Imported from Mongolia and nestled in nature at the edge of an open field, our pair of yurts ("gers" in Mongolian) are as authentic as they come. Many yurts are made to LOOK like traditional Mongolian dwellings, but ours are the real thing—from the hand-painted door and sealed wood platform floors to the traditional rugs and furnishings. (Your host spent two years living in Mongolia!) Rent one yurt to sleep 4, or both to sleep 8. Each has a full-size mattress, a futon and a table + chairs.
INSIDE THE GERS
A stay in the yurts is a wonderful “glamping” experience. Your dwelling is beautifully furnished and provides a super-comfortable night’s sleep—no "roughing it" required. There is electricity to the yurts so you'll have ample lighting, fans for hot summer weather, interior heating for cooler nights, and even your morning coffee (coffee maker provided). Remove the top flap for airflow and a view up to the stars on clear nights. There is no plumbing in either structure.
Instead, we provide a water barrel and a smaller potable water container for drinking water and portable outdoor bathrooms are located nearby.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Trees, flowers, and open, grassy spaces make for your own big, natural playground just outside the yurts. Plenty of activities for your family. Play catch or kick the soccer ball around the open field and make use of the provided Cornhole set, Bocci balls, or croquet set. Or stroll the grounds to identify native flora and fauna. There’s even an indoor basketball court and small bouldering wall in our metal shed that you’re free to use—great for a rainy day.
Both yurts share a common area with a picnic table, fire pit, and a propane BBQ unit that includes a side burner for cooking. Please bring your own pots, pans, plates, utensils, and, if you’d like, firewood.
We live about a hundred yards away from the yurts, and our two friendly yellow lab dogs may greet you when you arrive. You can check yourself in without problem. We will probably stop by to say hi and make sure you are comfortably settled in and have everything you need. Feel free to let us know if you have any questions during your stay.
Located just 30 minutes from Vancouver and less than an hour from Portland, our yurts are the perfect away-from-it-all escape outside the city. Once you're here, we're just a short distance (about 1/2 mile) from the Lewis River and the Haapa Park Boat Launch—great for fishing or just hanging out riverside and skipping rocks. We're about 3 miles from the Cedar Creek Gristmill, which features a picturesque covered bridge and—when it is open—tours of the gristmill and the flour/cornmeal making process.
Or drive just a short distance to Mount St Helens and take a hike to explore the Ape Caves, which were created by lava flowing down the mountainside.
The area boasts some great hiking, fishing and overall enjoyment of the outdoors.
