/ / W E L C O M E ! \ \ Retreat to relax at Chuckanut Hills Farm, a 20-acre energy-regenerative, off-grid family farm nestled at the foot of Anderson Mountain and surrounded by thousands of acres of forest.

/ / L O C A T I O N \ \ Chuckanut Hills Farm is 30 minutes south of Bellingham in the Chuckanut Mountains, the only finger of the Cascade Mountain Range that reaches all the way to the Salish Sea. For drivers on I-5, we are just 5.8 miles off the Alger Exit (# 240).

☑ We are conveniently located between Bellingham and Seattle, one hour from the Canadian border.

/ / A M E N I T I E S \ \ Our custom-built wood-fired sauna is one of the best features of the farm!

☑ A tiny cabin hosts the sauna (available by appointment only), shower, flushing toilet and a spacious deck. Restroom is open 24/7.

☑ SAUNA SESSIONS: Sauna Passes are available year-round under Extras, and upon arrival sauna users will be asked to fill out a liability release form.

/ / T H E F A R M \ \ Our farm is home to heritage breeds of poultry, sheep, barn cats, and two VERY friendly Great Pyrenees dogs that patrol the property continuously and often bark during the night to warn off predators. The forest is home to cougar, bear, coyote, beaver, bobcat, deer, raccoon, owls, eagles and other wildlife.

☑ Due to the presence of both domesticated AND wild animals, we recommend keeping food and trash locked in a closed cooler or in your vehicle.

☑ Farm dogs will bark during the night. If there are active predators in the area they will bark a lot, and for a long time! Please be sure all campers are aware of this!

/ / C A M P E R D E T A I L S \ \

☑ PETS If you are bringing your pets, there are strict requirements. Since this is a working farm, pets must remain on a leash or extended lead at all times, no exceptions. Pets are welcome in the campground area but are NOT invited up the hill into the farm area due to strict poultry cross-contamination regulations.

☑ SITES Unless you request a specific site, they are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. All the designated sites have proven equal favorites among campers.

☑ POWER ALERT The farm is completely off-grid! There are NO power hook-ups. We run the farm on regenerative solar power with a back-up generator, septic systems, and two spring-fed wells. RVs must rely on personal generator/propane power.

**RV GENERATOR QUIET TIME IS 9PM to 8AM**

☑ You may hear the property generator fire up to add power to the farm’s battery banks. We work hard to plan this for non-invasive times.

☑ WATER There are a total of four water spigots situated around the property with delicious, potable mountain spring water available to campers.

☑ PRIVACY Each site has plenty of elbow room. Spacious acreage and trees mean peaceful privacy for every camper. You may hear or see other happy campers across a field or around the campground!

☑ OUR HOME Our farmhouse sits in the center of the campground. You may be able to see it from your tent site, and you will definitely see it as you walk to the sauna!

☑ WORKING FARM This is first and foremost a working farm. You may hear a tractor, our farm vehicles, kids or ourselves talking or working, a chainsaw or a lawn mower. We do our best to be non-disruptive.

T H E A R E A

This wooded forest is part of the Puget Lowland Forest Eco-Region. This region was settled by the Saquantch Tribe, later by the Lummi tribe, and then by Westerners in the 1850s and beyond and heavily logged throughout the 1800s and 1900s.

The forest is crisscrossed by miles of obscure and little-known hiking and biking trails which are phenomenal for primitive trail runs as well as leisurely family hikes and horseback riding.

Our ongoing projects on the farm are to restore native plants, raise heritage breeds of animals and promote heirloom plant propagation.

P A C I F I C N O R T H W E S T T R A I L

Our farm is 1.9 miles from the Pacific Northwest Trail (pnt [dot] org), a stunning 1,200 mile trail that runs from Neah Bay in Washington State to Glacier National Park in Montana. The trail connects to a portion of our gravel road. We are in Zone 7 (Cascade Range) of the trail. We are happy to coordinate with hikers to pick-up or drop-off at the trail connection.

B A C K C O U N T R Y H O R S E B A C K R I D I N G

The road and trails here are well-suited for backcountry riding. The gentleman who built our farmhouse 20 years ago used to lead horseback trail riding groups off the property and across the mountains! Let us know if you are bringing a trailer and horses and we will be prepared to accommodate you in an appropriate site. We do not provide corrals. We are more than happy to add your horse manure to our compost heap!

L I F E ' S L I T T L E D E T A I L S

In the summer we sometimes hear people riding ATVs through the prolific hill trails around the area. We also occasionally hear (ourselves or a neighbor or a logging crew) chainsaws running in the summer as everyone prepares firewood for the winter, and clears overgrown roads. It’s just part of life out here!

We are naturally blessed with the seasonal pests of the woods (mosquitos, gnats, slugs), be sure to prepare your bug spray if you are coming in the summer!

C O U N T R Y C H A R M S

☑ Acme and Everson are two delightful, charming towns 30 and 45 minutes down beautiful country roads.

☑ Lake Whatcom is a twenty-minute drive away.

☑ Our farm is 20 acres surrounded by thousands of acres of logging land. Walk off the property in any direction onto obscure trails and relax in nature!

☑ Walk outside around midnight to 3AM on a cloudless night and drink in the breathtaking sweep of the Milky Way, a misty belt flung across the pitch black night sky. Planets and constellations revolve in majestic clarity.

☑ Ornithology is alive and well out here, bring your bird-spotting notebook!

☑ Reed Lake and Cain Lake are a fifteen-minute drive away or a two-mile hike down the gravel road.

☑ We are in the vicinity of some of the best mountain biking trails in the United States, and just 13 miles (28 minute drive) from famous Galbraith Mountain biking.

☑ We are 8.9 miles (24 minute drive) from the Blanchard Mountain Trailhead, where geology enthusiasts can view the famous mineral stilpnomelane outcropping uncovered by a construction crew several decades ago.

☑ Oyster Dome, Lily Lake, Whatcom Falls, Chuckanut Drive, Chuckanut Mtn Park and Samish Bay are other breath-taking trips near the farm.

☑ A connection point to the Pacific Northwest Trail is just 1.9 miles away through the forest and down our gravel road.

☑ Quartz and agate litter the logging trails around the farm, and the area is known for our rare and unique leaf fossils. We have unearthed one here on the farm while working!
