The Rainier Retreat
When we arrived, there were no additional instructions and only a closed gate with a sign that said “Do Not Touch” (implying an electrical fence). We tried to message the host, but had no cell service. We sat a while in the drive way waiting, and eventually went back into town. We finally got cell service and the host messaged back that we could just open the gate. There was an outhouse, a water hook-up, and an electrical box. Otherwise, there isn’t much to it. There were stumps and logs in the yard that were in the way while I was trying to park the camper.

This is a very lovely lot that gives you electric, water and toilet, we did enjoy a nice night there! It is so close to national park so we don't need to worry about getting up too early. If you are using at&t, there might be no mobile data (we have starlink which is fine), overall it is a excellent place for car camping!

It was nice to have a spot for the night near the park, but we wish we stayed somewhere else. I don’t consider myself picky at all, but when checking in we had little information and the gate of entry literally has signs that say “do not touch.” Not the biggest deal but kind of misleading haha. There’s lots of potential here, some specific parking spots and designated tent/ hang out spots could be nice. We woke up to construction happening in two of the neighbor’s yards and wish we just did dispersed camping rather than trying to get some amenities for a night!

Had a lovely time on Katie's land. It was well maintained and easy to find, and very close to the Paradise entrance to the park. The bathroom had been freshly cleaned. Very easy. 10/10

A nice spot. We arrive really late at night and were slightly confused on the entrance as it was fenced off with a chain. We made our way in. It is not well lit at night. The space is a huge lot. The grass and weeds are very overgrown. The fence around the property is not quite complete. There was a picnic table and spot to have a fire. If we were tent camping I’m not sure there would have been a great spot for a tent honestly. It’s definitely more for RV or car camping. We car camped and it was fine. For the price I don’t think the value was there for one night. If you had an RV I could see it being worth it because you could hook up to power and there was water. You could hear the road at night but it wasn’t too bad honestly. The port-a potty was a nice edition and really why we booked the site. The convenience of the distance to the entrance of the park is obviously what makes this place and that’s what you’re paying for.

We felt fooled into staying at this so-called hip camp. The only thing intentionally done for hip campers was the outhouse. Besides that, it is a project that has started and we paid to stay among the mess.
We are all for supporting people in their hip camp endeavors, but this needs some work. The heaps of wood piles and overgrown grass were in the least bit welcoming. The only spot to stand and put chairs was on the gravel because it was so overgrown. If you stroll through the neighborhood you will notice intentional Rv spots where an effort has been made to welcome guests.
There is an electrical cable from the power box running to the shed laying on the ground. Not ideal to see when you have children exploring the area. Shouldn’t this be buried?
There is NO address listed anywhere on the property. All the other properties clearly had their address posted.
Also, ONE trash bin? We were here for a week. It filled up quickly.
We received zero communication from the host once we arrived. Again, the intentional hip camp vibe was not there. We had been in contact prior to and she was helpful.
We would not be this frustrated with our stay had we known the state of it prior to booking and paid accordingly given the state it’s in.

We only spent a short night here but it was great. We were so thankful to find the location when another location nearby fell under evacuation orders leaving us in a campervan with our boys and no lodging.
This location was super close to the park entrance, it's location off the main road made it quiet and there was plenty of room for the 4 of us. The port-a-potty was greatly appreciaed.

Electric, clean porta potty. Nice little spot and works well in a pinch. Not super private/secluded but close enough to Rainier. Best kind of host - effective communication but leaves you alone when needed:) and very welcoming and friendly - appreciate that! Would definitely recommend. Thanks again.

It is very close to the National Park, which is great! It is a very warm spot with no shades.
The first day/night we stayed, there was a lot of noise from cars driving fast on the roads surrounding the property. Next day/night was better.
We couldn´t find the dumpster for the trash.
Only because of how close it is to the park, will we recommend it.

Overall, it was a decent experience. If you are tent camping, I would not recommend it as the space allotted was not great even with great sleeping pads. It’s in a very nice area but right off the road and there is a lot of road noise. We arrived very late and could hardly see where we were going. A neighbor was incredibly loud past midnight making it hard to sleep on top of all the loud car noises. Additionally, the price was steep for what it was. It does have a very nice porta potty which is a plus in addition to its proximity to the national park.

Great place if you have an RV, for tent camping, not so much. There was a lovely gravel drive way that had hookups, water, and electricity. The "yard" side was a bit of a wild area with no set area for a tent or fire pit. There was nothing to mark the site as "The Rainier Retreat" so we weren't sure if we were in the right spot. I contacted the hostess and never heard back from her.
A few side bars for the site:
* There was no trash can, no did we get information on what do to with the trash.
* The next door neighbor has very bright lights on the side of their house and they stay on all night. Great to see to go to the bathroom at night, not so great to sleep with.
A few suggestions:
1) put up a welcome to "The Rainier Retreat" sign. That way your guests will know they are in the right place. It felt very awkward entering the site in a neighborhood.
2) Clean up the side area so there are two marked tent spaces and a secure fire pit. This way people will know where to set their tents and enjoy a camp fire.
3) Have a trash can, bear locker, something that lets your guests know where to put the trash.
At the end of the stay, we appreciated the quiet of the site and how close it was to the park.

Easy spot for us to pull in our big RV and setup! We had 30amp, water and TONS of firewood to use. We spent the day at Mt Rainier NP and had an easy drive back to this spot after. Got to enjoy local restaurants as well, that were 5 min away. It’s in a neighborhood but no one bothered us and we didn’t bother them.

The campsite is an undeveloped plot in a new bougie housing development: brand new houses with snow-covered city cars looking very out of place next to Mt. Rainier. We were not looking for much, just a place to pitch a tent and sleep, and this site provided that.

Katie’s place is so convenient to Ranier National Park. It was a great place to slee for the night. The toilet was clean and fresh. There was running water and electricity. Great spot for semi-primitive camping near Ranier!

overall, we had a great stay at the rainier retreat! this property is perfect to stay at because of its close proximity to mt. rainier, and we definitely took advantage of this. the property was however not as private as expected - it’s nestled in a small community of summer cabins and other similar properties, and there is little barrier between the next door property as well as being right on a road. there was a picnic table, outhouse, and large fire pit for use, and the place was very easy to find by putting the address into google maps. we did have a lovely stay!

Rainier Retreat is super convenient to the Nisqually entrance to Mount Rainier. The neighborhood is quiet and forested with privacy fences between the lots. It felt very safe.
The porta-potty was amazingly clean! I'm afraid that any we use in the future won't compare, LOL.
There's a shed in back, and we backed our van right up to it on a fairly level spot in the driveway. We set up our kitchen on the picnic table next to it. We're glad we kept our food in the van with us, because we heard "something" snooping around our camp stove in the middle of the night!
There are several good tent sites, and we set up our storage tent between the driveway and a fence.
They've done a lot of tree clearing, and there's a brush pile near the road. A large, white rabbit is living her best life in there! Kinda hilarious to see!
The neighborhood is pretty, and a creek is just around the corner. We saw several other people out walking when we'd walk our dogs. Do carry a good walking stick, at the very least, when walking in an unfamiliar place. A black Lab at one house down the road got away from her owner and meant to do some serious business to our little dogs. Luckily, he caught her before she reached us. I think he was as surprised as we were...
We cruised through the crowded campgrounds in the park and saw only scrappy sites leftover. We were very satisfied with our digs at Rainier Retreat and would absolutely stay here again!

This is a great place to stay. The location is perfect and right outside of the national park. You are around other houses which made me feel safe. The electricity worked great and the spot well kept.

Katie’s place was everything I need in a campsite and she was a friendly communicative host! Close to Rainier a nice walk to the nisqually river, and accurately listed amenities. The site was clean and has all the necessities for camp cooking(table,fire pit, water)
