I arrived at the address at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon on the day I was to camp. I followed the hosts instructions on how to get there and drive to the end of the driveway where he would meet me to show me to my campsite. He wasn’t there. I tried calling the number provided but there was no cell service. I knocked on the house door and walked around a bit. No one was there. Nobody answered the door or showed up so I left. $30 down the drain and no place to stay!

There may not have been a bathroom, but if you’re looking for a nice spot, secluded enough to feel like you’re all alone… this is it! the only sounds were the bugs and owls😁 and the sky was PHENOMENAL!

Make sure you contact Richard before you arrive, cell phone reception is sketchy at best. The site was great, flat, and very quiet

We ended up not staying at our site because we were unprepared as the description was inaccurate. This is a primitive camping site, & there aren’t any showers or bathrooms! Which is completely fine, but the description says otherwise.

The place was great. The people we met were nice, cordial and very helpful. The location we camped was private and peaceful. The only downside was that the listing had not been updated and there are no bathroom or shower facilities at this time. The space that had been dedicated to said facilities are no longer an option. Richard stated that plans are in place to install those facilities in another location.

The location was beautiful and a short drive from swimming and hikes. It was very private. It was a bit confusing because we never heard from our host nor had communication with him. There were grounds keepers who were great and helpful. But the site was not as advertised. There are not toilets or showers. This was a disappointment for us as it was listed that this was available. So it was quite expensive for not having amenities. Wood for fires was provided. That was very nice.

Rick was an incredible host and I thoroughly enjoyed my time staying with him. He shared with me the history of this land that has been in his family for multiple generations. With 75 acres of land there are more options for where to camp than you can imagine. Whether you want to pitch a tent in a field, up on the ridge, or hang your hammock in the trees you'll definitely find a great spot.

All I can say is Rick is an amazing host with and amazing piece of property which I was fortunate to experience. You walk onto his amazing property as a stranger and you leave as a friend. Due to his generosity I (and many others) left changed people after the 2017 Eclipse. I can't wait to go back and enjoy his conversation and farm again as it will always be where I want to go when I am in that region.

This was an amazing place. Rick made sure we had everything that we needed. If you're looking for somewhere to get away from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle then this is your place. Heads up: cell phone service is pretty much non existent and you can catch free wifi in town if you need. Check out Vic's Bakery, Porky's Bar and Dale Hollow Dam swimming area!!

We went here to be in the path of totality for the solar eclipse in 2017 and it worked out perfectly. The host, Rick, went above and beyond to make sure every camper was comfortable. The "common area", which is a trailer near the front of the camp, made family life easy as can be with two showers (hot), a stove, a/c, free donuts, 3 coffee makers, a couch and bottled water. Near the barn is a spigot that pumps out city water for drinking and cooking. We were also permitted to make a camp fire anywhere we liked which was very nice. For $25 a night you get much more than you pay for and I would recommend this spot to anyone. You are also going to be close 3 mile drive to Roaring River Park, where there is a sand beach and a roped off area for swimming. Life jackets are provided and the water only goes to about 3 feet deep. My kids loved this and played for hours. I wanted to check out Cummins Falls but a local who had lived there his entire life told me that the 1.5 mile hike to the falls was much too dangerous for children with very steep drop offs. I really wanted to see this attraction but aired on the side of caution and would suggest the same to any other campers with small children. My experience at Pigeon Roost was a 10/10 and the eclipse put it at about 100/10. Thanks Rick! Hope to see you again!

The host Rick and his friends will go above and beyond to see that you are taken care of, whether it's amenities like firewood or coffee or even if you're like me and your vehicle just gives out on you. During the eclipse, my family had a great time and Rick helped make that possible by helping me find solutions. We are very grateful for the kindness he showed us at a time of tremendous inconvenience!
And the property is quiet and secluded and offered our families plenty of space to let the kids run around. The place is within 20 min of 4 great state parks and similar attractions--it's a no brainer.
My family and I will be back.

The owner is an extremely welcoming and nice man and will make every attempt to make your stay a good one. The lower field is wide and flat which means plenty of spaces for larger groups but does not have much shade once the sun is up. The upper field is sloping with some level spots for tents and offers more shade throughout the day.

Very friendly, and accommodating. Opened up a mobile home for a awesome Commons area, air-conditioning, two hot showers, two flushing toilets.
Richard went above and beyond to make sure your experience at his property will last a lifetime.

Southern Hospitality doesn't even begin to describe our experience staying at Pigeon Roost. I thoroughly enjoyed it, as did my many traveling companions. I look forward to staying here again.
