal mix of seclusion and convenience. The landscape features open clearings, gentle rises, and shaded pockets beneath scattered eucalypts—perfect for pitching a tent or parking your van. Birdlife is abundant, and on still mornings, the only sound is the breeze rustling through the trees. Whether you're stargazing by the fire or watching the light shift across the valley at dusk, this is a place to slow down and truly reconnect with nature. Steeped in local history, the property was the first to be established in the area and was once used for commercial beekeeping. The original house on the site has its own unique story—it was formerly the Post Office building from Maralinga, relocated here in the 1970s.
