The Pathfinder Tipi is a peaceful hermitage which ideally accommodates one camper, two in side-by-side cots. There is a hot/cold handwashing sink inside and a seating area with chiminea outside for campfires when the weather permits. We provide the cozy cot/s and linens, tea, coffee, and mineral-rich drinking water from the well.
Our homestead Camp Temenōs sits on the north edge of the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve in California's Mojave Desert with a trail from our back gate into the preserve. (Guided hikes and topo maps available upon request) We're 9 miles from Yucca Valley, 5 miles from charming Pioneertown and the legendary music venue Pappy & Harriet's, a 30 min drive to Joshua Tree National Park, an 18 min drive to the Integratron & Giant Rock, and a few minutes' walk away from sweet, complete solitude in a true desert wildland full of riparian corridors and boulder-rich canyons. The desert truly is alive and our neighborhood makes a great basecamp.
Our family home is in the center of a 1.25 acre property and there are 3 cultivated spaces available for rent in the corners of the acre (the 1950 Spartan Mansion, the large tipi and the small tipi) as well as several good tent spots and an RV electric hookup site (no septic).
We have a private, heated bathroom/showerhouse, a hot & cold outdoor shower, an outdoor kitchen with fridge, hot/cold dishwashing sink and campstove and several communal spaces on the property to enjoy a fire, grill, sit, contemplate... Temenos means sanctuary. We hope that you will enjoy the restorative sanctuary we are working on creating here.

The vibe at Pathfinder Tipi @ Camp Temenōs
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
The Pathfinder Tipi was great! Karen and Chris have a wonderful setup. The place was relatively easy to find and the tipi was definitely spacious enough for two people and our pup. Karen made a great breakfast for us and the other guests that quite exceeded the "continental breakfast" we were expecting. They were both lovely hosts. We would definitely stay there again!
Karen and Chris (and their adorable daughter Zia) are amazing hosts! We arrived around 3/4 pm on Saturday and they showed us around their property and made us feel very much at home. We stayed in the smaller of the 2 tipis and it was so warm and inviting. Given that the temp drops drastically at night, our cots had heated mats and heated blankets. We also had a chimenea to sit by at night. We were able to cook the food we brought because they have an outdoor kitchen and grill. They also have a really nice table to sit at that is lit by candles and Christmas type lights. There is an indoor bathroom shower that has everything you would need including towels. It was a lovely experience and I highly recommend it! Such good people and a really welcoming environment!. So beautiful!
I had such a great and pleasant first Hipcamp experience at Camp Temenos. I was greeted and shown around the property when I arrived by Karen and her lovely daughter. There’s a kitchen/dining space with a fridge, sink, dishes and utensils, a table and bar stools, and both a gas and charcoal grill for you to use. There’s also a fully equipped bathroom as well. I actually brought a sleeping bag and chairs but didn’t end up using anything because everything was provided. The tipi had a cozy ‘bed’ (2 cots that were put together with heated mattress pads and heated blanket) that kept me warm in the lower 30 degree weather. There were also electric plugs, a sink, kettle and coffee, and a small lantern that provided ambient light at night. It actually snowed for a little in the morning as well and it was a great moment. My only regret was only being able to stay here for one night! I will definitely be back so I can explore around :)
We had a fantastic experience at Camp Temenos and it was everything we could imagine and more. The tipi and surroundings were quaint and very homey. Karen and Chris were also great hosts - they made our entire experience so easy and comfortable. Our favorite things:
- Attention to detail
- Well-stocked kitchen, bathroom, tipi and chiminea
- Tasty breakfast
- Warm tipi and bathroom
We stayed at the smaller tipi, but it was more than enough (can't imagine how comfy the large tipi is).
Thanks Karen & Chris!
One of our most favorite family vacations. Such a beautiful spot that is close to Pioneertown, Pappy and Harriet’s, Frontier Coffee and vintage shops but also situated among wide open spaces of joshua trees, huge rock piles for bouldering and Big Bear. Amazing hosts who have thought of everything and are super accommodating. The teepee was awesome...our kids thought it was a great adventure. We will definitely be back as this was one of our most favorite vacations.
We loved our stay here! Karen, Chris and Zia were lovely and very welcoming. Their instructions to find the property were right on and we had no trouble finding the place. The Tipi is a perfect balance of comfort and being outdoors., complete with stargazing. The electric blankets on the cot were amazing—we were so cozy! Definitely recommend and will be back!
