Welcome to Sarabah Stud: A Serene Creek-Side Escape Nestled within a stunning cattle and farming property, Sarabah Stud offers a quintessential Australian bush camping experience. Located just 40 minutes from the Gold Coast and an hour from Brisbane CBD, our property is the perfect retreat for families, couples and friends seeking a quiet, nature-focused getaway. The Natural Experience Immerse yourself in our thriving local ecosystem. The property is a haven for native wildlife; keep a quiet eye out for our resident platypus in the creek, or spot kangaroos, wallabies, turtles, and native birdlife throughout the day. As the sun sets, the bush comes alive with the sounds of owls, possums, bandicoots and the crackle of a campfire (permitted in designated firepits, subject to local restrictions). Creek-Side Relaxation Cool off in our dedicated swimming hole—a beautiful, natural spot perfect for a refreshing dip. To protect our delicate aquatic environment and our resident platypus, please note that fishing is not permitted on the property. Facilities & Access We aim to provide a secluded and comfortable yet authentic "off-grid" feel: Amenities: Every campsite is equipped with its own dedicated toilet for your convenience. Please remember to bring your own toilet paper. Navigation: We are well-signed and easily found on Google Maps. We recommend loading your maps while you still have mobile service to ensure a smooth arrival. Vehicle Access: The property is 2WD accessible in dry weather; however, we recommend 4WD during wet conditions - mainly for Stony Camp access. Platypus Hole exceeds Expectations!

We stayed here for 2 nights so that we could explore lamington national park, we are big nature lovers and were very keen to go animal spotting up there. Of course platypus hole sounded enticing but we had it in the back of our minds that there was a probably a good chance we wouldn’t be lucky enough to see a platypus at our campsite. Oh how we were wrong! After setting up the tent and getting the fire going, we sat at the edge of the creek going on about how cool it would be if we saw a wild platypus. A few seconds later there it was! It was swimming about and hunting a few metres out. It hung around for hours that afternoon, we even saw a second make an appearance. We were all pretty happy with ourselves for choosing this place. Not only the platypus, but if you’re into birds this is the site. The trees at the campsite were full of bird life, we spotted superb fairywrens, many different kinds of honey eaters, red browed firetails, yellow robins, golden whistler, rose robins, brown cuckoo doves, azure kingfishers diving in the creek and many more- without even much effort. We saw more variety of birds at the site than in the national park! Not to mention the beautiful cattle in the paddock and their little calves. Platypus hole was an amazing experience, perfect if you’re an animal lover and want a little bit of a more private site to relax. Thank you for having us!

3 nights at the Lower Platypus site. As usual it was perfect! Well manicured, neat and tidy. Wonderful to see Jacquie (who is leaving :( ) highly recommend this whole Hipcamp but in particular Lower Platypus with its wonderful view of Canungra Creek. Got to see Platypus this time.

Great site, creek was beautiful and a really good base to explore O’rilies guest house and the national park. We stayed on the pumpkin patch site with two vans. The site had a fire pit and toilet. Would definitely recommend this place

Lovely peaceful spot next to the river. Great swimming hole, that would be awesome in summer. Each site has a fire pit, if you are looking for a lazy, peaceful weekend look no further.

Sarabah Stud Camping, the Platypus Hole, was a great spot to camp. It was quite private as it was down a bit of a hollow and right on the creek. Best toilet for a porta-loo and I like that it was one/site. Well located just out of Canungra and about an hour from Lamington NP for great hiking.

Magical Solitude by the Creek

I came to the Platypus Hole to escape distractions and find solitude. It ended up delivering beyond expectations. On arrival, you're greeted by a beautiful natural archway framing the campsite, the creek glittering in the background, fig trees overhead alive with finches, sparrows and whipbirds. It feels otherworldly, almost magical. The creek runs right to the edge of the site. I watched cormorants, ducks, tortoises and large fish throughout my stay. Didn't catch the platypus, but the highlight was an unexpected visit from a bandicoot who bounded over and stopped right near me. Unforgettable. Facilities include a private port-a-loo exclusive to your site, more than adequate. Host Nathan checked in shortly after I arrived to see if I needed help, then left me completely to myself, perfect for someone wanting peace and solitude. No showers is fine for a solo retreat but worth considering if sharing with others. Rain also turns the ground muddy if it keeps up. Neither is a dealbreaker, just worth knowing. Would come back without hesitation.

The Mulberry Tree
What a magical spot! We booked the Mulberry Tree campsite but pulled into the wrong site when we arrived (our silly mistake as the sites are all well signed). Robert came and let us know but kindly gave us the option of staying in the spot we had stopped in. He was very friendly and gave us some info about the property before heading off. There is a beautiful big creek running through the property with plenty of turtles and a swimming hole. Lots of friendly cattle, too. So quiet and picturesque. Thanks for having us.

Lower platypus was an ideal spot for a weekend away for my daughters and I. Clean and quiet with the added bonus of toilets on site. The host came and introduced himself and let us know he’s there if we needed anything. We’ll definitely be back.
