Noise, no privacy, slanted site
This "campsite" was a big disappointment. Apparently there's a lake somewhere near the property, which is one of the reasons we booked it. However, its location isn't obvious, and the owner didn't respond to a request about how to get there.
(1) It's basically in the owner's front yard in clear view of the house about 200 feet away, so there's zero privacy.
(2) River Road is about 200 feet in the other direction, so there's constant traffic noise.
(3) The entire site is slanted badly, which makes sleeping, setting up tables, making fires, etc., difficult.
(4) A portable toilet is provided, but it wasn't emptied out from the last group when we got there. I let the owner know, and she just blamed the previous campers and didn't do anything about it. We chose to use the bathroom at a gas station down the road rather than deal with someone else's excrement.
(5) The "creek" that this site is next to was bone dry in late May when we were there. I doubt it has more than a trickle of water any time of the year. (Don't be fooled by the photos of the Potomac on the campsite page -- that's nearby but off the property.)
(6) The neighbors were playing music until about 11 pm and kept us awake.
None of this was obvious from the listing itself, although we should have read the negative reviews more carefully. I would avoid this property. It might be okay if you have a solid-walled camper to block out the road noise, if it has its own toilet, etc. and can be leveled.
