I went for a last minute getaway on my own. It was a good place for to relax and wander and pick blackberries. I loved sitting back and star gazing. I enjoyed seeing the animals and the dogs were very friendly. Kateen (host) was friendly and accommodating. I will say if I was camping with some friends I would have needed to choose a different place as we tend to stay up late talking/laughing around a campfire. At this farm quiet time is 9pm which I think is understandable with having families with children and some of the campers for rent are close together.

Cool place to camp

Pearl

Kateen was a great host. The camp and gardens are beautiful with all the amenities you could need. The shower was super cool and plenty hot. I stayed in Pearl camper and it was very cozy.

Magical forest farm

This space is filled with hidden gems throughout the camp. Beautiful forest walk with ceremony/meditative spaces. The community kitchen is wonderful!! And the trailers just so cozy, even without electricity, it felt like glamping. Hope to stay again with more time to truly be with the beauty!

Cotton Cabin

What a wonderful stay-loved the garden, foot soak, tea making and chill atmosphere. Host was friendly-really like their two dogs. Cabin was perfect for a one night stay on our way to the Olympics. Only suggestion would be to add some lighting-the two small push button lights needed new batteries. Made packing up in the early am a little difficult.

An absolutely lovely stay with Kateen at Compass Rose. The grounds were wonderful, the community kitchen was well equipped and the farm was so peaceful. My husband and kids had a wonderful time exploring the gardens and the forest grounds. Kateen was a joy to meet. Her natural fibers, yarn, honey and other goods were wonderful. As a sweater designer, it was great to nerd out looking at yarns, seeing the working studio and meeting the Icelandic sheep! Highly recommend this tranquil space. This is a spot you can show up with minimal supplies to camp and be set up well!

We loved Compass Rose and cant wait to go back. Its a cute, peaceful and thoughtfully maintained farm with more to look at than you could in a weekend. Cant wait to attend a workshop or stay in another one of the retro trailers.

This was the most magical HipCamp stay! We loved it so much. The host was very nice and the property is unbelievable. Will definitely be making a trip back just to stay here again!

The grounds were lovely and it was clear that the general ethos of those on the property was inspiring. I appreciated the ginormous kitchen and extensive library. Overall this worked for a last minute place to sleep on a holiday weekend. It was a bit cold for my taste, some warmer bedding and lighting would have been a nice touch in the camper. I didn’t realize the camper sink, stove, and electricity were out or that it was just a couple feet from the others. Very squeaky bed and a bit musty. The communication was also significantly slower and less attentive than what I’m used to on these apps, which made me unsure of whether or not it was okay to show up, I didn’t get any responses from the host regarding the arrival times I wrote about. Overall I would say this place has great opportunity and I’m sure works well for most people.

We love car camping at Compass Rose Farms! This was our second visit and it was even better as we knew what experience awaited us. Kateen has created a truly magical space here and all of the other campers were so delightful and kind to engage with. This place draws you in and makes you feel like you are at a home away from home.

I'm from a big city and while I have backpacked and camped with friends, this was my first time tenting alone, so read this review with that context. I spent two nights - Alder - tent site. Pros: the host met me and gave me a tour, it was easy to find, pull in and park. The outdoor shower was fine - decently warm with clear instructions. There were two bathrooms/outhouses - and they were great, zero issues. Next door to it is a sink station with a mirror, towel, soap and running water. The kitchen was nice - as pictured. I made my overnight oats each day and kept my stuff in the frig, no issues. End of aug for 2 nights - a sat and sunday night. The first night there were a few others but I think on the second night, I was the only one -I'm pretty sure I was, which I hadn't planned for and totally freaked me out (this is on me - for my 1st experience I should have gone to a busy campground). My opinion is mixed because it wasn't a place that I wanted to hang around - it's a place to sleep, prep food, maybe shower and go about your day. I think the pics misled me a bit - they did have a recent large rain - but aside from the kitchen, the common areas were indoor/outdoor - so damp and not that clean. The tub was for feet only (cold water) and the other areas were just not that inviting - so set expectations. Had i been with friends and intended to use it for sleep and up and out, would have been great.

We stayed for 2 nights in the Round House. It was just what we needed. Located near planned adventures in Olympic National Park, but had we known how lovely the farm would be, we would have spent more time on site. This place is lovingly cared for and thoughtfully designed. It’s a gem. We give it our highest recommendation and hope to return one day.

The farm is a beautiful and welcoming space. The camper was just what we needed, the shower was amazing, and we really enjoyed being able to walk the area and see the garden and animals during our short stay. We would definitely stay again.

Pearl

We stayed in Vintage trailer Pearl, which was ok, but it would have been good to be told in advance 'no electrical, no water' in the trailer what the wi-fi was and that there was bedding in the lodging; but we slept well enough and were lucky enough to have brought a flashlight, and the the resources, comfort and the organization of the kitchen, library, shower, was great, and mostly just relaxing in a place where the owners/operators were so amazing knolwedgeable from gardening to sheep to wool to permaculture, and kept the whole 40 acres in beautiful and sustainable upkeep, as natural as possible. We very look very much to coming back and taking the full tour, taking classes and spending more time in such a peaceful, pleasant and creative place.

Kateen was a warm and gracious host. Her space is truly magical-from the fresh flowers and greens to the homemade herbal teas and library of healing books and earth-centered writings. She anticipates her guests every need from community kitchen to bathhouse to massage and meditation spaces. Def. Recommend.

We camped here for one night with a toddler and Kateen made us feel very welcome, pointing out things to watch out for with the 2-year-old as she gave us the tour of the land. The kid had a great time visiting the ducks, setting up the tent at the dedicated sawdust pad, climbing in and out of the game room trailer, and reading books and making tea. It’s very peaceful. You can hear the animals and catch some headlights at night but nothing very distracting. I would love to visit again to really explore the agricultural design, use the foot soak, pick some vegetables… this place has so much to offer. The permaculture and development of communal space is incredibly thoughtful. Thank you Kateen.

Our favorite memory of Washington

Memories were created that we will never forget! We stayed in 4 other homes booked through AirBNB during our Washington trip, but Compass Rose Farms is the standout! Kateen welcomed us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the land. We instantly fell in love with the simple life, abundant flowers, vegetable gardens and all of the little hidden surprises as we wandered the farm. We did the add-on of picking vegetables from the garden for our dinner. We prepared them in the shared kitchen area and thoroughly enjoyed the fresh, organic dinner. The pots, pans and utensils were provided, but you'll need to bring your own butter, spices, etc. The Round House was adorable and decorated in a lovely cottage theme. The mattress and pillows were comfortable and provided a restful night of sleep. When we awoke, we had hot tea that was prepared using herbs off the farm. We took a quiet morning stroll through the woods and garden areas sipping our herbal teas and enjoying the peaceful foggy morning with Mongo (the farm dog) walking beside us. We fell in love with Mongo. He was sweet and well behaved and gave us a sense of security on our walk in the woods. We also enjoyed plucking berries and grapes off the vines for snacks. There was a small gift shop to browse and take home a special souvenir or two. Kateen welcomes you and then leaves you on your own to enjoy everything she offers. When our time there ended, we both hated to end our "Peace Trance".

Unique experience

Wonderful unique hipcamp. Loved picking greens and fruits from the garden. The community areas were thoughtfully arranged and the walking trails were great. I was definitely inspired to make good food. Some info that I thought would be useful for others to know: unless you have a van spot, you will be walking your things in (not far, just something to consider). Vintage trailer was adorable and very comfy to stay in. The sites are close together. The tent sites offer most privacy. Can't wait to go back!

Nice, but pricey

Compass Rose is a nice place to hang out. There's a full kitchen available to campers as well as a library, labyrinth, gift shop with farm made products and even a yurt with a massage table in it. If you've got time to enjoy all this, I'd recommend a visit. We were looking for a quick and cheap place to pitch our tent overnight. The spot we got was on bumpy grass that was very wet by morning. When the Hip Camp fees and taxes were included it was $62, which felt pretty steep.
