Fort Henrietta Park stands out as a unique destination due to its rich historical significance and its prime location along the Umatilla River, offering one of the few public access points to the river within several miles. Situated on Main Street (State Highway 320), this park is named after the Fort Henrietta Militia stockade, which was established across the river in 1855-56. Recognized by the National Park Service as a National Historic Trail Site, Fort Henrietta Park served as a campsite and river crossing for Oregon Trail emigrants. The Lower Crossing, located at the southern end of the park, was a vital crossing point, while Pendleton was known for the Upper Crossing. This area later evolved into a stage and freight road, further enhancing its historical importance. Visitors to the park can explore several historic displays, including a covered wagon museum and an antique fire equipment museum. These museums are equipped with push-button recorders that provide informative insights to guests. Additionally, the park features the first Umatilla County jail and a replica blockhouse.
