The shower and toilet worked well, and it was nice to have after a day of hiking. The site was quite buggy, so bring spray!

The field was wide open and very quiet. The most gorgeous views of the mountains. Had to migrate to where the grass was a bit shorter as my first night there was quite a few crawling critters. But second night was just fine! I hope all future campers enjoy!

It suited our needs (close to the Adirondacks, cheap, electricity and toilets & showers - in October, there was no hot water coming from the sink. We didn’t use the showers so I can’t tell for hot water in showers). Ground fairly level and grassy. Perfect for our needs.

Site 1 - Willow Hill Farm Cabins

I booked Site 8 but I honestly don't know which site we stayed at because we had the place to ourselves. It's a nice basic campsite, secluded from road noise, on a working horse farm. We were driving from the Hudson Valley to Montreal & this was a perfect place to stay overnight. My dog & I got our feet wet in the beautiful Ausable River on the way out in the morning. Tara was communicative & friendly but we were left alone (which I appreciate). We're self-contained so I can't rate the bathroom facilities but the firepits were nice! My dog was happily off-leash the whole time, which might not be possible if there are multiple sites in use. Will stay again on future trips.

We could not sleep here

My daughter and I have spent many years tent camping and attending/working in summer camps staying in bunks. We were expecting a rustic but comfortable and clean cabin to spend the night in. Unfortunately we were horrified upon opening the cabin doors to discover a moldy piles of mattresses, one of which had wads of hair on top. There was a filthy and mildewed love seat with cushions half off, old books with layers of dust, and one of the beds had a moldy blanket on it. The cabin reeked of urine and mildew. Luckily the bathroom had running water, though one of the toilets was black inside as if it hadn’t been cleaned in years. One sink had old toothpaste, a dirty sponge, and filth in it. The grass around the cabins was overgrown and covered in ant piles. Ultimately, the cabins were uninhabitable and unhealthy and we had no choice but to (try to) sleep in the car. I don’t know how anyone could expect someone to sleep in that and breathe in mold spores and dust. We understand “roughing it”, but these conditions were just unacceptable. We also weren’t given explicit directions on where to park and which cabin was ours until the next day. I hate to have to write this review but if I had known what the conditions of these cabins were, I never in a million years would have stayed here. The entire place felt abandoned and creepy. It was not a good time and we hardly slept. I would love to be refunded for this night as we were unable to use the facilities and the cabins.

Site 11 - Willow Hill Farm and Mountains Camp

I have to say I was expecting a little more “creature comforts” like hot water and a mowed field since I have a Prius and if I drove into the field next to my site it would have probably gotten lost or partially buried in the tall brush/grass. I’m lucky I am an Eagle Scout because I really had to rough it and if I had been staying more than just an overnight I would have been really aggravated about the hot water “running out” I mean when the Host (Tara) said to me that the hot water had been used all up and we are literally like three weeks into camping season!!! And this was the day before Memorial Day! I’d hate to be a family with little ones and be told oh you and your family can’t have hot showers today because it’s been used up! Wow I’m sorry but as someone who runs a private campground these are things that need to be addressed before people arrive! If you’re not prepared you at least need to give your guests a heads up! Cause if I knew that I would probably have stayed somewhere else I was kinda looking forward to a nice hot shower on the morning of my departure. St least there were flushing toilets but maybe leaving the light to the bathrooms on at night or in the evening when guests are expected might be a good idea next time cause it’s not only scary but also very dangerous I wasn’t even able to get over to the bathrooms until the next day cause I really did not want to take any chances in the dark; even with a flashlight! So just be prepared is all next time thx!

Very enjoyable camping experience

We camped on the edge of the horse-field at Tara's Willow Hill Farm, originally we were assigned Site 8 but instead because of the coming eclipse totality Tara (Host) invited us to stay at the edge of the field near Gate 2 which had a full 360-degree view of the sky and surrounding mountains, perfect for night-time stargazing and of course viewing the eclipse (which was amazing).. The field was right near the road (but not too near), and there was a gate which we could close for additional privacy. Across the road from the field is the Ausable River, which provided a perfect hiking and bird-watching opportunity for our two girls, also from Gate 2 I could hear the gentle sounds of the river all day and all night, perfect! Check-in was flawless, I called Tara when I was a few miles away from reaching the site, and she pointed us to the option to camp along the field and where we could access drinking water (near the center barn) and portable-potty (we used one conveniently near the field). Forgot to mention, but cell phones had 100% coverage and 4-5 bars covering most of the area, with no degradation of call/text/e-mail services. I believe there was enough throughput for viewing videos and other data-heavy activities, but I didn't try it and with the eclipse going on there were more users than usual, I do know that the girls iPads gave them access to all of whatever they were trying to look at most of the day and evening! Perfect for us!

We had a great visit during the eclipse! The site was nice and level and thankfully had dried out soon after the snow melted. We had a good time exploring the river and the brook and got to meet some of the friendly farm dogs. Highly recommend!

The Good: great Location to view 2024 total eclipse. The Bad: The description of amenities were oversold on the Hipcamp website. We were going to stay overnight but decided to shorting our stay and depart the same day. Not inviting!

We enjoyed our stay at Willow Hill Farm. Tara was super friendly, and the site was perfect for our needs. Our only regret was not getting to the site sooner in the day so that we could tour the farm and pet some animals. Would highly recommend!

Beautiful fall week-end

Nice camping experience. We were camped close to the dining hall, on a small meadows, close to a 15 amp power outlet. Quiet place. Hot showers and flush toilet available and working fine. 20 min. from Plattsburgh. Great thank to Tara.

Great Campsite!

Loved this Campsite! Our site was located right by the cabins, although we were lucky enough to be the only ones there. It was quiet, peaceful and very beautiful—especially if you decide to walk around the land. The site is slightly tricky to get to if you have a low car, drive slow and you’ll be ok (A slight steep beginning path for a low car, not impossible even in heavy rain). There’s also a gazebo where you can place your tent, it’s beautiful but it seems to be slowly falling apart cause its age, but it’s perfect to sit down and relax but please be cautious/gentle on it. Bathrooms/Showers are steps away and hot water works well! Along with a good connection with my cell service, so texts will go through. Tara was sweet and quickly responded to all my questions/concerns. Great host! When you’re heading towards the Farm/Campsite, you’ll get a chance to pass by the field where the horses stay at. I got lucky and got the chance to meet them, they were so sweet and loved some scratches! Passed by their dogs which were adorable and the cutest barn cat ever! This is a great campsite if you want something simple and relaxing. Hiking on site and even has an area to set up your camp fire. Stay up late and watch the sky get darker and the hundreds of stars light up!

Great beautiful place. Accommodating and friendly owners, be careful if you don’t have good ground clearance to make it up the dirt road to the camp. I have a small low car and it would have been a struggle but If you have ground clearance you will be good!
