Justesen Ranches is family owned working cattle, wheat and recreation ranch. Our properties are located in the Columbia River Plateau in North Central Oregon. Enjoy wide open spaces, reservoirs for wildlife watching and clear night skies for star gazing. This is a leave no trace, pack it in, pack it out camping area. The property is located in Tygh Valley and is only a few minutes from the general store and the stunning White River Falls State Park. The Deschutes River whitewater rafting hub of Maupin is just a 10 minute drive away. The lodge two hours from Portland and 30 min from The Dalles.

Secluded private lake campsite in the high desert grasslands of North Central Oregon with mountain views, huge skies and plenty of space to roam. Guests can walk around the lake, explore the rest of the property surrounding it, and bring your own paddle boards or canoes to use on the lake. Fishing on the lake is not allowed without a reservation. If you are interested in fly fishing on one of our private lakes check with us for rates. All fishing is strictly barbless hook catch and release fly fishing only, and we do not allow any fishing at all in the summer months as the warm water temperatures make it unsafe for the fish to be released. We are very strict with these practices in order to maintain a healthy fishery.

White River Lodge
I have stayed with my wife here before, I have also camped on the property a few times. It has become one of my favorite places to get away. It’s very stress free, Amanda is a wonderful host and the place is quite frankly, stunning. I enjoy places of silence and few people, and this has both. And the stars, you just can’t get them any better than here. Fantastic. BF

Badger Creek Campsite
The location was really nice just outside of maupin, however I did have to leave after my first night as I got totally swarmed by yellow jackets! I had to leave as quickly as possible as the wasps attacked me and my dog- my dog was terrified. If you are visiting the site I stayed at during wasp season i definitely recommend having a protected shelter area for food, because these guys mean business. I wish we could have enjoyed the scenery and relaxed more!

What a beautiful property! All the sites were really spread out and we had so much space to ourselves. Overall, it was very quiet and peaceful. We loved spending time at the river and the shared beach area and there were a lot of places to walk and explore. I would recommend arriving in the daytime as this site isn't as well marked as some of the other sites. No picnic table or sign to really label it as a campsite. The bathroom is a bit further from this site as well if that is important to you.

White River Site (Site 1)
Nice spot. We used it as a home base for rafting day trips on the Deschutes. About 20 minutes from Sandy Beach. Felt very private and a short walk across the road to hang by White River. Freshly cleaned porto potty. We would stay again. Host warned us about yellow jackets and they were bad. Brought a trap to add to about 6 others already hanging and had to eat in screened in tent. Pretty typical in field like that in late summer in the area though.

I had my birthday party planned at a different location and when the forecast switched to rain I was trying to find a sunny spot at the last minute. When the one I wanted got rented Amanda offered me a lovely river side spot. We didn’t end up taking the cotton wood spot but we loved the property overall. It was a wonderful spot for my birthday party. Amanda was accommodating , helpful and very responsive. I will definitely be back. The host Amanda was accommodating

Apple Tree Camp (Site 2)
Perfect Camping Experience for three generations of family!! The clear driving directions dropped us into a hidden green paradise with fruit trees and a scenic pond. Welcomed by a large family of deer! Plenty of flat, green grass areas for tents, trailers, and lots of lawn games and the dogs had a fabulous time running free! The concrete pad of what used to be a home was the perfect gathering area for cooking, eating, and "fire" circles! Yellow jackets were pretty crazy during the day but disappeared at dusk, no fault of the land owners as it is just that time of year. Great separation from other sites with complete privacy, no view of other campers and great barriers for sound. Spectacular view all around left you feeling like you were the only people for miles. We had a neighborly visits from lizards, wild turkeys, squirrels, and a family of raccoons! They were all very well behaved but I would suggest storing food in a plastic bin as potato chips seem to be a favorite of theirs. Beautiful site for all ages and we will definitely be back again!

I came here for a weekend camping trip with another family. We had 4 adults and 3 kids, and everyone had a great time! The communication and directions from the host were very helpful. The site was beautiful. We had the whole field to ourselves, and it was a short walk to the river. It was a short drive in to Maupin one day for lunch and a swim in the Deschutes. I was concerned going into it because a lot of reviews mentioned bugs being a problem, but we didn’t have any issues. The yellowjackets were definitely around, but they only seemed interested in our food. No stings and no bites for anyone over the whole weekend.

Great piece of property for camping! We loved that we were not close to other campers and had direct access to the river from our site. The port-a-potty was close by and very clean. The only downside was that there were a lot of bees which the camp owner warned us about before arriving.

Tygh Creek campsite
Having a space to ourselves was just perfect for camping. The site was quiet and secluded, the creek along the back was beautiful. It was wonderful to find a spot to get back to nature, to not have to worry about others being around. The dogs had plenty of space to run around and have fun. It was perfect in every way and would certainly go there again.

Clear Spring Pond (Site 3)
The location, the privacy, the wildlife, the proximity to White River Falls were all as advertised. Unfortunately, the presence of yellowjackets defined every moment of our stay there, despite our best attempts to manage them. We didn’t feel properly informed of what to expect and would have appreciated something more than a offhand reference to bringing a trap with us the day before we arrived.

This was a great spot to camp, quiet and peaceful with lots of room to spread out. The property is very beautiful with the river and basalt mesas. Amanda was very responsive and we had a great experience. It’s only about a 20 minute drive to the Harpham Flats put-in on the Deschutes River, so great place if you’re planning a river trip and don’t want to roll the dice on first come first serve BLM campsites.

Clear Spring Pond (Site 3)
This site rates high on our favorites list. This site has unrivaled privacy, access to wildlife, and peaceful views. We parked our Airstream Basecamp 20X REI edition in this large meadow, bordered by stream-fed ponds, oak/ponderosa slopes, and rocky bluff vistas. We were privileged to witness wildlife including Western Gray Squirrels, Black & White tailed deer, garter snakes, frogs, toads (emitting a low, honking sound), Western Fence Lizards, Scrub Bluejays, robins, wild turkeys, and the star of the show- Peregrine Falcons. We had one Peregrine fly up to take a hunting lookout on our Dragonfly tarp, attacking three different prey targets from that perch. So cool! There’s ample opportunity to stroll around the meadow and up the gravel road to get some steps in. The melodic sound of the stream spilling into the pond is soothing. We will be back to visit this magical place.

What a great spot! We had a good size group with four tents and there was plenty of open space and shade trees for all us. The river is just a quick walk across the road and it was the perfect way to cool down as the days were pretty hot. Amanda was very communicative and responsive. Highly recommended!

Great location and secluded. The site has an old house foundation that was perfect for me as a wheelchair user. Bumped up the edge of the foundation and set our tent on the concrete and the picnic table was on it as well. Saved my shoulders from pushing through the grass. Got to watch deer come down from the upper field, next thing we know one was eating apples off the ground at our site.

Great little spot! Amanda was easy to communicate with and provided me with answers to my questions. We had a group of 7 with 3 kids and it was a fun little weekend getaway that’s still close to Portland. Prepare for mosquitoes and horse flies though.

Private Riverside Campsite
The site was very easy to find with the provided directions, and felt private despite the easy access. It also featured one of the cleanest portable toilets we’d ever seen. The only thing to pay mind to is the host’s warning of mosquitoes during the season - definitely bring something to ward them off or they could make for a miserable trip. We highly recommend Amanda’s campsites and would love to come back in the future!

Lower Twin Lake Campsite
We had a phenomenal time at the lake - it was so beautiful and peaceful, and it was so much fun to paddle around the lake and jump off the dock. There were tons of fish jumping, so many different birds, and deer visited in the morning. We also had a rattlesnake join us which we were able to easily relocate, but he blended in so well with the ground so be really mindful of where you're stepping! For those bringing pets: there are foxtail-like plants growing up near the fence and lots of ticks, so make sure you're giving your animals a really thorough onceover when you get home. The bugs are definitely thriving and we got a lot of bites even with bug spray, but I'd happily pay that price all over again for such a lovely campsite. Might be worth bringing a screened in canopy if you're going to be spending a few days there. All in all, a really great experience and I suspect we'll be back!

Wife’s Birthday Extravaganza!

White River Site (Site 1)
We loved it. We were at White River Site 1, which was close to the river. It was really hot over the weekend with temps approaching the century mark, but with all the shade trees and the river close by we were able to stay relatively cool. The area is beautiful and well maintained and our host Amanda was super responsive and friendly. She communicated quickly and clearly with us and we always knew what to expect. Only suggestion I’d provide is better signage as to where the different sites are located . We had several folks stop at Site 1 either thinking it was where they were supposed to be or asking where their site was located. Not a big deal, as folks were generally respectful and friendly, but something to consider. While it seems the folks who reserved the other sites could probably have communicated better with their guests, some clearer, more visible signage could probably help. Otherwise, no complaints. We had a blast! Thank you Amanda!

Private Riverside Campsite
My husband and I had the best time glamping on Justesen ranch with our dogs. We easily backed up our 23 foot trailer into the site which was pretty flat with plenty of open sky for our solar panels. Our host, Amanda, was proactive and communicative, and our private riverside campsite was perfect! Plenty of shade by the water on a hot summer day, and we appreciated Amanda's advice on bringing bug spray. Watching the moon rise over the ridge was beautiful.

Mulberry campsite
The site was peaceful and a nice place to unplug, but we did run into a few issues. The directions and instructions caused a bit of confusion, as some of the listing photos showed the nearby beach. This made it seem like the beach was part of the reservation — when in fact it’s a public area and not directly connected to the site. There were also quite a few bees by the beach area (on top of the expected mosquitos) — which is important to know for anyone who might be allergic. Additionally, there were drones flying overhead during the afternoon and even at night, which was unexpected and took away from the sense of privacy that we were hoping for. I want to note that the host was very kind and responsive though. She did her best to find solutions for the inconveniences that we encountered, which was very appreciated. Overall, a nice stay!
