Old rag base camp
John is such a kind and generous host, and his campsite had everything we were looking for (picnic table, fire pit, toilet, handwashing station, potable water). This is a perfect spot for anyone looking to get an early start on Old Rag and beat the heat/crowds-- you're an easy (and beautiful) 20 minute drive away from the trailhead parking lot. The site is also super convenient to several local breweries/wineries for a post-hike beer, cornhole, or live music. Thanks again, John, and we'll see you when we come back to hike White Oak Canyon!
This was our first hipcamp experience and we were very pleased. John and Jen are very accommodating; they have thought of everything. They are very considerate of their guests and campers and offer lots of cool perks. The outdoor space is very comfortable and well groomed. Fresh Chicken eggs and firewood are a bonus.
Beautiful place, awesome host
10/10! The place is so peaceful with tranquility. John is also an AMAZING host. He even offered fresh eggs from his coop! Also, he has a flame thrower so that was very cool. The place has a little pond with koi fish, and overall, it feels well kept but also true to its natural space. The bathroom was very clean as well. Highly recommend staying here. It was better than any true campground. We loved it!
Great host and spacious campsite!
Upon our arrival, John greeted us and gave us a tour around the beautiful pond and trails in the woods where two of the campsites are located. We booked the “little paradise” which is closer to the water but the other campsite is very nice too with same set up. It would be also great to book as a group and reserve the whole area to yourselves. Little peddleboat in the pond is a plus. John provided us with firewoods plenty for 1 night which was super nice of him. Campsite comes with fire ring with grill, picnic table. You need to park your car near the pond but it’s not too far to campsite. We camped there for Old Rag hike early next morning and it only took 20min to Old Rag Parking lot! Overall, very pleasant stay, highly recommend!
