GROOTs OFF GRID Organic nursery has 3 ponds and natural flowing water ways that were laid out and dug by a Dutchman who understood that rain water will flow downhill to end up into The Fowler Creek at the back of the property were you can see large Salmon, Carps, Turtles, Blue Gills Bull Frogs & much more aquatic life! Either way its Ok if you like your stay, book another day! GROOTs OFF GRID is a new Campground. That is slowly growing larger. Operations were put in place in 1998 to start to make this large area to become available and open for the public to come and enjoy. Only on a limited level of occupation at each season is allowed here, to insure the animal presence is not overly disturbed. By too many visitors at a time. Groots Off Grid Overlook Hotel
We stayed at the Overlook Hotel spot at Groots and had a blast. The location is a bit more secluded than the other sites and offers a lot of space and great views of the surrounding property. The location is a great launching point for trips to wineries, breweries, the Warren Dunes, and Weko beach, or perfect for just lounging and enjoying the scenery. Peter is a solid dude with a lot of knowledge about the area and was very welcoming. Great spot!

Groot's is Great!
Groot's is Great! Stayed 2 nights in site 7 and would recommend anyone who likes rustic camping to check this place out. The property is unique, the sites are large, and spaced far enough away from each other for privacy. Had a chance to wonder the property a bit and there is a huge variety of trees and plants. The woods are cool. Ended up walking through a hidden orchard, then stumbling upon a grove of arborvatie, then finding a pond. The sites are extremely clean, and Peter is a cool guy who clearly loves his property and takes exelent care of it. He shared his knowledge of some local history as well. Thank you Groot for being a great host and sharing your land with the hipcamp community!

Groots Off Grid - Big Sky
Big Sky car camp
We had a wonderful time at Groot's. The sites are very basic and that suits us well as we bring our own gear. We pitched a tarp of the van's roof rack, set chairs by the fire ring, hung out around the picnic table and took it easy. If you like cooking over a fire you'll want to bring a grill or grate. We set up in the rain but Peter provides a good supply of dry firewood (bring cash) within walking distance of the sites so we were warm and cozy in no time. I was charmed as heck by the surrounding woods, dense enough to screen sites from each other, with well-cleared paths for early morning coffee walks and access to the portable toilet (which was clean and well taken care of) . There were deer grazing in the apple trees from sun-up to sunset, and the night sky was dark and full of stars. Just what I was looking for in a weekend trip. Peter's very friendly, informative, and takes pride in his place. For car/ tent camping less than 2hrs from Chicago, the price was excellent. I'll keep Groot's in mind for future trips.

Groots Off Grid - Sunset Sight
Girls Gone Off-Grid
We had a delightful girls weekend at Groot's Off-Grid. In fact, we never left the clean and spacious #6 site. A small generator provided all the modern amenities needed to cook and frolic in the woods. Peter is a joyful dude who provided all the info needed for a good weekend at check-in. One note for those bringing campers: With an extended cab / short bed F150 and a 20-foot camper, a 612-point turn was required to turn the camper around facing the out direction. One huge bonus with Groots - there weren't any helpful men around to interfere with parking the camper - a welcome change from my experience rolling into a traditional campsite as a woman.

Dry Wood and Great Vibes
Groot’s is the best! We had a big group of friends, many camping for the first time, and everyone had a blast. We had some rain on our first night and Peter had a ton of very dry wood for us to buy. Great vibes all around!
