Near Shenandoah National Park
Within a 60-minute drive from the Swift Run Gap Entrance Station.
Come escape the hustle and bustle of the city at our South Anna River Retreat! This property is 5 acres, with the bottom half bordering the South Anna River. Features include: the river, a creek that runs though the middle of the land, and wooded privacy to allow you to disconnect for peace and relaxation. Enjoy a day of fishing, kayaking, sitting around the camp fire at night, and observe the surrounding nature! Currently offering primitive style camping. The Riverside Campsite, an off the grid/ primitive campsite, is based in an open grass clearing along the South Anna River with space for up to two 2 person tents, or 1 very large tent. The picnic table and fire pit are also on this site. There is another site (the first grass clearing) which is evident upon first coming down the path into the property. The trailer with kayaks and paddles is located here and will be visible straight away. In total, guests will enjoy 3 acres of wooded privacy that border the river. Please note that given that this more of a remote style camping, guests should should supply their own water. For bathroom amenities, there is a portable camping toilet on site; however, guests should supply their own portable toilet bags (or feel free to bring their own portable toilet). All fecal bathroom waste, trash, and any other waste type must be taken with when leaving and not left on the property. The river and creek heights are both affected by rain fall in the surrounding region. With the right amount of rain, the river is exceeding enjoyable and can be a real blast and likewise with the sound of the creek when it's flowing just right. Although more common in winter and early spring, the water levels can rise to a certain point that make camping more wet and less enjoyable when an over abundance of rain falls. I do monitor levels constantly and at times, reservation adjustments may be necessary. Like all things, safety is a priority. Fishing Tips: The river varies in depth at various parts, from knee height up to shoulder height. I recommend using light weight tackle. Typically, I use 6lb line with a 1/16oz jig head, with a small swirl tail. Species I have caught from the river are blue gill, crappie, and bass.
