Experience the unique charm of this campground, where a stunning hike through a captivating forest leads you to a pristine beach, perfect for birdwatching and wildlife viewing. With the right planning and a permit, this destination offers a delightful overnight escape into nature. Begin your adventure at the trailhead located just beyond the ranger station. The trail briefly shares its path with the route to Cape Alava before diverging at a clearly marked junction. Follow the sign to the left for Sand Point. The trail features gentle ups and downs, with much of it constructed on boardwalks. Be cautious as some sections can be slippery, and not all boards are in perfect condition. As you hike, take a moment to appreciate the diverse vegetation, including fascinating trees and blooming wildflowers. The landscape transitions from open areas to a denser overstory, filled with salal and other understory plants. As you approach the beach, the sound of crashing waves will guide you to a split in the trail. Either path will lead you to the shoreline, but taking the left route will provide a more direct access to the campsites and the privy, which is clearly marked.
