This is an educational experience...Come enjoy the serene views of Marsh Duck Way located in The Back Bay/Pungo area of Virginia Beach. Join us on our AG-2 zoned property for a unique hands-on conservation camp. Set beside our private property is a canal that leads into the Back Bay, this educational experience focuses on: - Native wetland plant identification - Heron and shorebird habitat observation - Small-scale habitat improvement projects (such as bird boxes) Optional overnight tent camping for participants (bring your own tent & gear) You can spend the evening fireside & have a conservation discussion. Waking up to the symphony of birds chirping in the morning and a gentle breeze rustling through the native foliage as you lay in the hammock enjoying your morning coffee. You can still catch sight of a deer or fox through the tall trees, spot dancing river otters on the bank or in the creek. The Wildlife Refuge is adjacent to this property and across the bay…In this area of Pungo you can expect to see migratory birds, more than 300 species call this place home…which affords some of the best bird-watching opportunities on the East Coast. While this is especially true during the fall and winter months, when thousands of birds, such as snow and canadian geese, tundra swans and a variety of duck species flock to the Bay to rest and feed before their long journey south, many species can be spotted year-round. Osprey, gannets, gulls and terns can be seen fishing. Wax Myrtles line the canal to the Bay which provides habitats for a variety of nesting songbirds. There is no shortage of waterfowl that can be spotted here. In addition to a large number of avian visitors each year, Back Bay is also home to many other species that crawl, swim, scurry and slither with a variety of snakes and turtles. Few places on the East Coast offer such unique beauty and diversity of wildlife and opportunities to experience all of these wonderful creatures in their natural habitats abound. Head out of our private launch on a paddle boat, paddle board or one of our kayaks into the bay to observe.

    Great spot! Loved the peace and quiet. Hosts were so helpful when we had a van issue and they saved us. Would definitely love to return.

    Had such a relaxing time by the water. Perfect spot if you’re looking to do a little kayaking or paddle boarding! And the hosts are the loveliest. Can’t wait to come back!

    Great site!!! Not totally secluded but very peaceful! Pictures a little deceiving but still beautiful site. A lot of wood to burn but bring something to cut it with. Fishing was great a large variety of fish of decent size in the canal. Not too far from society, meaning a few stores to get supplies with in 20 minutes from site. Had a great time and Danielle had everything ready before we got there! Quite a few different places to pitch a tent! Will definitely recommend this site to friends and family!

    Solid spot! I would highly recommend this location. It was perfect for what my Family and I were looking for enough privacy, space, fishing, relaxing. The two residents/ houses near site are not the host so need to respect their property lines but had no issues. Danielle, the host was very accommodating to our request for early arrival and bringing trailer, two cars and kayaks. Also the solar lights and hammock were a nice touch. The host also offers a trash bin which was much appreciated. 5 stars!! Thank you Danielle!!

    Spot was awesome to get away for a couple nights. Tucked back on someone’s property right on the marsh. Plenty of space for tents and camping equipment. Especially enjoyed fishing for bass right next to the fire and music. Would definitely return.

    The camping area is in the pine trees is nice and the ground is soft. The marsh view is not what I thought it would be. But that is because you are in the middle of the talk reeds. You can see down a creek where we saw ducks and, I think, otters. The sky is actually dark at night which is hard to find even in camping spots.

    The campsite is surrounded by lots of nice tall trees on one side with a nice hammock and string lights which gave a nice ambience at night. The other side is the small body of water. The firepit is a couple of steps away and plenty of firewood piled up near the trees that you can use. We especially like the clear skies during the night because we could see the stars and was able to identify the Orion constellation and planets that were visible. Sadly, we stayed only one night because the forecast called for rain the next day with cold temperatures and it can get muddy. If you like some solitude and privacy, this campsite was so quiet at night and we slept really well. We did not see any wildlife but heard birds. Overall, it was a decent winter camping experience. The host is quick to respond to questions and respected our privacy.

    Great camp site! Scenic views of some bay waterways and a great ambience. Wish we had brought some food to barbecue on the Kudu grill at the site. Would definitely stay here again.

    The campsite was great and amenities were nice. The view was beautiful and we could hear the waves crashing on the beach nearby. It was very private and close the VB. very secluded, couldn't hear any cars at all.
