This tent camping site opens just in time to enjoy the spectacular fall leaf colors of the Allegheny National Forest. The campground is only a few hundred feet from the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy River Access Preserve on the Allegheny River — an easy walk. The WPC river access is a favorite for fishing, paddling, and canoe or kayak launching and recovery. The camping area makes a perfect overnight stop for river float trips between Buckaloons and Tionesta, or for a shorter river trip from Tidioute to West Hickory. It’s ideal for small groups. The campground is located on the quiet, dark north end of Trunkeyville — a great spot for stargazing and watching meteor showers. At present, the only amenity is a porta-potty. Please bring your own drinking water. There are no designated campsites; you may camp anywhere in the northwest area of the mowed field or in the wooded area just beyond it. Note that the southeast corner of the field can become soggy after rain. A pair of eagles are resident in Trunkeyville and are often seen perched in the sycamore tree on the island opposite the WPC launch area.This campground is under construction and is being opened early to accommodate fall leaf color in the Allegheny National Forest. Presently the campground is about an 1-1/2 acre grassy field without any designated camping sites. Wooded sites are available at the northwest corner of the lot. Overnight visitors will be limited in number until designated sites are defined. Parking is along Veach Road on a gravel car park area. The campsite is only a few hundred feet from the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy Trunkeyville (Allegheny River) Access Area.
