Barnyard Camping!
The site was as described as far as the kitchen, toilet and shower. With that being said it was not my vibe, I left after being there less than an hour. I did not feel comfortable there as a solo female camper with children.

Overall the host and other campers were nice and friendly. Based on the listing we thought campsites would be further spread out from each other. Prior to booking or staying we were not made aware of the long term campers staying there. We had planned to utilize the kitchen for our breakfast; however, given the number of people staying on site we did not use the kitchen and it would have been easier to plan meals without considering a kitchen. I had reached out to the host a few days before our stay to clarify a few of these questions but never heard back from him. When I called before arriving at the site no one answered the phone. Once we arrived we learned the host was out of the country and had other long term campers assisting him. It would have been nice to know this information in advance and while booking.

This was our very first experience with Hipcamp. Our camp host asked for our ETA and had a lovely campfire going. She helped us pick a site and was available to answer all our questions. Yes, it is aptly named barnyard camping, but the toilets flushed and we could heat coffee, etc. My dog could go for a run. I was traveling with my husband, but I would absolutely feel safe staying here as a woman alone and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

Overall we had a great time. The host was welcoming and friendly and there was power and facilities as described. However it seems as though multiple campers were living there long term and the kitchen/ yard area could use some cleaning up and maintenance. We had a great time but I’m not sure we would be going back.

Loved it out here!!! The owner was easy to work with and very welcoming. It felt like a hostel for campers: you could hangout and chat with the people around or just mind your own business. Great experience

Freddie's place was not as advertised. The barn area was dirty and full of trash. It looked like it had not been cared for in a long time. The host was not there when we arrived. He did communicate by text.
The field behind the barn was lovely and we took our chairs there for the evening. With some work it could be nice again.

Nice place to pull off. My rig is completely off grid but took advantage of the electricity anyway. Not a ton of outlets available if the place gets crowded, but I stayed in early December so I didn't have an issue with that.

Slept in my converted Dodge Grand Caravan out there under the stars in the meadow behind the barn! The rustic shower was hot and just what I needed after a week of off grid camping! VanLifers and RVers delight! Didn't get to meet the host but I plan to return soon!

From start to finish, I loved my experience on Freddie’s peaceful pasture and the views of the barn, the woods and the welcoming visit from sweet & energetic pup, Midnight, made my stay better than I could have hoped. It was safe and Freddie provides superior communication and I really appreciated his timely response as this was a last minute alternative camp spot for me that evening. It turned out to be a place I plan to return to!

Barnyard Camping!
The idea of barnyard camping is great. Unfortunately, the execution of this Hipcamp listing did not meet our expectations. Here is a list of what we liked: we cooked some delicious meals over the campfire, we had an overall good time with our friends and the stars were beautiful at night. Based on the photos in the listing, here is what did not meet our expectations: there was no refrigerator, the stove did not work, the kitchen was very dirty with the utensils, cookware, dishes (and a huge knife) sitting out in the open, a big pile of leaves was left at the entrance to the kitchen, the toilets were dirty (lots of cobwebs in these areas) and there was no toilet paper, the fire pit was full of ash and it was covered with tree branches upon our arrival. I reached out to the owner to let him know of our arrival time but was not greeted (he had been very responsive up until this point). Since we couldn’t get a refund, we stayed and made the best of it. I feel the Hipcamp listing should be revised to reflect the actual conditions of the property that we experienced and that future customers will experience.

Freddie’s Barn yard camping was just what I was looking for. Quiet place with water, a toilet, and outdoor shower. Freddie was great at communicating with me prior to my stay and the night of.

Overall, it was a nice stay - just feel the description is a little loose. Further, for the price I expected more.
The description listed wifi, however, I never got a connection. When I mentioned it to the host, he told me to move closer to the house. However, I wouldn’t have power if I moved closer to the house. So I chose power over wifi.
The description also notes a kitchen - this is a loosely defined kitchen.
Nevertheless, it is a nice spot and allowing dogs off leash was a huge selling point. They are also extremely flexible with check in and check out.

My family enjoyed our stay at RVers Respite. It was the peace and quiet we needed to start off the year. The site had everything we needed. The old barn has lots of potential to be a really cool hang out but looked a bit forgotten. We had the place pretty much to ourselves so that was great too. My son really enjoyed seeing the few antiques on the property & we got to ride the 2 person bike!

Such a beautiful and relaxed atmosphere. Freddie was very accommodating. I loved this place and I would stay here again. This is genuine true southern hospitality. My dogs had so much fun playing in the grass. A+++ rating.

This was a lovely spot on a beautiful piece of property. A unique setting with 3 old barns and 2 private homes. There was water and electricity available. Freddie was easy to communicate with and a very friendly and accommodating host. The location was excellent for all services, visiting Morrow Mountain & Badin lake.

The most relaxing vacation ever! A beautiful, serene setting with nightly campfires to warm the body and renew the soul. We spent most of one day on a blanket in the sun on the huge grassy field. We took a short hike behind the campsite and discovered a lovely trickling brook… an awesome spot to spread a blanket and write. Nearby Morrow Mountain offered us a great workout hike one day. And be sure to check out Ebenezer's store close by. We found some amazing stuff for our camper. We’re definitely planning on coming back!

Freddie was a great host! He was very accommodating and made a point to check in that everything was OK. his dogs were super cute too! The little one stayed with me the whole night. Loved it!

The site was beautiful and close to Morrow State Park - great for hiking and fishing!!! The advertisement states water and electricity - which is correct until a second camper comes and needs electricity too - then you are SOL as both campers trip the breaker. Only words of advice from Freddie was to “unplug something.” Fortunately, we didn’t need the ac at night otherwise we would have left. The ad also mentions a full kitchen-which isn’t a lie, it’s there just doesn’t work as it doesn’t have electricity. We found an awesome private area tucked between two of the barns and set up camp there (barns were gorgeous, but trashy). The site only has one fire pit so prepare to share or bring your own. Would not recommend paying the additional $2 for firewood. We were looking for a peaceful location, 100% why we chose this location. However, Freddie allows target practice on his property, so we got to hear gun fire (close range) during the day and for approximately 30 minutes at night. Terrified our little puppy. At least Freddie notified us of the gun fire prior to them beginning (5 minute warning). Overall a great stay….but ad is slightly misleading.

The description is perfect....quiet and relaxing. Freddie is a super nice guy and made us feel at home. The grounds are so pretty. We wanted to extend our stay so we could explore the property further but our schedules won’t allow. We will definitely be back.
