Akeley, Minnesota, is a unique destination that proudly claims the title of the Birthplace of Paul Bunyan, featuring a one-of-a-kind statue of the legendary giant who invites visitors to sit in his palm for memorable photos. Nestled along the scenic Lake Country Scenic Byway at the junction of State Highways 34 and 64, Akeley is conveniently located about two hours east of Fargo, ND, two and a half hours west of Duluth, MN, and three and a half hours north of Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN. In 1949, Akeley declared itself the Birthplace of Paul Bunyan, unveiling an oversized wooden baby cradle in a park. While this attraction initially drew visitors, it faced stiff competition from other towns boasting their own Bunyan statues. However, local resident Dean Krotzer, determined to restore Akeley's status, built a magnificent Bunyan statue with the help of his family, ensuring that Akeley remains a must-visit destination for fans of folklore and giant statues alike. Set against the stunning backdrop of Minnesota's Northwoods, Akeley is home to the headwaters of the Crow Wing Chain of Lakes.

    This camp ground is my favorite. The host is also amazing the lake is right behind us ,we bring ,our jet skies I will strongly recommend Akeley campground to be checked out wonderful campground ,i have around 3 years visiting it , I love it
