Welcome to the future. ☀️🌱⚡️ This is a living prototype for a more playful, resilient, and intentional way of life. Nestled beneath a towering American sycamore in the heart of Collingswood, New Jersey, the Solarpunk Urban Proto-Homestead is a micro retreat center where nature, technology, and community come together. On the property you'll find solar panels, food gardens, a composter, outdoor gathering spaces, and even a circus rig. Every element is part of an ongoing experiment in using modern tools to support regenerative living. The property is shared with a small, rotating community of long-term residents, travelers, makers, and collaborators. Conversation is welcome, but so is solitude. We respect every guest's preferred level of interaction. Your hosts are Justine and Jon: philosophers, designers, educators, and co-founders of URXR, an extended reality training company. We believe work should feel like play and that technology should support human thriving. Whether you're looking for a peaceful overnight stop, a unique base for exploring South Jersey or Philly, or simply a chance to experience a different version of reality, we hope you'll feel at home here. Come rest, recharge, meet interesting people, and help us build a brighter future.Welcome to The Bunker: our cozy underground studio apartment and the first campsite at the Solarpunk Urban Proto-Homestead. Equal parts artist's studio and apocalypse bunker, this space is designed for travelers who appreciate creativity, simplicity, and a little bit of whimsy. Inside you'll find a comfortable queen-size bed (sleeps 2), convertible futon (sleeps 2), a private bathroom with a clawfoot soaking tub, a compact kitchenette equipped for simple meals, a solo sauna, Wi-Fi, and access to laundry during your stay. A psychedelic nebula mural stretches across one wall, giving the space its own playful personality. Because it's mostly below ground, The Bunker stays naturally cool during the summer and warm through the winter. An additional space heater and fan are provided so you can dial in your perfect temperature year-round. Step outside to enjoy the shared gardens, outdoor gathering spaces, and the rest of the Urban Proto-Homestead. Whether you're stopping through on a road trip, looking for a quirky weekend retreat, or simply curious about the solarpunk lifestyle, The Bunker offers a comfortable home base with a story to tell. Come underground, slow down, and make yourself at home. Please note: This space has low ceilings (approximately 6 feet). Hobbits welcome.
