Primarily serving as a cooling pond for the Coleto Creek Power coal-fired power plant, the reservoir is nourished by four major creeks flowing from a vast 507 square mile drainage basin. With an average depth of eleven feet, the reservoir maintains a consistent water level, making it an ideal spot for various recreational activities. Since its opening to the public in February 1981, Coleto Creek Park has provided year-round opportunities for outdoor recreation. The park encompasses 190 acres, with approximately 40 acres developed to enhance visitor experiences.
