Welcome to the “Who Cooks for You?” campsite, an ode to our owl friends, who you'll likely hear at night. We’re less than a half mile from the ocean and about a mile from downtown Freeport so you can access the outlets or one of Freeports many festivities. Feeling snacky or need firewood? Bow Street Market is right around the corner. Fancy a coastal view? You can head over to Winslow or Wolfe’s Neck parks, both offering ocean access and seriously swoon-worthy vistas just minutes away. Winslow also has a boat launch for those wanting to kayak. Nestled just below an old granite quarry turned 35-acre nature preserve, this spot is for those who want a mix of forest magic, coastal breezes, and all the woodland creatures. Park your car and walk into the mossy wonderland of Maine woods, where you’ll pitch your tent on a bed of wood chips or moss beneath a thick canopy of trees. This hidden gem offers both adventure and relaxation. For the nature lovers, there are multiple hikes and trails nearby. The most convenient is the one behind your campsite. A short walk down the street and you can jump on the Quarry woods trail https://freeportconservationtrust.org/quarry-woods. From there you can literally walk into town for the marshmallows and chocolate. Look forward to coming back to the site to light a campfire and enjoy the solitude. No matter the season, reconnect with nature and listen…the crows rule by day and the owls by night. Site Orientation: This site offers privacy and peace while being just 200 feet through the woods from our house. We can’t really see or hear the site well from the house but you might hear us from time to time. Our goal is to give you privacy. Toilet is a portable toilet inside outhouse for privacy with WAG-bags for easy disposal.Seasonal Fun Awaits: Fall (Leaf Peeper Season): September and October bring gorgeous foliage and cool evenings with virtually no mosquitoes. It’s prime time for hiking, biking, or paddling. Winter: The woods transform into a bright, frosty wonderland. You might want to bring snowshoes when the snow hits in December. The fire will keep you cozy as you embrace the peace of winter camping. Mud Season (March): Expect the contrast of light and dark, with frozen nights and the first stirrings of spring. It’s a mysterious and invigorating time to experience the forest. Spring: April’s vernal pools come alive with the chorus of peeper frogs, and soon after, the Marsh Marigolds carpet the ground in May. It’s magical. Summer: June through August, the woods are bursting with life. The thick canopy keeps things cool, and ocean breezes push most of the bugs away. Mosquitos at dusk are something you’ll want to be prepared for. Don’t worry if you're caught off guard, we’ve got an emergency bug kit! We also have LL Bean 5 minutes away, open 24/7 with all the supplies. No matter the season, reconnect with nature and listen…the crows rule by day and the owls by night. Come for the adventure, stay for the whimsy.
