Our homestead Camp Temenōs sits on the north edge of the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve in California's Mojave Desert with a trail from our back gate into the preserve. (Guided hikes and topo maps available upon request) We're 9 miles from Yucca Valley, 5 miles from charming Pioneertown and the legendary music venue Pappy & Harriet's, a 30 min drive to Joshua Tree National Park, an 18 min drive to the Integratron & Giant Rock, and a few minutes' walk away from sweet, complete solitude in a true desert wildland full of riparian corridors and boulder-rich canyons. The desert truly is alive and our neighborhood makes a great basecamp.

Our family home is in the center of a 1.25 acre property and there are 3 cultivated spaces available for rent in the corners of the acre (the 1950 Spartan Mansion, the large tipi and the small tipi) as well as several good tent spots and an RV electric hookup site (no septic).

We have a private, heated bathroom/showerhouse, a hot & cold outdoor shower, an outdoor kitchen with fridge, hot/cold dishwashing sink and campstove and several communal spaces on the property to enjoy a fire, grill, sit, contemplate... Temenos means sanctuary. We hope that you will enjoy the restorative sanctuary we are working on creating here.

We were 3 people and 2 dogs staying in the Grand Tipi on a very cold 27-degree Winter night with over a foot of snow in Pioneertown. It was a magical and special experience. There are Joshua Trees right outside the door to the tipi, and it was incredible to see snow on them! Karen was so nice, and the site she created is so unique with incredible attention to detail. The Grand Tipi is very large and spacious inside. The king-size bed is so comfortable, and our 3rd camper slept on a smaller cot. There is also a comfortable couch near the chimenea fireplace. We burned the fireplace to try to stay warm on such a cold night, and the ambience was beautiful. We heard owls and coyotes outside at night too. Very cool! This tipi would definitely sleep 5 people, if you wanted! There is a sink with running water inside the tipi. There is another tipi (the Pathfinder Tipi) on the property as well as a 1950s Spartan trailer, but there was plenty of separation, and we felt that we had our privacy. There is a private, outdoor heated bathroom/showerhouse, a hot & cold outdoor shower, as well as an outdoor kitchen with fridge, hot/cold dishwashing sink. The bathroom was very clean, and had cute, eclectic decor. The outdoor kitchen/dining area was also clean and had a fun, eclectic vibe. We loved that Karen and Chris welcomed our dogs. They had never seen snow before! So it was quite a fun visit.

We absolutely loved our stay in the Grand Tipi! It was spacious and very comfortable for 3 people. You could easily have 4 or 5 sleep in there. The king-size bed was beautiful and comfortable! Our dog Zelda in the doorway of the Tipi. Directly outside you can see Joshua Trees with snow on them. Our dogs had never seen snow before! We love the cute eclectic outdoor covered lounging and eating area, and we love that Karen and Chris allow dogs.

Our getaway @ Camp Temenos was nothing short of perfect. We truly could not have asked for anything better. The property and grounds are lovely, the location is perfectly central to some of the best activities and destinations in the area, the tipi itself was by and far more impressive than we could have imagined, the outdoor shower, bathroom facilities, outdoor kitchen and dining area, etc. etc. were just perfect. Last, but not least, the hosts were amazing. Karen and Chris (and their lovely daughter) could not have been more accommodating from the moment we booked until the moment we said goodbye. They answered all of our initial questions in a timely manner so we could prepare accordingly, they had refreshments waiting for us upon arrival, actively checked in to see if we needed anything, and we woke up to a beautiful breakfast spread after a peaceful evening under the stars.

Selfishly, I want to keep this little gem a secret, but would love others to have the chance to experience this perfect little oasis as well. If you're looking for a picturesque desert getaway with incredible hosts (who you hardly know are there, but are a knock away if you need anything at all), I would definitely recommend making a visit to Karen and Chris' oasis @ Camp Temenos!

We're already looking forward to our next trip!

You couldn't asked for a better weekend than the one spent here in the Large Tipi at Camp Temenõs. This place has everything you need. The location is a dream right near Pappy + Harriet's, the National Park and the down town area. The tipi is fully equipped for everything four people could need, with running water, electricity, wifi and a fully stocked kitchen. There's also a communal out door kitchen with a BBQ that we used to grill up dinner. Full bathroom with a shower filled with local handmade toiletries and a beautiful out door shower as well. Not to mention a personal camp fire set up for each site. I can't say enough how warm, welcoming and how comfortable Karen and Chris have made our stay here at Camp Temenõs. The four of us had the best time just hanging out by the fire, talking and making food together and we can't wait to come back!

We had such a great time in the large tipi at Camp Temenos! Karen & Chris have clearly put a lot of love into their property and we couldn't have asked for more. The tipi was large and full of every amenity we could have asked for. The kitchen was stocked with all the tools we needed to cook a delicious meal, and as a bonus, the weather was perfect. It's always the little things that make the difference and they really went out of their way to make us feel at home. Can't wait to come back again!

We had an amazing time and will recommend Camp Temenos to everyone we can. Karen and Chris did everything they could have to welcome us and make us feel at home. The spaces we stayed in were immaculate (both the Large Tipi and 1950 Spartan). The small touches throughout the property, both inside the spaces and outside, were definitely filled with love. We will be back!

Had a lovely weekend staying in the large tipi at Camp Temenos! Karen and Chris were amazing, providing detailed instructions and making us feel warm and welcome. The property had this rustic charm and our hosts had all the basic cooking supplies/cold drinks in the fridge/coffee and fruits in the morning. My favorite part was the outdoor patio kitchen. Wonderful stay, can't wait to come back.

Chris and Karen were wonderful hosts! We were greeted by Chris and he gave us a tour of the camp and the large tipi where we were staying. I surprised my boyfriend by planning this trip and I was so excited for this experience. It far surpassed my expectations! The landscape is absolutely gorgeous. Even though this week in August was really hot, the evening and night temperatures were perfect. The large tipi was amazing. So comfortable and full of everything we needed. The tipi, the entire camp and the bathrooms were well though out, super clean and decorated so nicely. Great attention to detail! The night sky was perfect for stargazing! We were able to cook in the tipi on the camp stove and had some really wonderful meals. I would highly recommend this spot for people who want a relaxing experience in the beautiful and peaceful desert! Thanks you Karen and Chris for a great weekend!

Karen and Chris were so hospitable and kind. Their home and land is lovely. I highly recommend.

The tipi is beautiful and well stocked. We really enjoyed our time here. The next day breakfast spread from the farmer's market was a fantastic touch! I want to keep this place a secret between my friends!

***TIP***: Stay more than one night. You're going to want to! Also, READ THE DIRECTIONS how to get there! Don't just type in the address into Google maps. We didn't and ended up going on a sand road adventure. You'll see the tipi and airstream camper from the road.

We celebrated our 24th Anniversary & my husbands birthday at Camp Temenos, it was a perfect get away! Chris & Karen were so accommodating and have a beautiful home. The surrounding rocks and hills are breathtaking and staying in the Tipi was magical. We were greeted by Lola, a sweet Lab mix who announced our arrival. We also checked out the Integretron sound bath which was really relaxing and interesting. Will definitely go back when we can spend more time exploring Joshua Tree and Rimrock! Thank you so much.
