A unique Hipcamp location in a forest sanctuary for trees, animals, insects, reptiles and humans. Our property is located west of Sandpoint, ID near the "Happy Fork Gap" at the southern terminus of the Selkirk Crest. Our peaceful property is surrounded by thousands of acres of state and private land. We are located just 8 miles west of downtown. During the heat of summer it's a bit cooler up here thanks to tall trees and fresh mtn breezes. Come enjoy birdwatching or maybe see a moose and her babies cruise by. Fall asleep to the soothing sound of the creek while surrounded by forest. We have woodpeckers, owl, deer, turkey, frogs and more living around the property. Our property has a colorful history. In the 80's a squatters cabin was erected on it until it met its demise by a legendary resident mtn man (RIP). It was once a logging camp long ago but nowadays it is a home for all living things and a 35+ yr old forest with an array of tree species such as cedar, larch, pines, hemlock, spruce and more. Artesian springs bubble up and into a year round creek which flows through. Peace and quiet can be found here as well as good energy from your camp hosts. Come up the mountain and experience our North Idaho off-grid homestead. Check out our Extras page to learn more about some items and experiences we offer. Check out our Hipcamp that we operate at our farm on the Oregon Coast and read reviews at this link https://www.hipcamp.com/en-US/land/oregon-coastal-farm-sanctuary-y0zhqp8d -WINTER CAMPING EXPERIENCE AVAILABLE NOV - APRIL. Do you have a Toyota or similar type of rig that crawls (differential locker and off-road traction tires required)over and through deep snow? If yes then make camping with us your next winter adventure. Check in with your host ahead of time to see if we have dates open for for your stay. Winter at the Happy Gap Hipcamp is magical. Nordic skiing and backcountry touring access right from your camp. Larch View site is best for car/van/truck campers. Guests can also pitch a tent here if they choose. It features a 25' x 20' flat compacted gravel area. It is surrounded by trees and has a nice view of mature western larch (Tamarack), cedar, hemlock, fir and pine trees. You can hear the creek. The site connects to our circular driveway for easy turnaround and access. This campsite is partially shaded and allows for just the right amount of sunshine to filter through the trees so even on a hot summer day this is a nice place to hang out and your vehicle won't go thermonuclear in the heat. Our property has it's own micro-climate and is generally noticeably cooler than it is in town and a nice cool breeze that usually comes down off the mountain each evening and settles into the creek valley. 2 Camp chairs and a small table with drink holders is provided for this site.
