Our property is 10-15 minutes west of Carlton, Oregon, nestled in the foothills of the coastal range. We own 62 acres, 17 of which are planted as vineyard. On the property we have our house, a winery, and a tasting room.
Be prepared to drive up 2 miles of gravel road with a short but steep hill. You will likely need good skills backing up to get into position.
I have 2 spots for RVs and a variety of locations for tent camping. Please let me know which you will do so that I can plan appropriately.
Also note, this is a working farm and we have crews here nearly everyday to work in the vineyard. Please be respectful of the crew.
Update as we approach harvest: Fall is harvest time in the vineyard! With this we will be limiting our camping, specifically RVs and trailers. Normally we can fit 2, but I will be limiting it down to just 1 and only for 1 night at a time. Please reach out before booking if you are camping in an RV or trailer.
Also, the birds become a problem for us in fall. To help repel them from the vineyard, we use a bird noise maker. It goes through a series of bird calls to scare them away from the grapes. I mention it because it is loud in some spots around the property and it goes off regularly from dawn to dusk. It is usually on for about 6 weeks before harvest.
About the winery:
Chris James Cellars is a family owned and operated vineyard and winery that produces unique and interesting wines in Carlton, Oregon. The vineyard was planted in 2012, with additional blocks planted each year since. In 2015 we produced our first lots of Pinor Noir and Sauvignon Blanc and have since expanded our wine selection to offer hand-crafted lots of Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Dolcetto, Lagrein and more. The tasting room is open Friday through Sunday, 12pm-5pm and by appointment. Please visit our website to schedule a tasting (chrisjamescellars dot com).

Our host Beth had us park in the vineyard site so we had fantastic views of the entire vineyard and surrounding hills. Very private compared to being parked near the tasting room. We could walk around the property at leisure. The vineyard site requires backing up about 100 yards but it is straight and not difficult. The vineyard is about 20 minutes from town and very near many other wineries in the area.
What a beautiful place to stay! We loved it, especially the beautiful views. We will definitely be back!
we had a very very lovely time so beautiful lovely excellent wines Bethany was wonderful we had a really lovely time and we'll be back soon thank you

Bethany was super accommodating And awesome. We brought a baby to tent camp and she helped us figure out exactly how to make it a fun easy stay. We got there around 4:30, just in time for a wine tasting, and then took a walk through the vineyard before we had a little foil wrapped dinner on our grill. When the sunset the rolling hills in the distance turned a beautiful blue color. And the star gazing is NO JOKE!!! We saw satellites, constellations, and even wished upon a shooting star.
Ps the wine is also spectacular. Recommend the 2018 sauv Blanc as a scrumptious summer quencher.

Had a wonderful time wine tasting at the Chris James tasting room and then camping in the meadow below the vineyard. Beautiful views, lovely tasting deck that you can hang out on all evening. Very peaceful and relaxing. Highly recommend!

Exceeded our expectations. Beth was super friendly, easy communication and when we arrived, let us pick the spot that would work best for our group. The tasting room patio had a lovely view and it was a nice way to end our day before heading back to our site. Could see how this could be less private during peak season given you’re camping on the grounds of a working vineyard and could be hot since there’s no shade. There is a flush toilet and sink in the field that’s about 5 mins away. Location is great for checking out other wineries in the area.
