Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
This property is located on the Madison River at the headwaters of the Missouri River! It has views of surrounding mountain ranges including the Bridgers, Tobacco Roots, & the Spanish Peaks. It is also minutes from downtown Three Forks, MT for dining and shopping. On-site activities include fishing , swimming, hiking, biking, boating/floating, wildlife viewing, bird watching, and stargazing under the big sky. The camping area even has enough space to accommodate grazing horses. With open grassy fields and a large wooded area there is plenty to be explored in this Montana outdoor paradise. Address and Directions: On I-90 exit on 278 you will be on "Frontage Rd" go east to "Old Town Road" than turn east on "Old Town Main Street" LOOK FOR THE YELLOW ARROWS (they say Madison Islands). Once you’re off the freeway and on old town Road come to an intersection which is old town Main Street. Turn right at old town Main Street and very quickly on your left. You’ll see an old rustic building on your left with a fifth wheel parked next to the fence. You enter the property between the old rustic building and the fifth wheel RV to get into the field and you’ll see several reflectors with numbers on them. Easiest entry is off of Main Street. Enter just in front of the Parked RV and make your way into and through the field.

Site 12 - Madison River Retreat
No markers for sites 10-12. Tried to contact the host for clarification with no response. It's an absolutely beautiful spot, all mowed nicely, just needs to have clear markers so people know where to go. No one else was there all weekend, which made for a great private camping spot, but I was unsure the entire time if we were camped in an "okay" spot. Do not follow Google map directions. NOTE: Listing says fishing, swimming, etc, but there is NO river access from this property. Sad to discover that as my kids love to play in the water. The banks were steep or rocky all along the property. Beautiful scenery and wildlife, though.

Spots were almost impossible to find. No markers anywhere unless you were right up upon the tiny markers that indicated campsites. We were not even able to find our spot (no. 12) so we had to camp at a neighboring site that didn’t have anybody in it

Although it took us a few extra minutes, we did find the right place! The directions are clear but it was hard to pinpoint if that REALLY was the field we were supposed to be in. After a bit of hunting around, we saw the yellow arrow pointing to the right spot. Then we saw the markers for each of the sites. We were concerned that the field would be soft after all the rain but it was just fine. We had ring-necked pheasants and deer for company. Lovely quiet spot.

The biggest thing you got to worry about is snoopers trailer park right there and they can justify snooping for safety reason … little black car

I moved up to a site by the river since no one was there. I would recommend staying there if it’s available it was beautiful, the campsite is very straightforward just a field and markings for sights. It close to a little shop and right off the highway, very convenient for a roadtrip!

Could not find the place at all. Directions are horrible. Called the owner and didn't get a call back for hours and we had to find a different place to stay. Feel like I've been scammed and will try to get money back.

Upon first arriving we had some confusion finding where to go because there weren't any signs with clear indicators of where to drive. It is an open field to get in and we didn't want to drive on someone else's property. With that being said, it appeared that the hosts were just getting this place up and running so maybe clearer markers for the spots and a better map will be there soon! This ended up being one of our favorite places to stay. It was quiet, fun to let our 2 year old run around on and we were the only ones there. Some of the pictures on this were a bit confusing as we were trying to find the bank area where you could get down to the water but we're not successful with that search. Maybe that was from somewhere else? There were some great little paths to get out to see the water from up higher and we had a super awesome thunderstorm roll through which made it exciting. Thank you for hosting!

This place was incredibly difficult to find, and for no reason! There was no gate, as stated in the instructions, instead there was a break in a fence with a nice no trespassing sign posted to make you feel really confused and uncomfortable about driving down the road. The only reason I found my spit was because the host answered her phone, if she hadn't been available I would never have even considered driving down that private driveway! A small, hipcamp sites this way sign could easily fix the problem. As for the " tent sites" you literally drive across a field, with no indication you are in the right place until you find a tiny metal sign with number on it. The campsites are completely overgrown, thorny, knee high grass, not a clearing in sight. I was the only person there that night so I was able to pitch my tent under the single tree and have shade, but other than that there was no shade anyway a tent could fit. The pictures are misleading, there is no actual camp sites by the river. And to get to the water and swim, as was offered in the listing I had to scramble down steep rocky cliff. Not kid friendly at all! And the freeway is incredibly loud all night long. 1/10 would not recommend.

This was the best hipcamp I've stayed at from 8+ hipcamps. If you follow the maps in the app its easy to find. Its at the end of the street where the gate is next to the neighbor who's address says "100". It was very private and spacious as we were all alone. There are hunters in the warmer days shooting duck but it didn't bother us for months. The fresh rivers flowing were amazing to drink from for my dogs every day. It was a great place to meditate and pray and some of the best fresh air you could get. Heather was very welcoming and very happy to have us. It was nice to have a good owner and her property manager is also very educated and welcoming. He taught me about the creation of the banks by the army corps of engineers and even offered me his fishing rod. This place is surely blessed. The neighbors were far and I didn't have to worry about anybody hearing us or our generators. They were also very polite and welcoming. The stars were beautiful and my dogs would bark for hours farther down the property and I would be barely able to hear them, they loved it. We saw the moose too! That was the first animal my dog didn't charge, it was huge! My dog also got into a porcupine here so we thank for the experience. There was deer almost daily for months they just moved a but further onto the surrounding properties to stay away from my dogs. We r mmmmmm

Parking in open field was fine. Fairly quiet even though conveniently close to the highway. Directions were unclear. Entrance was next to a 5th wheel, not an RV. Needs a sign at entrance. Tried calling the number provided but nobody picked up.

Great spot, it’s a big open field, lots of room to park multiple rvs. We couldn’t find our site marker so we just picked a spot. My boys loved being right on the river. We fished, kayaked and paddled around. We saw lots of birds, an Osprey caught a fish right in front of us and we saw a mama moose with two babies!! There’s a farmstand right across the street we bought some baked goods and veggies. Loved it!
