Kate and Mark were the best hosts, the land was beautiful, and it was just the greatest experience. From the moment we got there, the vibe was like we were visiting family friends. They were gracious and generous with their time, but respectful of our space and privacy. They showed us a perfect swim spot up river, made sure we had everything we needed, and ensured we were having the best experience. We are usually very independent campers, but it was so nice to have an outdoor kitchen, fridge and freezer (stocked with some treats and produce from the garden). My kiddo spent every evening in the garden eating berries.
Wildlife is a part of the experience. Deer, skunks, glimpses of bats at dusk...and ants. There was an anthill near our campsite that caused some disruption one night, but Kate and Mark had a fantastic spot nearby and we were able to transition seamlessly (the ants are going to be dealt with).
I also 100% recommend the armor upgrade - it was my son's favorite part of our whole vacation (because, yes, this camping trip truly felt like a vacation). If you are into history, medieval armor - or even sci-fi - you will have a blast. Mark's enthusiasm and knowledge are infectious.
I can't say enough about how lovely our experience was. Also - perfect distance from the Redwoods, Smith River, and the Oregon Caves. Directions were perfect. Everything was wonderful.
