Nomadic camping
Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
This is a no-power and no-water site situated in Cedar Island, NC. A separate gate provides access to the site, which includes a fire ring, picnic table, and firewood. It is situated on Cedar Island Bay with a spectacular waterfront view and amazing sunrises. The short path to the site is easily wide enough for a full-size truck. This is the perfect place for a self-contained rig, such as a truck-bed camper or van. Just 3 miles down Hwy 12 is the Island Choice general store and gas station, which has any supplies you will need. Also nearby is the transfer station for trash and the Ocracoke Island Ferry, with a public boat ramp adjacent to it. Another boat ramp is about a mile from the site on Lola Road. Surrounding the property is a National Wildlife Refuge that is open for exploring on its many trails. There is lots of great fishing and hiking nearby, and it is an awesome place to kayak as well. This is a great jumping-off point to reach the Outer Banks by ferry—come down the day before and be first in line for Ocracoke Island. This is a primitive site with the self contained camper van or truck slide in rig in mind. Located just as you enter Cedar Island it will be the first road (Lola) on the right just next to the welcome sign. This is surrounded by National wildlife refuge and you are welcome to walk those trails associated with it. There is a small boat/kayak ramp about a mile down the road and another 3 miles away adjacent to the NC Ferry landing. Also in that area is the trash transfer station as well as the only store/gas station in the area that carries most of what you need. On the property there is a gate you will enter and a trail a short distance to the camp clearing where you will wind a fire ring to be used with caution and a picnic table. continuing down that trail to the waterfront is a spectacular view of the water and one of the best sunrises you'll ever see. It has a rip rap seawall that is jagged so be mindful of it. This lot is basically cut in half, on the other side is my personal camper and space so please remain on that side which is roughly an acre. This is the perfect way to spend a day and evening before hopping on the 0730 ferry to Ocracoke and the Outer Banks. Please keep in mind this is quite far from any real town so plan accordingly but that is what makes it great! While staying there is great fishing from shore nearby along with the mentioned trails. Just down the road there are refuge facilities and a small beach to sit around. If you want to get away, you can't get much farther.
